Is it legal to own poultry [chicken] as pets in the city of Sunnyvale, CA? Our neighbors with whom we share fences with has three to four chickens in his backyard, and they make plenty of noise and smell bad! Is it legal in Sunnyvale to even own chicken? Because I know that in some cities it is not allowed unless it is for farming/commercial purposes (and in Sunnyvale it is not allowed for any sales purposes).
Help with food budget for eighteen year old kid? Hi there! My boyfriend just moved out on his own and asked me to come up with a super-awesome budget for him. His rent is $475/mo, he has only $50 to spend on food per week, and he makes $175 per week without extra hours. I know to get the essentials, here's my list so far: Eggs Potatoes Pasta Bread Lunch meat Peanut butter Jelly Rice Ramen/Cup of noodles Tuna Macaroni and Cheese Hot dogs Fruit and veggies Pasta sauce Cereal Oatmeal Meats and poultry (when on sale only) Dairy Popcorn And I also know to cut coupons and sign up for savings cards an things like that. I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips as to anything else he should buy. He's a big guy too (six foot four and 260 lbs) and so he's gonna have an appetite between school and work. I'm just looking for tips on how to scrimp and save and what you would avoid. Also maybe the cheapest places to go to or the cheapest brands. Anything you think would be helpful. Thanks a lot! Hehehe, someone wrote that he was working eight hours a day. No, it's only for about four-five hours in the morning. It's a part-time job at Macy's.It was all that was left =/ Oh and also, he's an amazing cook. He can make pretty much anything from scratch and he's not a picky eater. Also, someone wrote that he wouldn't be able to pay for everything like utilities and stuff. That's no problem, his room for rent comes with everything.

Can the bird flu virus H5N1 virus be destroyed and killed by high temperatures like frying, or roasted? If cooking poultry (chickens, ducks etc) like that can kill the virus, why are governments in countries affected by that disease need to cull millions of chickens and ducks world-wide? They can easily sell them off and advise consumers to cook them thoroughly well before eating them.Inspite of offering free chickens, yet consumers are still unwilling to take the risk to buy them. Is it because, they are afraid unscrupulous traders may sell sick chickens to ignorant vendors whom in return sell them to consumers like us? If we happen to touch and clean up sick chickens with that virus, will we be infected by that virus? If so, then that could be the reason for the poor sale of chickens in countires affected.
Where in the U.S. can I find beef and pork hot dogs? I asked this question yesterday and did not get a real answer. I am not looking for all beef hot dogs. I am looking for hot dogs made with beef and pork with NO added poultry. All the hot dogs around here are either all beef or they contain poultry. I am allergic to poultry; and the all beef hot dogs are expensive and they are never put on sale. Around here the hot dogs with poultry are 59 cents. Paying $2 or more for hot dogs is expensive for me.
What does this zoning ordinance mean? I want to raise 3 hens in my backyard, so I checked the zoning map and it said this (in a list of things I was allowed to do) g. Agriculture, which in this district shall mean the cultivation of the soil principally for the production of food products, but shall not include the following: (1) The feeding or other disposal of community or collected garbage. (2) The raising or dealing in poultry, or any animals for business or commercial purposes, except as incidental to a bona fide general farming operation. Said animals or poultry shall not be housed, stabled, kenneled or yarded closer than one hundred (100) feet from any residence other than that of the owner or user of the property. (3) Buildings or structures, and the sale of agricultural products produced soley on the premises, are considered agricultural if located on a lot containing not less than five (5) acres of land area. What does that mean? Can i have my little chicks or not? They are not for a commercial purpose; just as pets. Thanks in advance! I don't live within 100 feet of another residence, though. Does that mean I can have them?
Do you want to hear a Sunday morning joke? Sun, 23 Oct 2011 The supermarket had a sale on boneless chicken breasts. I intended to stock up. At the store, however, I was disappointed to find only a few skimpy prepackaged portions of the poultry, so I complained to the butcher lady. "Don't worry," she said, "I'll pack some more trays and have them ready for you by the time you finish shopping." Several aisles later, I heard the lady butcher's voice boom over the public-address system: "Will the gentleman who wanted bigger breasts please meet me at the back of the store?"
Tell your Representative Not to Go Backwards on Food Safety? http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/135387058?z00m=9443000 A new amendment, called Section 123, was quietly added to Title I of the 2007 Farm Bill a few weeks ago, and it is a huge step backwards on food safety. If passed, it would hamstring state and local food safety efforts by wiping out critical authority on meat, poultry and biotechnology. The sweeping language of Section 123 would prevent states from prohibiting the sale of USDA-inspected products. This provision could prevent local health inspectors at a supermarket from condemning contaminated meat or spoiled poultry! Since 90% of food inspections are done at the state and local level, the impact could be severe. Section 123 also prohibits states from passing laws that protect animal welfare, such as laws on horse slaughter and sale of horsemeat. Finally, Section 123 prohibits state and local laws on biotechnology -- such as laws to review whether or not to grow genetically-engineered rice in a state. After recent problems with Melamine in pet and livestock feed, Listeria in chicken, and E. coli in spinach and ground beef, we should be strengthening our food safety system, not weakening it! Tell your Representative to stand up for food safety and oppose Section 123 in the Farm Bill.
vegetarian fed chickens? There seem to be more and more vegetarian label chicken feeds and vegetarian eggs for sale. What is the point of vegetarian poultry feeds and eggs? It seems like a ridiculouse concept seeing that chickens are natrually omnivores not vegetarian, but maybe there is a legitimate reason behind this? Thanks :)
Do you ever ask the butcher to custom cut your chicken...? Our supermarket had a sale on boneless chicken breasts, and a woman I know intended to stock up. At the store, however, she was disappointed to find only a few skimpy prepackaged portions of the poultry, so she complained to the butcher. "Don't worry, lady," he said. "I'll pack some more trays and have them ready for you by the time you finish shopping." Several aisles later, my friend heard the butcher's voice boom over the public-address system: "Will the lady who wanted bigger breasts please meet me at the back of the store."
Today i met this black person at my store? He was looking through our watermelon section when i approached him and i asked him if i could help him find something. He complied and asked if we had any special deals adding if i knew what he meant and i pointed him to the meat section where we had a good sale, to which he proceeded going straight toward the poultry and chicken section. He then called up his friend Tyrone and they both exchanged a barrage of ebonics that consisted of exemplifying sentences based on the justification of their lack of money and jokes as to how life will get better for them. Tyrone grabbed the watermelon the first guy picked out and went to checkout. The first guy had an exchange with the black cashier lady who had excess fat layers in her butt cheeks and was flirting back about how her bottom layers would regularly attract guys just like him and as if he wasn't special enough for her to which the first guy replied that he was good enough for her by exemplifying manly gestures and flashing his chains at her to show superficial wealth amounts. The cashier lady liked it and said that she might see him later again, winking, to which he smiled at commenting on the size of her buttocks once more. Which store do you think this was?
