Plans or instructions for a small inexpensive chicken coop? I live in florida in a suburban neighborhood so it needs to be relatively small i do have a large yard with an 8 foot fence so as long as its shorter than that i'll be fine. I only have 3 white cochin bantam chicks and might only keep two so it really needs to be small I just really am keeping them for pets and stuff. I do have woods a block behind my house so predators are definitely a threat. Anything helps!!!

What size chicken coop do I need? Iv been looking at plans for chicken coops. I have 12 baby chicks that I intend to raise for eggs. building a chicken coop? im thinking of buying a chicken coop plans and material kit. it says it says you can have your choice of tongue and groove 1 x 6 siding or 4 x 8 sheets 7/16th hardboard woodgrain siding. which is best?
What Chicken Coop is Best? so this spring or summer (2010) i am gonna be getting some Silkie Bantam hens. i will buy them as chicks and raise them myself. i am only going to get 3-4 chickens. i picked out some coops that i like, i will give you the links below, but i was wondering if anyone knew any other website that i could look at so i could have more of a variety. i have already out ruled those "eglus" chicken coops. the one for 2 chickens looks like a litter box. and they are like $500! not worth it. they will have a lot of room to roam around, we have this big gated part in the sideyard that we will just place the coop in...also, does anyone know any good e-courses for free that i could sign up for? thanks so much! http://www.mypetchicken.com/catalog/Chicken-Coops/The-Foursquare-Coop-with-Run-3-4-chickens-p720.aspx http://www.mypetchicken.com/catalog/Chicken-Coops/The-Saltbox-Coop-with-Run-4-chickens-p697.aspx http://www.mypetchicken.com/catalog/Chicken-Coop-Plans/Green-Roof-Plans-up-to-4-chickens-p659.aspx

I Need Chicken Coop Plan.? Looking for a detailed chicken coop plan for about 5 hens. You can email me at ellimac92@comcast.net if you like.
I'm building a chicken coop and have a question as to placement in relation to my well.? The coop will house 15 chickens (for laying) and 10 birds (for meat). We have a well on our property, and I want to ensure that I have the coop far enough away from it so I don't contaminate our ground water supply. I also want it close enough to the garden (which is right by the well) to allow for ease in feeding garden scraps to the chickens. Every search that I've done on google brings up chicken coop plans, but not the distance needed from a well.
How deep should a fox barrier be on a chicken coop? We are planning to build a chicken coop and run and note that it is recommended to place a solid barrier below ground level to prevent foxes and other predators from digging their way in. How far below ground level should the solid fox barrier be? ie how deep might they dig? Should we also place a chicken wire roof over the run as well or is that not necessary?
How Do you Make a Chicken Coop? I want to keep 2-3 chickens but coops are VERY expensive. Cant find free plans anywhere on building one. Does anyone know how to build a chicken coop cheaply/from recycled materials. also we don't have any grass but lots of soil.
convert a shed into a chicken coop- how do I make a run outside? My Mum wants pet chickens and I decided to convert a large garden shed into a coop as she wants 6 chickens but may want more in the future so this seemed the ideal thing as I have found that my plan will hold loads of chickens comfortably. My only problem would be building a large run outside- my only idea for this bit is chicken wire but I'd want it to be about 7ft high as we have foxes in the area- any ideas? Please?
plan - design of a chicken coop (poultry house)? I am planning to build a chicken coop (poultry house) for chickens, guinea fowl and turkeys. I am thinking of 20 - 30 birds. They'll have a huge place to roam, there is a huge piece of grassland...So I need a coop where they can sleep, lay their eggs and shelter for rain. In my area it's quite hot, never gets below 15C. Max temp 35C. thanks
chicken coop question? 10 points to best answer!? I bought plans for a chicken coop and it says to buy 1/2" wire mesh to put on the bottom (It is a raised coop) and I am not sure that that is a good idea. Just because it will hurt their feet and get cold in the coop in the winter time. so I think that I will just put plywood on the bottom. What do you think?
