Looking for chicken coop designs/images and want to know what birds can and can't be together? I'm wanting to build an enclosed coop that is off the ground and fenced in. The coop will probably be placed in an area with a large 8' chain link fence on 2 of the sides and a building on another. I'm mainly trying to figure out how to make a roof and the coop. I'm also wanting to know if all these birds can live in the same area: chickens, ducks, guinea fowl, pheasants, and maybe turkeys. I'd like to make a coop with seperate sections for each bird species. How big of a coop should I have for a small number 3-4 of each type of bird? I do like some of the coop pictures I looked at with the nesting area stuck out some in the back with a roof that lifts up to get to the nests. I'd like to find more pictures of the insides of coops especially for ducks. I assume they would have to be made different. I'm currently living with my bf and his parents on their farm. I have plenty of supplies and aggreed to build the coop myself if his father would buy the birds. Thanks for the replies. My bf's dad has had chickens and turkeys before but were free to roam the whole farm. We have to many cats around and everyone doesn't want the turkeys runnin loose since they got attacked by them. The guinea fowl and pheasants my bf's dad was thinking about them. I mainly prefer chickens and definitely ducks/geese. With the chain link fencing if I put a different type of wire (smaller holes) and dug down 1-2 feet and had a couple feet above the ground would that help avoid predators digging in and also reaching the birds? There are a few other farms around that raise different types of birds for pets that I can ask some information about the birds. As far as babies we will be removing them to an incubator. I was thinking about 5 nest boxes for chickens/ducks each. Probably have 2 females and 1 male each. I'll probably make the coop so I can add extra nests if needed. I'll tell my bf's dad about the other fowl so we can wait or build a seperate coop later on.
I need help with biulding a chicken coop!? I want a coop that kind of looks like a small cute house but is big enough for plenty of chickens. I found some pictures online but no actual blue print designs and that's what im needing. Anyone know any good web sites?
chicken coop question, please answer!! 10 pnts to best answer!? I have already asked this quesiton but NOBODY gave me a specific answer. I need to know how many hens (chickens) can fit in this coop comfortably at night, just to stay in at night. They are full size hens, like barred rocks, wyandottes, welsummers, araucanas, sussex, and buff Orpington. The coop size is 5' (60") wide at the nesting boxes, 4'-7" (55") tall, and 7'-2" (86") deep. There is a total of 12 nesting boxes. Here is a picture, but the coop that I am talking about is longer and has more nesting boxes, but It will give you an idea of what it looks like. Also I am going to add panels on the front s othey dont get cold at night and the bottom of the coop won't be the mesh, just plywood. what size do you think my run should be? I want them to have as much room as possible but if you have 6-12 chickens what size is your run? thanks!!!! 10 points to best answer!! http://www.chickchalet.com/chickchalet_002.htm http://www.chickchalet.com/chickchalet_003.htm
I want some ideas on chicken coops? I want to get some ideas of old sheds or just metal scrap that has been turned into a chicken coop. Just reply with your own pictures, or pictures posted online of other peoples! Thanks
Chicken Tractor for 25 chickens? I need a plan or a picture of a portable chicken coop that can hold 25 chickens. I told my farm boss it's gonna be hard to find but he isn't listening. Anywho, I don't want a list of sites or magazines I can look in, I've already done that. I need the plans or a picture, not a place to look. I've been looking everywhere, I need some results. Much Thanks.
(Chicken keepers/breeders/caretakers) Pet Chickens? I'm thinking about getting some chickens, so right now I'm reading about chickens and researching on them. I'm currently on "MyPetChicken" reading the chapters, but I'd love to hear what you chicken keepers have to say, your personal experiences with them, what you do or recommend, discourage, etc etc. Where I live, chickens are allowed to be kept I believe... two homes in my neighborhood have chickens. I have a big backyard, here is a picture of it: http://img11.yfrog.com/img11/23/1024214.jpg I also have a tree house (big enough that my 4 family members can fit in it) that I'm willing to change into a chicken coop for them. If I do get chickens, what kind should I get? I look forward to eating their eggs. Its the number one reason why I want some, I've seen what goes on in factory farms with the hens... I've also seen the so called "cage-free" & "free-range"... its so horrible so I don't eat eggs (and yes I'm a vegetarian if you're wondering). Is it okay to have just females and no males? Which chickens are the best layers? How long do they lay if they're healthy? What are the most common illness in them? Are they just as lovable as dogs, cats & other animals if you have the patient and love with them? Should I get them while they're chicks or full grown? Sorry for so many questions, but I want to know this stuff before owning some :) Oh, and how high can they fly?