what are the channels of distribution of perdue farms inc.? 1.Perdue Farms, Inc., has been a privately held family owned company since 1920. Over the years Perdue has become vertically integrated in order to be more competitive and maintain financial stability. Perdue’s objective is to be the leader in broiler and related poultry products in the industry. They strive to maintain quality and constantly improve efficiency and service, both today and in the future. Perdue Farms Inc. has a mission to provide the highest quality poultry and poultry related products to retail and food service customers. They want to be the recognized industry leader in quality and service, providing more than expected from their customers, associates, and owners. They will accomplish this by maintaining a tradition of pride in their products, growth through innovation, integrity in the management of their business, and commitment to Team Management and the Quality improvement process. Perdue’s overall mission is strong but a strategy for long term growth and market development needs to be reviewed and evaluated. 2.Perdue Farms Inc. has numerous external opportunities and threats. The external opportunities that effect Perdue are as follows; •To broadly diversify and have greater market share, domestically and internationally •To increase marketing of healthy image products that envelops a strong niche market. •To ship via plane, to maintain fresh not frozen broilers and increase market share and penetration. •Develop new markets in the Upper Mid-west to increase market share. •Increase sales of food service chicken and turkey from 20% of overall sales to 30% due to a strong 12% growth rate. •To expand the international grain and oilseed market •With an increase push on health in 1994, chicken sales are up over red meat sales. •Average annual consumption of chicken is up to 80lbs/person/year, an all time high. The external threats are as follows: •Most of the competition sells frozen products for less money. •Perdue’s cost to raise chickens is above the national average. •Growth rate in chicken sales is only 5% due to lack of frozen line. •Over capacity of chickens has reduced wholesale prices, which reduces profit margins. •Competition is strong in broiler industry with 53 competitors. •Untapped markets in the Upper Mid- west need to be explored. 1.The Perdue Farms, Co. has internal strengths and weaknesses that need to be addressed and evaluated; The strengths are as follows; •Perdue is vertically integrated which means that they produce the chickens, they breed, hatch the eggs, they select the growers, build Perdue chicken houses, formulate and manufacture their feed, oversee care and feeding, operate their own processing plants, distribute via truck and marketing. They now also sell what used to be waste, such as the chicken feet that is sold to the Orient as a delicacy. •Privately held firm •Technologically advanced, ex.,20% more breast meat than the competition •Birds are fed organically and not feed additives. •Sell both raw and pre-cooked chickens and turkeys. •Good compensation package to the workers. •Non-union company. •MIS efficient and essential to operating the business. •Good variety from fresh oven stuffer roasters, cooked prepared foods, cutlets, tenders, Fit n easy and much more. •Good TQM with mission and vision •Excellent R&D for better meat to bone ratios. •Keep overhead low, quality up •Great diverse product line that has changed with consumer changes. •Horizontal diversification when they bought Showell Farms, which made them the third largest producer in the broiler industry. •Great social responsibility, code of ethics •Environmentally concerned about waste and prevention •Strong effective marketing The weaknesses in the Perdue Farm, Inc. case are as follows; •They only sell fresh not frozen chickens •Deliveries are only made by truck so the radius to overnight chickens is limited. •Lack of long-term planning for future changes 4) I would suggest a strategy that Perdue would focus on maintaining their quality and efficiency along with plans for extensive market development. I would like to see them expand into the Upper mid-west before other markets gain strong holds and market share. If Perdue plans on maintaining their place in the market they need to expand and continue to diversify their products to attract niche markets and stay ahead of the competition. According to Porter’s generic strategies, he points out that in order to gain the competitive advantage companies need to draw from three bases: cost leadership, differentiation, and focus. In my study of Perdue, I feel that they are a differentiation and focus orientated company. First, I see Perdue as a leader in quality and efficiency but not a cost leader. Cost leadership implies that you strive to be the low-cost producer in your particular industry. This is to the contrary for Perdue; they have marketed in a way to make the consumer pay a little more for a better product. In fact, this did not happen by accident. Perdue did not want to be known as the cheapest but to be the best quality for the consumer, at a fair price. What Perdue does take from cost leadership is that they are highly efficient, low overhead, their intolerance to waste, broad span of control, rewards linked to efficiency and cost cutting measures and open lines of communication between workers and upper management. Perdue’s successful strategy of horizontal integration to gain competitive advantage was to purchase Showell Farms which made Perdue the third largest broiler company in the United States. I see Perdue as being highly successful with differentiation, which implies that they produce products, and services that are considered unique, industry wide and directed at consumers who are relatively price-in-sensitive. Perdue has ongoing product development, which states that they seek to increase sales by improving, or modifying present products or services. Perdue has been an industry leader with constant attention paid to consumer wants and needs. They watch trends such as fitness and weight consciousness, by introducing the Fit n Easy line that markets skinless and boneless chicken parts with nutritional information and recipes. Perdue also followed the trend of the working family and began to market prepared foods, which has done extremely well. Prepared foods such as pre-cooked chickens, turkeys, parts, nuggets, and the like sell easily to working families. Finally, I see Perdue’s strongest strategy according to Porter is focus. Perdue has wonderful R&D that constantly follows market trends and changes that will be beneficial to their growth. Perdue has never forgotten where they came from and this is what makes them strong. Focus allows them to change with the times and not become over diversified where they overlook their cash cows and forget to nurture their stars. Perdue knows that quality and efficiency are at the heart of their operation and do not stray from that. Their innovation and integrity to be the leader has brought them customer loyalty and appreciation for quality where price is not the number one factor. Perdue’s ability to focus on strong team management has allowed them to penetrate and develop new markets with ease. Perdue has a high penetration of advertising on TV and print along with opening up new territories to further expand their market share. Their vision has been a good guide and has led them to a very successful value chain. Perdue’s attention to detail in every aspect of the business has been proven successful and the financial status of the company reflects it. Today, Perdue, is further expanding with new acquisitions and product lines. Their innovative thinking and drive to be the leader shows in all they do. In 1997 they started marketing their Café Perdue line and have seen slow, with steady success. Perdue’s prepared foods are selling incredibly well with the American family on the run. As of September 1998, Perdue made a new acquisition, toward horizontal integration, with GOL-PAK, a competitor in the foodservice and prepared foods business. The new relationship will further enhance Perdue’s prepared food and foodservice business. GOL-PAK specialized in the development and production of products primarily for the foodservice industry with a list including the top 100 chain restaurants. Perdue sees this as a significant purchase to enhance their reputation and make them strong contenders in the prepared food and foodservice industry. CEO, Jim Perdue, feels that they are well positioned in the market place and continued growth along with R&D will help them to maintain quality and efficiency, along with strong market penetration and market share.