The William Chicken Coop Hen House??? 10 points to the best answer!!!!!!!? I have been looking for the william chicken coop hen house plans for a long time now! In FarmVille, can you move a building (i.e. horse stable, chicken coop, house) once you build it? I JUST started FarmVille in the past week so I don't know much about it. I know you can move things like plots of plowed land for crops, picnic tables, bales of hay, animals, but I plan on expanding my land to the maximum someday and I don't want to build the free buildings I was given (a horse stable and two chicken coops to be specific) if I can't move them later on to fit my new, bigger plot of land. Can buildings be moved/rotated once built? Thanks!
Chicken coop quesiton? 10 points to best? Is this coop a good coop? I bought the plans and I am thinking of putting some cabinate door things (so that I can open and close them if it is rainy or not) on the long open parts in the front that are covered with chicken wire. Here is the link and you can click on more photos ot view more photos. http://www.chickchalet.com/index.html thanks! best answer!!
How warm do chickens like their coop? I have a chicken coop that is about 6x4. It is getting cold so I placed a heat lamp in the coop. I went in there about 30 min later and the coop was like an oven. I'm planning on putting a smaller light in but I was just wondering...does a chicken produce better because it is warm or because of the light? How warm do chickens like their coop to be?
Ever feel like you are in a chicken coop? For some reason, the more I hear my Christian brethren on here telling people who don't believe as they do that Satan is going to get them for not believing, the more frustrated I become with the concept of heaven and hell. I am a Christian; I believe and have accepted (a long time ago) Jesus as my savior. I just can't buy the concept that God created us in this giant coop and the devil is the fox skulking around outside just waiting to get his jaws on the poor defenseless chicken....it seems too much like the threats of power hungry man, yet again threatening the masses to go along with his plans.
gotta make a chicken coop model?!? i have to make a chicken coop model smaller than a school desk, what are some materials tha can bend because my coop is rounded. its like a half circle :) any help is appreciated, i am planning on coating it with aluminum foil to make it look metal,
Best way to convert a shed to chicken coop...? We have a shed which is about 7 ft. by 8 ft. I want to convert it into a chicken coop. I need some advice on the best way to do it. It has double doors at one end, and small prop-open windows on each side, with the back (north) side being solid. It's a metal shed with a metal roof and a wooden floor. Someone has nailed sheet metal along the bottom 15 inches or so of the doors, which are otherwise made of plywood. The shed is located in the shade of several pine trees. I want to construct a fenced run outside the shed to let the chickens out into. What I really would like to do is figure out some way to make the run movable, so they can graze one part and then I can move it to let them graze another part while the other part "rests." This will stick out into our yard. Also, there is a black walnut tree right behind the shed and I'm wondering if they will get sick if they eat black walnuts that have fallen into the area (which they do regularly when ripe). Any suggestions much appreciated! What I really would like is a movable chicken coop, but it seems silly to do that when we already have the shed and it's empty. Oh, I forgot to mention that we plan on keeping 8-12 chickens (Rhode Island Reds).
I am planning to make my 6x4 ft shed into a chicken coop.? I have a 6x4 ft shed in my garden which i will add nest boxes and perches too for a chicken coop. and i am making one large run which will have a gate in the middle so the chickens can use half at a time to allow grass to grow and so their ground isnt ruined. the run will be 4x7 ft one side of the shed and 8x7ft the other end of the shed.. the two will link up but be used half at a time. is this okay for three to four chickens? and is it okay that their night time house/coop is on the ground because i have heard they have to be above ground because of vermin?? also how tall should the chicken wire of the run be?
What size do you think for my chicken coop, for chickens to lay eggs & everything? Okay, I want to build my own chicken coop, I can't find any I like. I want to have a run as well, still don't know what Im going to make that out of.... Anyway, Ive had 12'x12' in mind, until I read that it would be very hard to transport..I need something I can move, we might move in a couple years, and I would want to take it with me...so do you think I should go smaller? I have 6 chicks now, and I want to store their food in their. Please share ideas. I just wanted a bigger area, so they will be happy, I'm already thinking about getting more as well, so I might expand my chicken tribe...I have NO idea how I'm going to build this, its like a shed....has to be made of pressure treated wood, has to have a frame...so if you have any websites that have good plans & detailed items needed list, that'd be great!