I have a picture I took several years ago,Is this a ghost? http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i162/dawnw1000/ghost1.jpg Some say yes, some say no. What do you see? Info on the picture: I was taking random pictures of the property I had purchased. In the pic. you can see my dog, and the chicken coop(through "whatever" that is in the picture). Nope, no smoking. But, that's a legit question. Thanks for answering (and questioning) Candy: I lived on the property for 2 years. During that time, amny "strange" things did indeed happen. Little marble sized whitish lights would go back and forth in the hallway and into my bedrrom. My husband and I got to the point where we'd just say,"you see 'em too, right?" After a while we would just ignore them. Also, the back bedrrom was always cold. The rest of the house was screaming hot. )This was in Florida). We lived next to the Corkscrew Swamp Sancuary. Our property was the border. Jamie, if you would like further info, please feel free to email and I can give you more. Address, etc. Thanks. The people who I have shown the picture to see several different things. I won't share those right now because I want to hear what you all see and think about this. I do have the negitives from the entire roll. No digital stuff. Real film. Many of you are so through with your answers. I did have the picture along with the entire roll of film, plus my camera and the negatives analysed by 3 professional photographers. No-one has an explaination. We moved after 2 years due to so many unexplained things happening. Nothing that we felt would harm us, I don't believe in that, but just too many strange things that happened there. I was standing outside, in the driveway, so no scrath in the window. No scratch on the lens. Just a point and shoot camera. The picture was taken in Naples Florida. Next to Corkscrew Swamp Santuary, off Immokelee Road by Golden Gate Estates. Mr. Spooky: The description you have given is very similar to what others have seen. The house was not in anyway over a septic, or well that would influence the temp of the interior. My husband is an ac/heating installer. He had a inferered thermo temp reader. Looks like a price scanner. We scanned the outside of the house, full sun overhead. All readings the same. Went inside and the living/dining room/bedromm(ours) bathroom and hall. All same temp. Back bedroom 20 degrees cooler. No tree for shade there. Jitter: of coarse it crossed our minds after we developed the film. But, why move and sell based on a picture. Nothing happened where we felt any harm, just strange happenings. The little marble sized lights, cold spots, the picture, lights turning off. (let me clarify) We had montion detecores all over the property. Due to the amount of alligators in the water around our property. The m.d.s would come on and off at random. As in quick on/quick off after we had them set to stay lite for a min. of 10 minutes after something set them off. We had numerous electritions, and security folks out to try and fix it. Nada.
Is this a big enough hutch/run for 2 rabbits? Please read? (pic)? Hi. I might be getting 2 rabbits- A mini lop, and a netherland dwarf. I will first get the mini lop, and a couple of months later I will get the netherland dwarf and 'bond' them, so they are friends. I was wondering would this cage/run be big enough for them? It says its a chicken coop, but it can also be used for rabbits and guinie pigs. here it is: http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.ideas-4-pets.com/articles/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/rs709_crop.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.ideas-4-pets.com/articles/hen-house/&usg=__vHRhtScvBlksbmWr96BB2lRUP6I=&h=298&w=400&sz=46&hl=en&start=8&um=1&tbnid=kI79410mLVwcFM:&tbnh=92&tbnw=124&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dpoultry%2Bhen%2Bhouse%2Bchicken%2Bcoop%2Brabbit%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26um%3D1 There are more pictures on this page if you scroll down: http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.ideas-4-pets.com/articles/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/rs709_crop.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.ideas-4-pets.com/articles/hen-house/&usg=__vHRhtScvBlksbmWr96BB2lRUP6I=&h=298&w=400&sz=46&hl=en&start=8&um=1&tbnid=kI79410mLVwcFM:&tbnh=92&tbnw=124&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dpoultry%2Bhen%2Bhouse%2Bchicken%2Bcoop%2Brabbit%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26um%3D1 Thanks for answering! and another (?) What do you use for the bottom of the rabbit hutch. I am planning on using hay for the bedding, and for them to eat some too, but I dont know if i should use straw or wood shavings for the main part. And can I use newspaper for the litter tray. I will litter train them so it is easier to clean
My dog killed my chicken. Please help? A few days ago, my dog bit my chicken, killing her. I feel really sorry for my chicken, and really sad about it. I'm also a little bit mad at the dog, but it's not his fault. All dogs like chickens and want them badly. It's in their blood. My grandma and my brother both think we should give away my dog or sell him, but I don't want to. But now I have to decide if I want him to stay and I get no chickens, or I give the dog away to get chickens. Because soon our two baby chicks will grow up and I have to put them outside. But then the dog will just bite them. Should I just chain him up most of the time? Or let the chicken's be cooped up in their coop most of the time? And I feel really sad about our chicken. I try to forget about it, but her blood stains are still on the cement outside and her feathers are all over. And my brother forgot to take a picture of her so now I'll forget what she looks like. I feel like crying every time I think about her, but not in the public. Thanks all. Now I'm not that sad about losing my chicken, however I want chickens and I want the dog too. I didn't buy the dog so I can have a pet, I just found him on my lawn and I wanted to keep him. My chicken hasn't even layed any eggs, it was just five months old. I think I'll keep my dog until my chicks grow up and then I'll give him to my neighbor if she wants him. Thanks again, I'm having a hard time choosing best answer. Just a few more days 'til best answer sorry for the long wait.