Profread this story of mine? Rags to Riches There was once a poor man named Carlo. He sells fishes in the market. He earns a lot from selling those fishes. But one day, news spread that there was red tide. Nobody bought his fishes for people were afraid to catch diseases. Carlo quit selling fishes. In just a few month’s time, all his earnings went to their expenses like bills, food, and transportation. “What could I sell now in the market? Nothing was left from what I earned in selling fishes” Carlo asked his brother. “Poultry, vegetables, fruits, pork, cattle” the brother suggested. “I’ll go with selling fruits and vegetables” Carlo said. He began to sell fruits and vegetables but a thunderstorm hit and many crops were damaged. The number of crops dwindled. All the people selling fruits and vegetables in the market were receiving very low earnings per day and soon they decided to quit selling farm crops. “I quit selling in the market” Carlo said. “How will you earn money now?” his brother asked. “Let’s establish a garage sale” Carlo said. They sold their old shirts, shoes, books, appliances, etc. Carlo had very few customers and many of his customers just wanted to see what he sells. “I’m so unlucky in selling things, when will I stop experiencing poverty?” Carlo said. “Don’t give up, someday I’m sure we’ll be rich” the brother said. Carlo followed his advice and continued his garage sale even when he has only less than ten customers every day. The day came that nobody bought from the garage sale and Carlo closed the garage sale.“You told me we’ll be rich someday, but what I’ve earned isn’t enough for us” Carlo said. “You should be thankful, some people don’t have a single coin in their pockets” the brother said. They had financial problems because they don’t have sufficient money that will provide them with all their needs. A week later, Carlo wasn’t able to pay their electric bill so their electricity was disconnected, also he doesn’t have enough food for him. “Being poor is a curse, there’s nothing to eat and there’s no electricity” Carlo said. “Don’t complain, we have a candle and good neighbors who are willing to share their food to us” the brother said.”I wouldn’t enjoy life for as long as I’m penniless” Carlo said. A few days later, a destructive tornado destroyed many houses in Carlo’s place. Many families were left homeless. “What’s worse to come after a tornado damaged our house and all our possessions?” Carlo asked. “Don’t say that, just be positive and everything will be alright” the brother said. “We’re moving to your uncle and grandparents’ house” their mother called out to them. They packed up all of their properties and lived with their uncle and grandparents. A month later, their beloved grandmother became ill and needed to be taken to the hospital. Their uncle and grandpa needed more money to cure their grandma so he asked from Carlo’s family. Carlo and his family were forced to give some money cause they loved grandma very much. “I’m losing hope” Carlo said. “We can work together and earn money” his mother said. Carlo worked as a waiter in a five star restaurant, while his mother worked as a maid. Carlo was earning a lot as a waiter when a group of men hostaged the fancy restaurant. Half of what he earned was taken from him and the hostage takers took money from the employees and customers. The mother unfortunately, worked for a cruel family. The family makes her work a lot even when she’s tired and never pays her for her services. She managed to escape from them and goes home. “I’m so angry at the hostage takers, they took what I worked hard for” Carlo said. “It’s unfair, why was I so hapless and worked for an evil family when there are many kind-hearted families I could work for and pay me a large amount of money?” the mother said. “Stop agonizing about your mishaps in trying to earn money, we can join a talent contest and win” the brother said while handling them a flyer. “This could be our most awaited moment, we could win millions of cash if we win first place in this talent contest” Carlo said. “We’re gifted singers and dancers so it’s our time to shine and show the world our skills” the brother said. They paired up and joined the contest and they rehearsed very well for their song and dance number. They won first place in the contest for they got the most votes among all the contestants who joined. They received a check for millions of cash and they were rich. “I can’t believe it, we’re finally rich after all those failed attempts” Carlo said. “You just need to believe in fortune and soon you’ll be rich” the brother said. They bought a mansion and they became wealthy.
How do you solve this? Um so i've got 3 maths questions, which i dont know how to do. But please dont just post the answer without any explaination. The 1st one, Jim had 8 watches costing $800 each in his shop (which means all cost $6400), he sold 2 at a loss of 5% (?). What was the selling price for each of the two watches? If he sold the rest at 20% profit each, whats the total profit made from the sale of all the watches? Next, Hayden had $128 & Adrian had $36 (both had $164). After their dad gave each of them an equal amount, Hayden had twice as much as Adrian. How much did their dad give to each of them? I dont know if this is trail and error question but anyway. A duck cost $12 and a chicken at $9. On day 1, Sam sold 2/3 of his poultry and collected $4080. 3/5 of the poultry sold were chickens. How many ducks sold on day 1? And how many of the poultry were left after day 1? If you know how to do just one or two that will be appreciated too. Thanks =)

At the Polish Agricultural university, the Professor was talking about increasing milk production of the cows, when a girl in the class asked, "Why do cows always seem depressed when being milked?" The Professor answered, "Well my girl, if every morning at dawn they woke you up, rubbed your bxobs for two hours and didn't scrxw you afterwards, wouldn't you look depressed, too?"

Is there a loophole in this Zoning Ordinance? I want to get 3 hens in my backyard. Here's what the Zoning Map says for where I live (in a list of what's allowed): g. (3) Buildings or structures, and the sale of agricultural products produced soley on the premises, are considered agricultural if located on a lot containing not less than five (5) acres of land area From what I can tell, you can't raise chickens for commercial purposes. But mine would be pets, and I wouldn't sell them or their eggs. Can I get away with that?
A question (or two) about Zoning Ordinances? I want to get chickens, so I looked up our zoning info. This is what the Zoning guide says for the "Estate" Zone, where I live (in a list of allowed activities): g. The general interpretation (by my friends) on this was that I could have chickens, but not for commercial purposes. However, in the guidelines for the "Residential" zone (I see no difference between my zone and this one, I live in a normal neighborhood, not a subdivision) they say right in there that chickens are allowed. What's your opinion on all this? Should I call for clarification? The only problem is, I'm worried that I'll get a no, and they'll close the loophole. Should I go ahead with the chickens? (I know my neighbors wouldn't complain)

What do you think of the first page or two of my book? Hi, I am writing a book. In fact, I have wrote over 70 thousand word of it so far in the space of a month. I have been spending about two hours an evening on it. This is a bit quick for my liking. Its very autobiographical, and written in an almost blog style. It just reads like my facebook messages read, and I somehow don't think that it will be enough. I have a bit of a weird sense of humour, about half my jokes are not "got" by others, so I've got a feeling that writing humour may not be the best option. Nobody knows that i have been writing, so feedback will be greatly appreciated. I can take criticism, and would like people to be as harsh as they can :) It follows the main characters efforts to become a better person. Here's the first page... I think I may have a henpecked husband. That’s right, I peck at him. Not on the lips, in a kissy kissy way, but PECK PECK PECK at his Willy. Not in a pornographic way either, my oh my, that stopped quite a while ago. In a “bite your balls off and make you do my bidding” sort of way. I am wondering what I have become. A chicken most probably. I will have to convert my family to vegetarianism, so that if they get fed up with me completely, they will not eat me for Sunday lunch. I have always wanted to go veggie, but the idea of giving up meat puts me off a bit. Although, maybe I could pretend to be a vegetarian, and scoff meat on the sly. That could stop me from eating so much cake in secret. I really don’t want to pick at my husband like a turkey carcass, but I do. And I really want to change. I want us to be the sort of couple who run in slow motion towards each other, glowing with love and happiness. The sort of couple who do not indulge in selfish pursuits while the kids ar awake, who go to the theatre, and have a set day every week for swimming. The sort of couple who strip naked every night and have sex on the dining table. The last time that happened was about three years ago when I was about two stone lighter. And I actually wanted sex. We only had one child then. Now we have two. Ollie’s on his way to being 7 now and Rosie is 2 and a half. They are both slightly metal but very happy. On the bus yesterday on the way back from some sale shopping Rosie was stroking a ladies hip from her buggy whilst laughing her head off, and Ollie was on the other side of her grinning and staring at her for at least 10 minutes. Ollie has autism, and is about the same age in his mind as Rosie. They are both extremely lovable and tickleable, and I don’t want my sour lemon/Nazi/poultry style of wife-ing to contaminate their innocent little brains. So, I am making a solemn vow to stop being a chicken woman to my husband, and to try and be the best I can be. I am going to treat him like I treat my friends (gasp).
