What type of rooster is white with a buff neck, brownish on wing area and back, with a large stand up comb? These are roosters with overall body color white. The neck and head area are buff color and they have a mottled dark brown across their backs. The combs are very large and stand upright. Were fillers from a hatchery.
Hens or Roosters? My chickens are 8 weeks old and I'm wondering whether I have hens or roosters. At first I thought that one of then was a rooster because it has a larger comb bu the tail feathers are straight like a hen's so far and it doesn't fly up high to roost like my other one does. My other one acts more docile so I thought it was a hen but it flys up high to roost and it has the curvy tail feathers and a shorter comb. What should I name my new pet chicken? I recently bought a new pet chicken to keep my other one, Comet, company. I am not absolutely certain that she's a hen yet, she may be a rooster. She's a bit young to tell, her comb and wattle are only just growing, but we believe that she is a hen. It'd be great if you could come up with some rooster names too, but mainly hen names. She is only a few months old. She is a Japanese bantam cross, so is quite small. Her head, short neck and a small area surrounding it is white. Most of her wings, underbelly and just before her wings are black with a bit of white, while half of her wings are orangy-red, with some black (reminding me vaguely of a big cat) and a bit of white. Her tail is reasonably high, a lighter orange, black and white. Does anyone have an idea? Also, I probably won't go with a silly or funny kind of name, like Eggs or Omelette or Roast or something. why does our rooster do this? we have a rhode island red rooster who hangs his wing down and "dances" around our red star hens. why does he do this? Is he just trying to show off or something? How do you get a rooster to get along with a hen? We have a couple of hens and a couple of roosters. The problem is, when one of the roosters is alone with a chicken, he sorta beats her up - smacks her with his wings, pecks at her violently, etc. Both of the roosters do this, to both of the hens. They're both about a year old, I believe. They're really weird, too, because even though they beat the hens up, when we let them out of their coop to walk around, they both rush over to the hens' coop right away. They're attracted to each other alright, but they don't know how to behave. We're never going to get any chicks at this rate! How do I get the roosters to be nice? Yes, I'm pretty dang sure the hens are hens and not roosters. They've both been laying eggs for quite some time now. Actually, the ooster are quite friendly with each other. They scuffled quite a bit at first, but they haven't for a long time. When it gets dark out and they want to go back into their coops, they sometimes even run into the same one, without fighting. It doesn't just look like the roosters are beating up the hens; they ARE beating up the hens. Our slightly older hen came out with feathers missing all over, with bald spots here and there. She ate less, and didn't lay any eggs for a little while.

Brass Fighting Rooster Set-- Antique? I picked up a pair of brass fighting roosters, about 11 inches tall at the tip of the wings/tail, at an estate sale about a year ago. A friend of mine has a pair of silver roosters, and she says her grandfather had at least four other sets. My question is this: What's the story behind them? Experience on castrating a chicken? Hello, so I'm told by a friend here that when a male chicken (rooster) is castrated an incision is made near the wing. question about a rooster? My neighbor has the really annoying rooster. It crows all hours of the night, eats cat food instead of its own food, and gets up on my porch and craps everywhere. One night he got attacked and carried off by a dog, and one of the other neighbors seen the dog carrying the rooster and somehow managed to get it from the dog and brung it back to my neighbor! Anyways, it injured one of his wings and he can't fly up in the tree he used to sleep in. Now since he is frightened of the dog, he will not sleep in my neighbor's yard anymore; he sleep in mine. It is right by my back porch and there is crap everywhere because that's his hangout at night. We've tried everything: running him off with broom, throwing a bucket of water on him, etc. We really like our neighbor and have tried to hint around that he's bothering us, but he's an old man and doesn't try to pen him up or anything. Any suggestion on how to get rid of this chicken?
Rooster not using his feet? One of my young roosters (hatched in March) developed some weird symptoms: He is not using his feet and tries standing on his ankles.He can't hold himself up-right that way and can move only very little pushing himself forward on his wings. He is the smallest of the flock, but he does not exhibit any signs of being pecked. He seems neither paralyzed nor are his legs broken. He still is eating, (I put food near enough for him to reach). the past 3 days(including today) my rooster keeps trying to attack me! What gives? he jumps at me and tries to kick, spur, lounge, peck anything he can. He fluffs his feathers up and drags one wing too. He has never acted this way and now i feel liek i have to be armed to go to the coop. he even does this when i bring him food and h20. Can birds sense a womans hormons? or is this bird just nuts?? WHy has he started doing this?