Chicken Coops with Linoleum Floor? I am planning to build a small chicken coop (4 X8') and the plans call for a plywood floor which I was thinking of covering with linoleum in the hopes that it may make it easier to clean, disinfect or powerwash. Does anyone have any better ideas or reasons this would be a bad idea?
how can i make my mum see that i want to make a new chicken coop? ive been wanting chickens since i saw 'Jamie's fowl dinners' and my mum said ok, i really want them and have been looking then up on the net since, i know what to feed them etc. but when it came to the coop she said we can use the old one at my Nana and Papas, now im not being mean but i was planning on building my own, i have made a plan and sized it up and i have some wood work skills that would cover the job, but my mum is refusing for me to make it even though we have all the materials lying around for free up in our shed. The old one at my Nana and Papas has been used to house orphan or rejected lambs at my nana and papason croft for the past 15 years of so, mum goes and moves the 2 lambs that have been sharing it over the year and it just needs driven over the 5 miles or so to our house, WHEN that will be done i have NO IDEA, why cant she jst keep that for the lambs and let me make my own which wont cost her anything, i just don't know, PLEASE HELP and give a rational answer soon-ish before i scream my head off at her.
Chicken Tractor for 25 chickens? I need a plan or a picture of a portable chicken coop that can hold 25 chickens. I told my farm boss it's gonna be hard to find but he isn't listening. Anywho, I don't want a list of sites or magazines I can look in, I've already done that. I need the plans or a picture, not a place to look. I've been looking everywhere, I need some results. Much Thanks.
Can I use shredded paper in a chicken coop? Im looking at getting 3 chucks and have been looking into the various designs of coops,Obviously the new eglu cube would be great but the price is too much,so going for a traditional style with nesting boxes and good size run area etc...it seems to me the great feature on the eglu is the removable trays for cleaning purposes, and so plan to get hubby to make me some for the wood one I choose, but could we put shredded paper in the bottom to aid emptying or what would anyone with more experience than me suggest!?

Giant Climbing Roses Curious? So a few nights back I bought a giant climbing rose bush for like six bucks, and now I'm curious about what I've gotten myself into. my family seems to have this "strange" tendency to KILL plants as soon as they arrive back home. BUT I WON'T DO IT, I JUST WON'T THIS TIME!! the main purpose for this bush I've bought is to HIDE a particularly monstrous chicken coop I plan on building. the run will be 12'X6'X6', and the coop will most likely end up being 6'X6'X6'. pretty big for just three chickens if you ask me. so if there are any AMAZINGLY smart gardeners out there who have any advice of info about training a rose bush to climb a coop that'd be pretty sweet. or if you just feel like talking about roses chickens or bunnies feel free. THANKS! -Julia sweeeet. yup I'm pretty sure mine is something like those, but I'm not POSITIVE! the lable on them is pretty vague... right now it is pruned completely down to just a few branches and it's waxed on the tops. that won't be a problem will it? thanks! -Julia

Rasing Chickens? I have decided thhat I want to build a chicken coop on my ranch but I have never done so before. I am needing advice as to where to put the coop, what some good chickens to get would be (I am looking for egg layers not butcher chickens), and any advice to have on this adventure would be. Also this time of year can I still buy chicks? And can I mix Pheasants with chickens? I am planning to release the Pheasants, but I wanted to put them someplace to be raised at the same time as the chickens. Thanks and any websites on this would be good too.
Questions about CHICKENS!? We're needing a little help building a chicken coop/house and keeping it on the cheaper side! So please answer anything that can help! Info that may help: *Located in Oklahoma *We have 4 chickens, and plan to get 2/3 more *We want them to have an "indoor" area *We have a guard dog to keep predators away *They'll just be used for "pets" and fresh eggs 1. Where did you purchase the materials to build your coop? 2. What kind of materials did you use? 3. How much did it cost? 4. Any special advice you have? Thanks! Ten points to most helpful!
Can I ( should I ) build an enclosure around an existing chicken's nest in my backyard? There's about a dozen eggs under a chicken in a bush in my backyard. I'm fairly certain the eggs will hatch as we recently had a successful chicken nest in our front yard. The front yard chickens left before I could put them in a coop. I want to keep the backyard chicks and chicken, and am planning on enclosing the area around the nest in chicken wire until after the chicks hatch. At that point I will transfer them into a coop that we're building. Most importantly, am I risking the lives of either chicken or eggs by enclosing the area (about 36 sq. ft.) in chicken wire? Additionally, are there any tips on what needs the chicken will have once I've fenced it off from the rest of the world (shade, temperature, food, water, other)? Any help with this would be appreciated, I haven't been able to find much info about it elsewhere on the web.