6.04A The Chrysanthemums? 6.04A The Chrysanthemums Warning: There is a checkbox at the bottom of the exam form that you MUST check prior to submitting this exam. Failure to do so may cause your work to be lost. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Question 1 (Multiple Choice Worth 5 points) Elisa's greatest conflict is with herself, as she does not know how to show her strength and power. herself, as she does not know how to deal with Henry's dominance over her. other people, as she cannot take up for herself, and easily gets conned into doing things. herself, as she cannot wait to move from the ranch and into town. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Question 2 (Multiple Choice Worth 5 points) What is Elisa's first impression of the stranger on the wagon? She thinks he is there to swindle her out of some money. She thinks he will try to steal some of their cattle or vegetables. She views him as a way out of the life she wants to escape. She sees he is a big man who has been aged by the traveling life he leads rather than his actual age. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Question 3 (Multiple Choice Worth 5 points) Use the following quote from the story to answer this question: "Far ahead on the road Elisa saw a dark speck. She knew. She tried not to look as they passed it, but her eyes would not obey." Why does Elisa "try not to look" at what she sees in the road? She knows the stranger has thrown her flowers down, and was only trying to get work from her. She knows the stranger could not fix her pot, so he threw it down the road. She knows it is a bird that has died, and cannot bring herself to look at it. She knows Henry will be angry with her if she brings attention to it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Question 4 (Multiple Choice Worth 5 points) How does Steinbeck show the simple lifestyles led in this story? Winter is ending at the ranch and there is much work for Elisa and Henry to complete. Elisa and Henry only go out to eat when there is a big sale on the farm to celebrate. At first Elisa will not give the stranger any work to do because she is afraid they cannot afford the extra expense. Elisa grows all of their fruits and vegetables while Henry raises their meat and poultry. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Question 5 (Multiple Choice Worth 5 points) How does Elisa most closely match the concept of Pigasus? She admits at times she thinks she can actually fly. She considers her special gift of gardening to be her only way to showcase all her talent. She has great strength and power inside, but cannot seem to find a way to let it show. She desires to have talents and gifts she knows she can never have. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Question 6 (Multiple Choice Worth 5 points) Use the following quote from the story to answer this question: "Far ahead on the road Elisa saw a dark speck. She knew. She tried not to look as they passed it, but her eyes would not obey." What does Elisa think the speck in the road is? The pot she gave the stranger to fix for her. The gloves she let the stranger borrow. The chrysanthemums she let the stranger take to give a neighbor up the road. The hat she let the stranger have, to keep the sun off his neck as he traveled. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Question 7 (Multiple Choice Worth 5 points) Elisa agrees to let the stranger do some work for her because she feels sorry for him. he threatens her and she is afraid. she feels they have made a connection with each other. she wants him to leave quickly so Henry will not get jealous when he sees her speaking to a stanger. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Question 8 (Multiple Choice Worth 5 points) What message about society is Steinbeck sending through this story? Neighbors should share more with one another. Husbands should encourage their wives. Strangers cannot be trusted. Strength and power can be present in some of the most unexpected people. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Question 9 (Multiple Choice Worth 5 points) All of the following phrases are used to descibe Elisa in the beginning of the story except: "Her face was lean and strong and her eyes were clear as water." "She wore heavy leather gloves to protect her hands while she worked." "The chrysanthemum stems seemed too small and easy for her energy." "At the back of the house she dug in the can pile and found two old and battered aluminum saucepans." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Question 10 (Multiple Choice Worth 5 points) How does her conversation with the stranger become meaningful for Elisa? They talk about their dogs, and she can see loves his dog as much as she loves hers. She can see he is passionate about his being in the outdoors, just as she is passionate about her gardening. She realizes she can fix the same things as he can, and views herself as his equal. She feels good because she is able to provide some work for him, which will mean he can have supper that night.
Is this the 'grim truth' of American life? http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article25166.htm "Because your lifestyle is almost designed to make you sick. Let’s start with your diet: Much of the beef you eat has been exposed to fecal matter in processing. Your chicken is contaminated with salmonella. Your stock animals and poultry are pumped full of growth hormones and antibiotics. In most other countries, the government would act to protect consumers from this sort of thing; in the United States, the government is bought off by industry to prevent any effective regulations or inspections. In a few years, the majority of all the produce for sale in the United States will be from genetically modified crops, thanks to the cozy relationship between Monsanto Corporation and the United States government. Worse still, due to the vast quantities of high-fructose corn syrup Americans consume, fully one-third of children born in the United States today will be diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes at some point in their lives. Of course, it’s not just the food that’s killing you, it’s the drugs. If you show any sign of life when you’re young, they’ll put you on Ritalin. Then, when you get old enough to take a good look around, you’ll get depressed, so they’ll give you Prozac. If you’re a man, this will render you chemically impotent, so you’ll need Viagra to get it up. Meanwhile, your steady diet of trans-fat-laden food is guaranteed to give you high cholesterol, so you’ll get a prescription for Lipitor, (then loose your memory as a side-effect). Finally, at the end of the day, you’ll lay awake at night worrying about losing your health plan, so you’ll need Lunesta to go to sleep. With a diet guaranteed to make you sick and a health system designed to make sure you stay that way, what you really need is a long vacation somewhere. Unfortunately, you probably can’t take one. I’ll let you in on little secret: if you go to the beaches of Thailand, the mountains of Nepal, or the coral reefs of Australia, you’ll probably be the only American in sight. And you’ll be surrounded crowds of happy Germans, French, Italians, Israelis, Scandinavians and wealthy Asians. Why? Because they’re paid well enough to afford to visit these places AND they can take vacations long enough to do so. Even if you could scrape together enough money to go to one of these incredible places, by the time you recovered from your jetlag, it would time to get on a plane and rush back to your job." This American writer has hit the nail on the head....his article is full of precise observations of American culture. Sometimes the truth hurts.
Lol How Embarrassing!!! [Star If U Like Plz ]? The supermarket had a sale on boneless chicken breasts. I intended to stock up. At the store, however, I was disappointedto find only a few skimpy prepackaged portions of the poultry, so I complained to the butcher lady. "Don't worry," she said, "I'll pack some more trays and have them ready for you by the time you finish shopping." Several aisles later, I heard the lady butcher's voice boom over the public-address system: "Will the gentleman who wanted bigger breasts please meet me at the back of the store." Can anyone translate this? can anyone translate this into filipino? Elasticity of demand is illustrated in Figure 1. Note that a change in price results in a large change in quantity demanded. An example of products with an elastic demand is consumer durables. These are items that are purchased infrequently, like a washing machine or an automobile, and can be postponed if price rises. For example, automobile rebates have been very successful in increasing automobile sales by reducing price. Close substitutes for a product affect the elasticity of demand. It another product can easily be substituted for your product, consumers will quickly switch to the other product if the price of your product rises or the price of the other product declines. For example, beef, pork and poultry are all meat products. The declining price of poultry in recent years has caused the consumption of poultry to increase, at the expense of beef and pork. So products with close substitutes tend to have elastic demand. Inelastic demand is shown in Figure 2. Note that a change in price results in only a small change in quantity demanded. In other words, the quantity demanded is not very responsive to changes in price. Examples of this are necessities like food and fuel. Consumers will not reduce their food purchases if food prices rise, although there may be shifts in the types of food they purchase. Also, consumers will not greatly change their driving behavior if gasoline prices rise. This does not mean that the demand for an individual producer is inelastic. For example, a rise in the price of gasoline at all stations may not reduce gasoline sales significantly. However, a rise of an individual station’s price will significantly affect that station’s sales.