Help with my chickens !!? Hi. I grew up on a farm with chickens. Then got married and moved to the city. Bad idea. Well I'm finally back in the country and have chickens. I have several questions. #1. Why in the heck is my rooster pecking holes in my hens wings and breast. I know he pulls a little when mating but they have huge gaping holes in them!!! Not nice. #2. I want to hatch some eggs. Last year I had a hen that I had to remove from the nest to get the eggs. This year not yet. Is it still a little to early? I live in Texas. #3. When and if I finally do have babies, do I need to keep them separated from the other hens and rooster? Do I need to put both hen and chicks in a house on the ground?

I have had her for 2 weeks and she started laying eggs 10 days after I got her I was woundering if her eggs are fertile since she was with roosters, Some of her head furthers are missing and her wing furthers are parted like a rooster was on her. I just wanted to know if her eggs are fertile or not I don't know how long it take's for the hen to start laying her eggs after she meets a handsome rooster?

Brewster the Rooster joke, anyone got another? Farmer Joe wasn't havin' much luck gettin' his hens to lay eggs until he found this prize winning rooster at the fair. The man promised "This here rooster named Brewster is guaranteed to make your hens lay moe eggs than ever before." The price was a little high but Farmer Joe Paid it and brought 'ol Brewster home. Soon as he let him go Brewster chased all the hens into the hens house, feathers were flying, hens were cacklin' and a few hours later they were laying more eggs than ever. Joe decided to give the hens a rest an put Brewster into the barn. Next thing Brewster was humping the cow. "Damn horney Rooster", "Guess I gotta put you in the house!" Little while later the Joe walked in and Brewster was ontop his wife. Joe grabbed Brewster by the neck and threw him into the yard. While later Joe saw buzzards circlin 'bout. Feeding BARF: Butchering chickens for dog, to freeze,do i have to gut the chicken before freezing it? I ordered unsexed laying chickens, and want to put the roosters in the freezer for the dog to eat. Killing,plucking,and gutting a chicken is alot of work! Does anyone have ideas to make it go faster? I would cut off the legs, wings, and neck. Can I freeze the heads? Do i have to take out the intestines? Do i have to clean out the croop? Can i just leave the heart and liver ect in the chicken and freeze it as is? She is just a puppy now, but i think she will be about the size of a german shepard when fully grown. i have chickens to butcher for my family to eat as well, so any ideas on how to make this go faster would be great! i have seen what happens to some of the chickens, and other meat animals that are killed in mass numbers by a computer orerated system! That is cruelty! All animals on my farm are raised free to run, have every thing that they need, and are free to forage. I do not pen up or fence in any of my chickens. They have a very happy life. And then they are taken to were the other cannot see and killed quickly, no suffering or torture here! Why else do you think that i dont just buy a bag of dog food, TO BUY DOG FOOD WOULD BE LIKE PROMOTING CRUALTY TO CHICKENS, AND ALL ANIMALS! (that is just my opinion, everyone is entitled to their own opions, I can raise my own animals, so I can do something about it and raise them humainley) BARF-BONES AND RAW FOOD I have done a lot of reading and I do make sure that the puppy gets, eggs and shells, RMB,veggies, and organ meats. I just thaught that because I was raising chickens anyways I would raise some for my dog.
2 week old shaver chicks... male or female?? Ive got 3 2 week old shaver chicks and the pet store lady said they were definately girls when we got them at 3 days old. But im not so sure now. One of them is bigger than the others and her feathers are darker and bigger. She has bigger wings and shes really confident. Shes got long legs too. She has the same sized comb as everyone else - still tiny as they are still young. How can I tell if she's a rooster or a hen?

Bantam Rooster Help....Please!? Yesterday morning I found my Bantam Rooster with his leg caught in some chain link fence. I have called every damn vet here and there isn't any that looks at chickens. The only 1 vet that does... doesn't accept Care Credit. I'm at my wits end because I'm not sure what to do? I can't tell if his leg is broken and I feel so bad not knowing what to do. He tries to walk but just flaps his wings and stumbles around. I've looked up online as to what I can possibly do but can't find anything. Can someone, anyone please help me? I don't want to have him put to sleep, but I also don't want him to suffer....what can I do & how do I tell if his leg is broken? My brother told me I can put a splint on it's leg but I'm afraid to even try to do anything for fear of hurting him even further. If it's not broken will it heal on it's own? Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