do i need to build my greenhouse in full sun? We live in California and are planning on building a premaculture chicken/greenhouse. The greenhouse on the south side of the coop. We are finding a difficult full sunny spot. We plan to grow herbs, tomatoes and lettuces in it . How much sun will our greenhouse actually need?
what chickens do best in Texas and also lay at least 1 egg a day. ? We moved from the city nd are now in the Texas hill country and are planning on getting chickens. We aren't going to get a rooster but we still want chickens that will lay one or more eggs every day. We want chickens that can stand weather that will get up to the ninety's in the summer, and below freezing in the winter. Please help cause we have already started on the coop. Thanks!!!
baby chick coop? hi i got a chick off someone and he/she has been in my backyard for about 2 weeks so far. I was wondering, is it necessary to give it a coop, it seems to like to hide in the bushes, and at night it hides on the top of the same one every time. we have food and water next to it. I was thinking about building a coop but it has to be small. I've searched for plans to build one but they are all so big, usually for more than one chicken, I just want one for one chicken. also, does it NEED to have a run because our backyard is fenced in, and i think it's going to be running around the yard a lot anyway, I don't plan on locking the chick in the coop ever. thanks oh and I know it should have a friend but i don't think i could get another one unless the chick grows up to be a hen and has another and I think my parents only want one in their backyard >.>
Silkie Bantams? I have never kept any sort of bird as a pet before and we are thinking about getting some silkie chickens for my neice to show in 4H. Are they friendly birds? How big would a coop for about 10 chickens need to be? Do you know of any nice coop plans for free on the internet? How long do they live? What is the name of a hatchery that breeds nice looking silkies? Thank you!
Pet chickens? I plan on getting my dad a few pet chickens for his birthday. Where can I buy chicken feed? What materials do I need to make a chicken coop for about 3-5 chickens? Other than food and water, what other items will I need to care of the chickens? Thanks in advance. :)

Is Oriental Bittersweet vine poisonous to chickens? I am planning to train the bittersweet vine to climb and cover the coop to create shade. Are there any parts of it that are deadly to chickens in case they peck at it. Here is a picture of what it looks like...it is not the american bittersweet. http://graphics.boston.com/resize/bonzai-fba/Globe_Photo/2007/10/17/1192665164_9523/300h.jpg
I have baby chicks.? I have 5 hatched baby chicks and 1 trying to hatch. They're chickens. The momma hen is taking care of them in a nest box about 4 feet off the ground in our chicken coop in our barn.I have other hens and roosters in there on their roosts and in the other hen boxes. It is dark so will the other chickens kill or hurt the baby chicks?I plan on taking her and her babies out in the morning right before sunrise.Should I or should I leave them in there? What should I do because earlier today right after 1 hatched a different hen(Not the momma hen)pecked a baby and made it bleed. Its still alive but I don't want the others to get hurt. Also do I need to feed them tonight? What should I do and do you have any suggestions or websites I could go to? Thank you and only serious answers wanted. Also do I need to water them?

How much indoor and outdoor space per bird do I need for laying hens? I plan to get about 25 laying hens in the spring. My brother and husband are putting together coop plans now, so we know what we will need. I've heard that you need 3-4 square feet per bird inside, so will a 10x15 laying hen room be sufficient? We also plan to build an outside fenced run so the dog won't chase them. How big should this be? Do we need to put chicken wire over the top or just on the sides? Thanks in advance for your help. Also, those who have kept laying hens in areas with cold winters, how do you make sure your birds are cozy in the winter?
Rabbit hutch!? Ok, i just bought a rabbit hutch cuz im planning on getting a bunny soon. But the hutch has a wire chicken coop at the bottom instead so if i put shavings at the bottom they will fall through and something has to go at the bottom or the rabbits feet will get hurt. What can i put at the bottom for this problem. Also im thinking of keeping it inside because i live in Arizona and it gets real hot. So the solution cant be messy. And how hot and cold of tempeture can rabbits stand? Thank you! Sites and good info are great!