Does television destroy the food Industry as Chicken and Eggs are good for ones health as the truth is fact? Does television cost industry billions in sales by talking about foods they really do not know anything about .The chicken industry and egg industry is a clean as the space station as i had a chance to look into this industry .It is what feeds industry that feeds the animals they breed for table consumption .People like PACE eggs, biada, cordina ,redlea and inghams are all poultry producers and there secret is that they all have different combinations in chicken feed that gives a different taste to poultry and Eggs. This way the customers can taste test the difference in quality of australian poultry producers.I prefer to boil my cordina chicken and boil Pace eggs then taste test many poultry that the country has to offer.Allways buy one peice of each to taste test then you will aquire a healthy taste for the right kind of poultry that suites you.Food is politcal as it employs a nation .David.

Do I have the credentials for vet school? If not what else can I do? Courses I took: Math: Algebra, geometry, algebra II and trig, currently taking pre-calc. Science: Currently in 4th year of Honors agriculture, living environment (basically NY speak for basic bio), chemistry, marine science. Language: 8 years school Spanish classes, little Chinese (I grew up in a half Chinese family), currently TRYING to learn basic American Sign Language. AP Classes: Currently taking AP English and AP Government, next term will be taking AP Economics. Before AP English I was in Honors English for 3 years. Grades: My grades are good but not fantastic. My average junior year was an 88. My grades in math are not very good, mostly 70-75's. I usually do well in science, but chemistry I got 75-80's. English is one of my best subjects, I usually get 90's. Agriculture, I usually get 90's. Really the only thing that brings my grades down is math, and I know math and science are the most important. I have a lot of other stuff besides my grades, I have a ton of experience with animals and a lot of leadership, community service, etc. Community Service: I volunteered at the local library for 5 years, teaching kids to read. Volunteered at in environmental center for 4 years, doing basic animal care and participating in animal science classes for children. I was a volunteer at a therapeutic riding center where I worked with horses as well as disabled children. Through the FFA, I've organized and participated in canned food drives, military donation drives, and charity bake sales, as well as educational elementary school visits where we taught kids about animals. Leadership: National FFA Organization: Member since freshman year. Sophomore year elected Greenhand President. Junior year elected President. Currently serving as Student Advisor. Equine Team: Member since Freshman year, currently Co-Captain. Fundraising Committee: Co-Chair Newsletter Committee: Co-Chair, last year and currently (Committees and teams are through FFA) Extracurriculars: Equine team 3 years Currently on Small Animal Care team, will compete at State level in May Agricultural Communications sophomore year Senior Quiz Bowl junior year Honors/Awards: Greenhand Degree Star Greenhand Award- Awarded to freshman Greenhand Degree recipient who showed the most improvement and involvement in FFA Chapter Degree- highest award at Chapter level Ag. Communications: 3rd placed team at State level, ranked Top 5 in State individual category Senior Quiz Bowl: Gold Ranked team at State level Prepared Public Speaking: 1st place at District level Work Experience: Belmont Stakes Day (1-day job at Belmont Racetrack) College Animal Research Facility- basic animal care in lab used by biology professors and pre-med students I also have a job interview TOMORROW at a VET OFFICE. It's through a youth employment program at school, so it's pretty much guaranteed. Other experience: I grew up with 8 cats (not at the same time!! lol) One had hyperthyroid and kidney problems. I helped give her medicine (through syringe and pills) and for a while helped administer a saline solution before my stepmother took over the job. Unfortunately she died recently. My other cat currently has diabetes, so I know a lot about diabetes in animals and the problems that come with it. I've also grown up with frogs and fish. At school I work closely with rodents, poultry, and exotic birds. We also have a barn there with alpacas, goats, and mini horses. Are these enough credentials for vet school? Or are my grades just not good enough and it's all been a waste? I plan on going to a college with a pre-veterinary program and majoring in animal science, veterinary science, or veterinary technology. If I don't make it into vet school, what else can I do with these degrees? Please, I need whatever answers I can get, about getting into vet school. I've been so stressed out about this whole thing, to the point where I literally cannot breathe because of the anxiety.
Why did MEXICO stop buying American Beef? http://money.cnn.com/2008/12/26/news/international/mexico_meat.reut/index.htm?postversion=2008122616 Mexico suspends purchase of U.S. meat Mexico temporarily stops meat purchase from 30 U.S. meat plants, citing sanitation issues. feed://rss.cnn.com/rss/money_topstories.rss December 26, 2008: 4:39 PM ET CHICAGO, (Reuters) -- Mexico has suspended purchases from 30 U.S. meat plants, some of which are the largest in the country, due to sanitary issues, but U.S. analysts argue Mexico is retaliating for a U.S. meat-labeling law that allegedly could hurt Mexican meat sales here. Mexico denied the retaliation charge and said purchases from the affected plants could resume as early as Monday. USDA on Friday listed the affected plants on its Web site, but the suspensions became effective on Wednesday. The listed plants produce beef, lamb, pork and poultry and can be found at http://www.fsis.usda.gov/OFO/export/lmexico.htm. Mexico is a leading buyer of U.S. meat, and news of the suspensions sent cattle and hog futures sharply lower on Friday at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Many of the banned plants are owned by the largest U.S. meat companies, including Cargill Inc, Tyson Foods Inc (TSN, Fortune 500), JBS, Seaboard (SEB) and Smithfield Foods. (SFD, Fortune 500) "If everything goes well, the plants could be re-listed next Monday," Mexico's agriculture ministry said Friday. The ministry said the affected plants fell short on standards like packaging, labeling and some transport conditions. CANADA, MEXICO OPPOSED LAW Under the labeling law, commonly called Country-of-Origin Labeling or COOL, meat packages in U.S. supermarkets must carry labels stating the countries where the meat animals were raised. U.S. consumer and farm groups say the labeling rules will distinguish U.S.-grown food from imports on the grocery shelf and fulfill the shopper's right to know about products. Canadian and Mexican officials have opposed the law arguing that it will have U.S. meat plants and consumers discriminating against non-U.S. animals and meat. Both countries ship livestock into the United States. Earlier this year, Mexico had warned many U.S. meat plants of alleged "point of entry violations," and Friday's suspensions may have been related to that, Jim Herlihy, spokesman for the U.S. Meat Export Federation, said early on Friday. Point of entry violations could be a number of things including incorrect paperwork or labeling issues, he said. ANALYSTS NOT CONVINCED While Mexico denied retaliating for COOL, U.S. analysts were not convinced. "It appears they are using this to send a signal to our government that they don't like COOL," Don Roose, analyst at U.S. Commodities, said of Mexico's action. Prior to Mexico saying shipments could resume on Monday, Roose had predicted the bans would be short, because Mexico needs the meat for its population. "You have to feed the masses," he said. News of the bans prompted selling in U.S. cattle and hog markets at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange on Friday, closing the markets lower. "That is bad news," Jim Clarkson, Chicago-based analyst at A&A Trading said of Mexico's action. "They (Mexico) are fighting COOL." After Mexico denied it was retaliating for COOL, Clarkson still predicted the labeling law may have helped prompt the bans. Due to the holiday period, attempts on Friday to reach USDA officials and many of the U.S. meat companies were unsuccessful. Food price rise could last another two years A cult BBQ brand stages a comeback Time to boycott all product from Mexico ESPECIALLY illegal aliens! They can eat sewer rat as far as I'm concerned! I have seen differences in dog food preference and took some advice and switched from my brand to Canadae.? Canadae was not for my dog. She got indigestion and very dry flaky skin. The sales rep said its rare that a dog gets indigestion but it has happened and the dry skin happens more often. Here is what I feed my dog and she seems to be doing well on it. If anyone knows something about these ingredients please let me know as I don't know of a site that deciphers the ingredients. Thanks so much you guys are real knowledgeable. Lamb meal, Ground brown rice, oatmeal, ground grain sorghum, poultry fat (preserved with natural mixed tocopherols, cittric acid and ascorbyl palmitate- a vitamin c ester),ground flax seeds, natural flavors, linseed meal, dried beet pulp, potassium chloride, dried kelp, choline chloride,DL-methionine, yucca schidigera extract, natural antioxidants, vitamin supplements (E,A,B2,B12,D3), niacin, calcium ascorbate, calcium pantothenate, thiamine mononitrate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, inositol, menadione sodium bisulfite complex ( source of vitamin K activity), folic acid biotin, zinc proteinate, zinc oxide, ferrous sulfate, iron proteinate, copper proteinate, copper sulfate, manganous proteinate, manganous oxide, cobalt proteinate, potassium iodide, sodium selenite, rosemary extract. I fed her Canadae for a little over a month. I found my brand in the 3 star category. I didn't know about the vit K stuff. I will heed this. Man, This dog eats better than we do and it seems it is still not the best. Thank You all for the info. Great stuff, great sites. My dog may not be getting top of the line food but we love her so much. She is our pride and joy. Here is her pic.http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa174/lab_rat15/XL025901.jpg

How do you handle those soliciting sales of steak and food? I live in the country side, today, there was someone who drove the truck and trying to sell steak and other poultry to me. He looked so weird and talked weird too. How do I stop this annoying soliciting sales? My house got broken into twice, therefore, I am kinda worried.

The Truth About Commercial Pet Food, by Tina Perry Cow brains. Sheep guts. Chicken heads. Road kill. Rancid grain. These are a few of the so-called nutritionally balanced ingredients found in the commercial pet food served to companion animals every day. More than 95 percent of US companion animals derive their nutritional needs from a single source: processed pet food. When people think of pet food, many envision whole chickens, choice cuts of beef, fresh grains, and all the nutrition that a dog or cat may ever need -- images that pet food manufacturers promote in their advertisements. What these companies do not reveal is that instead of whole chickens they have substituted chicken heads, feet, and intestines. Those choice cuts of beef are really cow brains, tongues, esophagi, fetal tissue dangerously high in hormones, and possibly diseased and even cancerous meat. Those whole grains have had the starch removed for corn starch powder and the oil extracted for corn oil, or they are hulls and other remnants from the milling process. Grains used that are truly whole have usually been deemed unfit for human consumption because of mold, contaminants, poor quality, or poor handling practices. Pet food is one of the world’s most synthetic edible products, containing virtually no whole ingredients. Pet food manufacturers have become masters at inducing companion animals to eat things cat and dogs would normally spurn. Pet food scientists have learned that it's possible to take a mixture of inedible scraps, fortify it with artificial vitamins and minerals, preserve it so that it can sit on the shelf for more than a year, add dyes to make it attractive, and then extrude it into whimsical shapes that appeal to the human consumer. For this, pet food companies can expect to earn $9 billion in sales in 1996. Scraps and Byproducts For years, many care givers have tried to avoid feeding their companion animals people food leftovers, having been warned by veterinarians about the heath problems they can cause. Yet much scrap material from the human food industry is ending up in dogs and cat’s dinner bowls. What the consumer purchases and what the manufacturer advertises are often two entirely different products, and this difference threatens the animals healthy, especially as they age. Learning to read ingredient labels and taking the time to read them carefully is crucial to making an educated choice when purchasing pet food. Ingredients are listed in descending order of weight (heaviest first) under standards established by the Center for Veterinary Medicine for the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The name of the product (in most states) is dictated by the regulations of the American Association of Feed Control Officials (AAFCO). The trouble is, AAFCO standards can lead to deceptive product names due to the weight and volume variations between wet and dry ingredients. Also, the average consumer has no idea what the definitions for the listed ingredients mean. Preservatives, vitamins, minerals, flavorings, and cereal make up most of what the companion animal eats. It is not happenstance that four of the top five major pet food companies in the United States are subsidiaries of major multinational food production companies: Colgate Palmolive (which produces Hills Science Diet), Heinz, Nestle, and Mars )see The Corporate Connection). From a business standpoint, multi-national food companies owning pet food manufacturers is an ideal relationship. The multinationals have captive market in which to dump their waste products, and the pet food manufacturers have a direct source of bulk materials. Both make a profit from selling scraps that originate from places far worse than the dinner table. In his 1986 book Pet Allergies veterinarian Al Plechner sums up what goes into companion animals food: Condemned parts and animals rejected for human consumption are routinely rerouted for commercial pet foods. A similar fate applies to so-called 4-D animals. These are food animals picked up dead, or that are dying, diseased, or disabled, and do not meet human-food qualifications. They are processed straightaway for companion animal consumption. Little goes to waste. Says Plechner, Food processing refuse of all sorts winds up in your animals dinner bowls. Moldy grains. Rancid foods. Meat meal. The latter is ground-up slaughterhouse discards often containing disease-ridden tissue and high levels of hormones and pesticides, the very things that may have contributed to the death of the steer or hog. A decade later, his words still apply. When cattle, swine, chickens, lambs, or other animals meet their ends at a slaughterhouse, the choice cuts -- lean muscle tissue and organs prized by humans -- are trimmed away from the carcass for human consumption. Whatever remains of the carcass (bones, blood, pus, intestines, ligaments, subcutaneous fat, hooves, horns, beaks, and any other parts not normally consumed by humans) is, according to the pet food industry, perfectly fit as a protein source for cat and dog food. The Pet Food Institute, the trade association of pet food manufacturers, acknowledges in its 1994 Fact Sheet the importance of using byproducts in pet foods as additional income for processors and farmers. The purchase and use of these ingredients by the pet food industry not only provides nutritional foods for pets at reasonable costs, but provides an important source of income to American farmers and processors of meat, poultry, and seafood products for human consumption. Many of these remnants are indigestible and provide a questionable source of nutrition. The amount of nutrition provided by meat byproducts, meals, and digests varies from vat to vat of this animal protein soup. A vat filled with chicken feet, beaks, and viscera is going to make available a lower amount of protein than a vat of breast meat. James Morris and Quinton Rogers, professors with Department of Molecular Biosciences at the University of California at Davis Veterinary School of Medicine, assert that there is virtually no information on the bio-availability of nutrients for companion animals in many of the common dietary ingredients used in pet foods. These ingredients are generally byproducts of the meat, poultry and fishing industries, with the potential for wide variation in nutrient composition. Claims of nutritional adequacy of pet foods based on the current AAFCO nutrient allowances (profiles) do not give assurances of nutritional adequacy and will not until ingredients are analyzed and bioavailability values are incorporated. Meat byproducts, the catch-all term of the pet food industry, is a misnomer because these byproducts contain little if any meat. Byproducts contain little if any meat. Byproduct are animal parts leftover after the meat has been stripped from the bone. Chicken byproducts include heads, feet, entrails, lungs, spleens, kidneys, brains, livers, stomachs, noses, blood, and intestines free of their contents. What the pet food manufactures fail to mention is that most byproducts, digests and meals are also filled with other substances, such as cancerous tissue cut from the carcass, plastic foam packaging containing spoiled meat from supermarkets, ear tags, spoiled slaughterhouse meat, road kill, and pieces of downer animals. Canned Cannibalism Another source of meat that isn't mentioned on pet food labels is pet byproducts, the bodies of dogs and cats. In 1990 the San Francisco Chronicle reported that euthanized companion animals were found in pet foods. Although pet food company executives and the National Renderers Association vehemently denied the report, the American Veterinary Medical Association and the FDA confirmed the story. The pets serve a viable purpose by providing foodstuff for the animal feed chain, said Lea McGovern, chief of the FDA's animal feed safety branch. Because of the sheer volume of animals rendered and the similarity in protein content between poultry byproducts and processed dogs and cats, rendering plant workers say it would be impossible for purchasers to know the exact contents of what they buy. In fact, Sacramento Rendering cited by inspectors five times in the past two years for product-labeling violations. Grease and Grain The most nutritious dry pet food is no better than the worst if animals will not eat it. Pet food scientists have discovered that spraying the kibble or pellets with a combination of refined animal fat, lard, kitchen grease, and other oils too rancid or deemed inedible for humans makes an otherwise bland or distasteful product palatable. Animal fat is mainly packing house waste or supermarket trimmings from the packaging of meats. Animals love the taste of this sprayed fat, which also acts as a binding agent to which manufacturers may add other flavor enhancers. The pungent odor wafting from an open bag of pet food is created by this concoction. Restaurant grease has become a major component of feed-grade animal fat over the last 15 years. Often held in 50-gallon drums for weeks or months in extreme temperatures, this grease is usually kelp outside with no regard for its safety or further use. The rancid grease is then picked up by fat blenders who mix the animal and vegetable fats together, stabilize them with powerful antioxidants to prevent further spoilage, and then sell the blended products to pet food companies. Rancid, heavily preserved fats are extremely difficult to digest and can lead to a host of animal health problems, including digestive upsets, diarrhea, gas, and bad breath. Once considered filler by the pet food industry, the amount of grain products included in pet food has risen over the last decade as the American population has focused its attention away from consuming beef and toward a healthier diet of grains and vegetables. Commonly two of the top three pet food ingredients are some form of grain products. For instance, Alpo's Beef Flavored Dinner lists ground yellow corn, soybean meal, and poultry byproduct meal as its top three ingredients. 