I would like to raise some laying chickens.. have you ever? I'm an adult and my home is zoned for chickens. having said that: where do I start? we won't be eating the chickens and plan to provide a good home even past their egg laying days. How many chickens should I get? It's more for fun, but we do want the eggs. Where should I get the chickens? Waht is the best time of year to start? How much money will it cost to get started? Do vets generally care for chickens too? Do regular coops protect against natural predators, or will I need to take special precautions/ (coyotes and the rare neighborhood cat) ok, well, LOL, I think I have enough questions.. really , any legitimate answers and/or information would be well appreciated. Thanks so much to both of you for such wonderful information! (and, lol, to Heidi for being interested) Nature Mother.. I genuinely appreciate the personal stories.. Ron Paul supporters have you seen any reaction to Paulson's plan for the Fed to be given more keys to the? chicken coop? I couldn't find anything directly on that, just this general comment from yesterday, which says in part: "These past few weeks have provided an unfortunate opportunity to discuss inflation. The dollar index has reached new all-time lows. The total money supply, M3, as calculated by private sources, is growing at a disturbing 17% rate. The Fed is pumping dollars into the economy at an alarming rate. Just recently the Fed announced new loan auctions totaling $100 billion. That is new money created from thin air. If these money auctions, combined with the bailout of Bear Stearns, continue to be the trend, we are in for some economic stormy weather. The explanation lies in understanding the basics of money, and why it is dangerous to give government and big banks control over it. You cannot create more wealth simply by creating more money. You see, the Fed creates new money and uses it to purchase securities from banks. Flush with funds, these banks seek to put this money to use. During the Fed's expansionary period, much of this money went to home loans. Through a combination of federal government inducements to lend to risky borrowers, and the Fed's supply of easy money, the housing bubble took shape. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were encouraged to purchase and securitize mortgages, while investors, buoyed by implicit government backing, rushed to provide funding. Money that could have been invested in more productive, less risky sectors of the economy was thereby malinvested in subprime mortgage loans. The implicit guarantee from the Fed is quickly becoming explicit, as those institutions deemed "too big to fail" are bailed out at taxpayer expense. Wall Street made a killing during the housing bubble, reaping record profits. Now that the bubble has burst, these same firms are trying to dump their losses on the taxpayers. This approach requires more money creation, and therefore debasement of all dollars in circulation. The Federal Reserve, a quasi-government entity, should not be creating money or determining interest rates, as this causes malinvestment and excessive debt to accumulate. The end game for this policy of monetary inflation is that the money in your bank account loses purchasing power. So, by keeping failing banks afloat, the Fed punishes those who have lived frugally and saved." And Bush's idea is to give MORE leeway to the fed. Has anyone seen a direct response by Ron Paul to the plan? Links would be appreciated. http://www.house.gov/paul/tst/tst2008/tst033008.htm Also, what are your thoughts on Ron Paul's comments, above? Seems Ron Paul will be on Glen Beck discussing this tomorrow night. Don't know how deep he'll be able to get in that forum, but glad he'll have the platform.

House rabbit advice? I'm looking for some advice on house rabbits. You know, what to do and what not to do etc. I'm a full time mum and we have 14 rabbits so I know how to look after rabbits and that, it's my over size Dwarf Lop Robbie who I'm thinking of making a house bunny. He is being neutered after xmas. He is so stressed in his hutch I even converted his hutch with the one underneath so he has a 2 tier but he's still paces. Vet said he should calm down after I get him done. But as he's so friendly and he's the only 1 of my rabbits that will come when called and go back in his hutch when let out for a run (has whole garden when I am supervising the chicken when they out of their coop) He gets on with our dog really well and so he'll have comapny when I'm out. I plan on getting a large dog crate for him and a litter tray. He will be in the crate at night and when I am out, not that i'm out for long as it's really only the school runs and shopping so 2 hours max in the day. Should I cover the crate with a blanket a night?? as I know rabbits don't like drafts. Does anyone know any good house rabbit websites?? I have looked on the Rabbit Welfare Fund site as it started out a site for house rabbits, I think. Are there anyothers you know?? Beds!! Do I get a fabric bed or a plastic 1?? He doesn't chew his hutch. Any advice would be great. xx He would be caged up! only at night and when I'm out for his own safety. I can't let him have the run of the garden in the day without me their as I have a veg patch at the end of my garden and he'll eat it all! Yes it's fenced off but he digs really well! mean to say he wouldn't be caged up.