9 Lives Crunchy Meals lists ground yellow corn, corn gluten meal, and poultry byproduct meal as its top three ingredients. Of the top four ingredients of Purina's O.N.E. Dog Formula -- chicken, ground yellow corn, ground wheat, and corn gluten meal -- two are corn-based products from the same source. This is an industry practice known as splitting. When components of the same whole ingredient are listed separately (ground yellow corn and corn gluten meal) it appears that there is less corn than chicken, even when the whole ingredient may weigh more than the chicken. Soy is another common ingredient in many pet foods. It is used by the manufacturers to boost the claimed protein content and add bulk so that when animals eat a product containing soy they will fell more sated. Tofu is suitable for humans, but most forms of soybean do not agree with a dog or cat's digestive system. Like many other pet food ingredients, soy is virtually unusable by an animal's body. Being obligate carnivores, cats have little ability to digest any nutrients from soy. The problem is worse for dogs because they lack the essential amino acid to digest soy products. Soy has also been linked to bloat and gas in many dogs. Additives and Processing Pet food industry critics note that many of the ingredients (such as corn syrup and corn gluten meal) used as humectants to prevent oxidation also bind water molecules in such a way that the food actually sticks to the animal's colon and may cause blockage. Blockage of the colon may cause an increased risk of cancer of the colon or rectum. Two-thirds of the pet food manufactured in the United States contains synthetic preservatives added by the manufacturer. Of the remaining third, 90 percent includes ingredients already stabilized by synthetic preservatives. Because most pet food contains large percentages of added fat, a stabilizer is needed to maintain the quality of the food. Sodium nitrite, often used as a coloring agent, fixative, and preservative, has the ability to combine with natural stomach and food chemicals (secondary amends) to create nitrosamines, powerful cancer-causing agents, according to A Consumer's Dictionary of Food Additives. Many pet foods advertised as preservative-free do not contain preservatives. Almost all rendered meats have synthetic preservatives added as stabilizer, but manufacturers aren't required to list preservatives they themselves haven't added. Premixed vitamin additives can also contain preservatives. In the 1003 Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, veterinarian Philip Roudebush reported finding low concentrations of synthetic antioxidant preservatives in all analyzed samples of products labeled as chemical free or all-natural. Other types of additives depend on whether the pet food is semi-moist, dry or canned. Because semi-moist food contains 25-50 percent water, antimicrobial preservatives must be used. Propylene glycol was frequently used in cat food until it was pulled in 1992 for causing a variety of health problems. Processing greatly alters the nutritional value of the food ingredients. Veterinarian R. L. Wysong states in Rationale for Animal Nutrition: Processing is the wild card in nutritional value that is, by and large, simply ignored. Heating, freezing, dehydrating, canning, extruding, pelleting, baking and so forth, are so commonplace that they are simply thought of as synonymous with food itself. Because the ingredients that pet food companies use are not wholesome, and harsh manufacturing practices destroy what little nutritional value the food may have had in the first place, the final product must be fortified with vitamins and minerals. Questionable Nutrition How, then, can any pet food be guaranteed to be 100 percent complete or nutritionally adequate? As long as it meets the AAFCO minimum standards, such a guarantee can be on the label. Yet in 1994, feed tests conducted by the New York State Agriculture Department showed 7 percent of all pet foods analyzed failed chemical analyses for guaranteed nutrients. Other states report similar findings, with failure of analyzed feed ranging from to 12 percent. Even if a pet food meets AAFCO standards, certain nutritional requirements (for example, lysine) can vary between species by as much as seven-fold. Although manufacturers clam that millions of companion animals can thrive on a diet consisting of nothing by commercial pet food, research and an increasing number of veterinarians implicate processed pet food as a source of disease or as an exacerbating agent for a number of degenerative diseases. For example, kidney disease is on of the top three killers of companion animals. According to Plechner, the extra protein and harsh ingredients of many pet foods place an overload on the kidneys. Left untreated, the toxic buildup leads to vomiting, loss of appetite, uremic poisoning, and death. Wysong adds, In the last few years, large statistical studies have shown the link between the diet (of processed foods) and a variety of degenerative diseases, including cancer, heart disease, allergies, arthritis, obesity, dental disease, etc. After extensive research, the Animal Protection Institute (API) published a Pet Food Investigative Report to educate companion animal care givers about pet food ingredients, ingredient definitions, labeling, and dietary ailments resulting from processed commercial pet food, including the most commonly know brands. Yet, whether such food is purchased at the supermarket, pet store, or from a veterinarian, it makes little difference in terms of the quality -- only in the cost. Since the report was published earlier this year, API has conducted more research on holistic pet care and pet food alternatives, but still claims that the vast majority of pet foods available on the market today provide less that optimum nutrition for companion animals. It is sad to think that the food provided by animal care givers to their four-legged friends could be hazardous to the animals'; health and longevity. Care givers should assume responsibility for providing as healthful a diet as possible for the animals in the care. Consumers should be informed: speak with a holistic practitioner or herbalist, or consult your veterinarian (but be aware that a veterinarian's knowledge of nutrition may be limited to the two weeks of nutrition he or she had veterinary school 20 years ago). Although the ideal solution would be for companion animals to be fed only wholesome homemade and/or vegetarian diets, this is not an optician for everyone -- the cost and time commitment is sometimes prohibitive. By taking more moderate steps, however, care givers can still greatly improve companion animals' diet and quality of life. EDIT: On Carin Rennings page she lists recommended diets... she really researched them and its really helpful....go check it out..smile EDIT EDIT: sorry but it is still happening to the person that said its not... when I did my research I asked around and found out that the people that picked up the dead pets from the vets offices that did not want a private creamation actually had a company come in and pick the bodies up...really sick...valley protien I think was the name of the company... I am not just trying to "SCARE" people ...here is more proof....read this article JUST WRITTEN!! and see for yourself whats in your pet foods!! http://www.petfoodreport.com/aboutpetfood.htm#ingredients Edit: as far as ill timing and such... If you knew every bit of dirt that went on in a Factory Farm would you become vegan? After watching the Documentary Death on a Factory Farm, I was literally sick to my stomach watching the way pigs/hogs were treated. Knowing that the majority of our meat & poultry derives from such conditions is making me consider purchasing off family friend farmers and avoiding whole sale meat at major food outlets. Would you consider this option after knowing the conditions of the animals prior to it sitting on your plate? Do you think it's an excuse mistreat animals because of what they're going to become? And do you think the laws of euthanasia of animals should change?
Criminal negligence? Charles Bourns, chairman of the National Farmers Union's poultry board, said farmers were worried about the potential impact on sales. He urged shoppers: "Just keep eating chicken and enjoying it. There is no danger from it. This is a disease of chickens and not of humans. Just carry on eating it as per normal." Does anyone in the UK really understand what H5N1 is?
What is your opinion on this story Ark. Hispanics gained new voice in difficult times bishops says illegals? What is your opinion on this story Ark. Hispanics gained new voice in difficult times bishops says illegals have the "God-given right to immigrate." and again what is the Catholics position on illegasl who sneak into America obtain and use stolen or fake documents are these laws considered by the Catholic bishops to be unjust laws and therefore illegals have a God given right to use said docuements seeing as how the church says the laws are unjust ?Can someone list all laws bishops consider unjust ?LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Hispanic immigrants in Arkansas gained a new protector in an outspoken Catholic bishop in 2008, as immigration raids, an economy in recession and political scrutiny slowed one of the nation's fastest growing Latino populations. Bishop Anthony B. Taylor became head of the Diocese of Little Rock in April, which oversees all of Arkansas' 116,000 parishioners. Pope Benedict XVI's selection of the Oklahoma priest showed a new attention to the Hispanic community, which represents 55 percent of all parishioners in the state. Taylor, who previously signed a letter of protest against Oklahoma laws aimed at illegal immigration, issued his first pastoral letter in November to say people have a "God-given right to immigrate." "We cannot participate in an act of injustice," Taylor told reporters at the time. "People say, 'There's a law here,' but don't understand that law is an unjust law and people are prevented from exercising their God-given human rights."Taylor's statements contrast with others in state government including Gov. Mike Beebe, who routinely says "illegal means illegal" when it comes to immigration. However, Beebe came out against a failed ballot measure seeking to deny illegal immigrants some state benefits, saying much of it already was in state law. That wasn't the case. Both the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and the University of Central Arkansas in Conway allowed students to receive in-state tuition even if they couldn't provide Social Security numbers. After an Associated Press story questioned the governor's stance, the state's higher education chief immediately ordered all two- and four-year colleges and universities to verify potential students' immigration status. Immigration also remained a focus of law enforcement during the year. Arkansas State Police reached an agreement with federal agents to train troopers on how to examine and detect forged identity documents carried by suspected illegal immigrants. Police agencies in northwest Arkansas continued to enforce some federal immigration laws under a new program. The immigration arrest that brought the most attention to the region was that of Adriana Torres-Flores, arrested for selling pirated CDs. She spent four days in March without food or water in a Washington County Courthouse jail cell after being forgotten inside. Charges against Torres-Flores were eventually dropped. The Mexican Consulate in Little Rock, which condemned the incident, served other immigrants during the year. The diplomatic outpost now has 21 employees, who can handle about 300 requests a day for those seeking matricular consular identity cards, passports, legal help and birth certificates. The consulate also provided legal services to those arrested in several immigration raids conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement during the year. Agents arrested 24 men in a raid on a construction site near Little Rock National Airport in April, while another 18 were arrested earlier in the month at a Pilgrim's Pride plant in Batesville. In July, agents arrested 13 suspected illegal immigrants during a raid at a North Little Rock boat manufacturer. Still, poultry plants and construction sites in the state's northwest corner drew immigrants to Benton and Washington counties. U.S. Census Bureau statistics showed Arkansas with more than 150,000 Hispanics living within its borders, up from 1990, when estimates showed only 19,876 lived in the state. That population faced new struggles as feed prices and economic pressures led to poultry plants cutting back hours or simply shutting down. A collapse in the nation's mortgage market also stalled home sales, meaning fewer jobs putting up drywall or framing houses. Immigration slowed, but didn't stall, said Steve Striffler, an anthropology professor at the University of New Orleans. "Overall, I think it's still relatively immigrant-friendly, not so much in terms of the laws or the reception of folks, but I think the economy relative to other places is not that bad," Striffler told the AP in October. "Certainly, construction is just being hit everywhere in the U.S. right now, so we're not alone." That could change if Arkansas passes illegal immigration laws similar to those already in place in Oklahoma. Lawmakers have acknowledged the issue will come up in the 2009 legislative session, though no proposed bills have been filed. If they come, a debate thus far largely a
My theory - did pharmaceutical co Hoffmann-La Roche manufacture swine flu so they can sell Tamiflu considering? considering a) it is an artificially created strain that includes swine gene from N America, swine gene from Europe/Asia, bird gene and human gene which according to the CDC doesn't combine unless artificially in a lab. Also: "In a recent meeting of regional health ministers, Dr. Francisco J. Duque III, Secretary of the Philippines Department of Health, accused Roche of "monopolizing" the production and distribution of the drug known as Oseltamivir (brand name Tamiflu). Oseltamivir is considered to be the primary antiviral drug used to combat avian influenza, commonly known as the bird flu. Roche is the only drug company authorized to manufacture the drug, which was discovered by Gilead Sciences. Roche purchased the rights to the drug in 1996 and in 2005 settled a royalty dispute, agreeing to pay Gilead tiered royalties of 14-22% of annual net sales.[10] The Philippine health secretary complained that the supply of the said drug is only concentrated in First World countries even if the disease is ravaging bird and poultry populations in Southeast Asia as of this time." I obviously don't have evidence, I'm just wondering so calm down. Well maybe the Rear Admiral testifying to congress which I'm watching on C-Span lied then? I'd rather believe that source than your opinions that it is a mutation.