I want the theme of this story... (so I wont forget) author will lozier.. ? Will Lozier So I won't Forget It's almost a year since this happened . But the other day I got to thinking about it again and decided to write it down on paper. That way, when I get older, I can read it over and keep it fresh in my memory. I was only a freshman then, and miss Allen, who taught our English class, gave us an assignment in composition which, for kids of our age_ most of us were anywhere between thirteen and fifteen_ seemed kind of childish. She asked us to go home and write a composition about anything or anybody we wanted to. She said we could describe the house where we lived, or our back yard. Or tell about our father and mother, or anybody we were interested in. I decided I would write a composition about my father, and this is what I wrote: My father was a tall man, I don't know exactly, but I guess he must have been several inches more than six feet. He wasn't fat, but he looked big and strong all over. I wouldn't write all this down, Miss Allen, but you told us to describe the person we selected to write about , so here goes. He had black hair and black eyes. His eyes seemed to look right through a guy, and they seemed to say, "you're my kid, Johnny, and I'm your Pa. When you grow up and I'm dead, don't forget you are a piece of me, just like the land you live on is a piece of God's world" He never wore store clothes, my PA didn't; and the day we got in the pick-up truck on our ranch and started for Wagon rim he was dressed like he always was. He had a loose belt slung around his middle, high heels boots like most everybody wears, and the cuffs of his levis were trucked into the top of his boots. "Johnny, "he said when we came around the last bend before we got into the town, "your Ma has been pestering me to have a picture taken. Just to keep her satisfied, suppose we go to the photo store and let them take a picture of you." "Aw, Pa, "I said, "I ain't dressed for it" "Don't worry about that, "Pa said. We drove on into Wagon Rim and Pa drew up in front of Marberry's Picture Gallery. Mr. Marberry was right glad to see us. Seems like Ma had called him up and told him Pa was coming to town to have his ohotograph taken. First off, he tried to persuade Pa to pose for a picture. But Pa said, "I'm getting on in years, Mr. Marberry, and it ain't nothing but a vanity and a sin for a man to get puffed up in his old age. You take a picture of Johnny here, and everybody will be satisfied." Mr. Marberry told Pa how much it was going to cost, and Pa took the money out of his pocket and laid it on Mr. Marberry's desk. Then Mr. Marberry had me sit in a straight backed chair, and made me look over to one side and smile. I guess he didn't like the way I did it because he took three or four more pictures. We got out of there, and Pa bought a roll of chicken-coop write and a couple of other things we needed for the ranch. He bought Ma a set of red curtains for the kitchen, and bought me an ice cream soda. Afterwards he stopped at the tobacco shop and got himself a package of Bull Durham, and we started home. He didn't speak to me all the way home so I had plenty of chance to watch him. His jaw stuck out a little, and I thought it stuck out because he was getting ready to meet any argument Ma might put up on account of his not having his picture taken. His hat sat on the back of his head, which let the black of his hair seem even blacker in the sunlight. There were plenty of patches of gray, but they didn't seem to count because he was so big and strong. "I sure enjoyed that rip into the town with you, Pa, "I said. "you didn't enjoy it any more than I did, Johnny. "He started straight ahead down the sandy road. When he spoke a gain his voice was ;ow and kind of sad. "I hope you and I will always be good pals, even when you grow up and I'm a real old man." I took hold of his right arm and squeezed it. "That's the way I want it too, Pa, "I said . When we got almost home he said, "Johnny, if your mother is real mad at me for not getting my picture taken, we'll go into town next Saturday and attend to it. Only, let's you and me both try and talk her out of the idea." "Why are you so set against having your picture taken, Pa?" I asked him. "It's kind of hard to explain, son. "He said. "I guess every man has a superstition of some sort, like not wanting to walk under a ladder, or getting out of his way to miss walking across the trail of a black cat. That's the way I feel about taking pictures. I never had one taken, and unless your Ma is too all powerful, I never will." He looked sort of apologetic as we drove up the road toward home. Right at that moment, I bet he would have let a camera shoot right through him, even if the camera were loaded with machine gun bullets. "I should have a haircut, "he said. "I need a shave, too. I ought to be ashamed of myself for expecting you and your Ma to put up with an old tramp like me." I looked up at him, and honest, I never saw as handsome a man

Where did Kate get the Strawberry Rhinestone shirt she wears in the last episode of Kate plus 8? She wore it in the episode of the chicken coop. I have a site that posts a picture of it http://justjared.buzznet.com/2010/07/07/kate-gosselin-rules-the-roost/ If you don't know where she got it maybe a name of the designer that makes it. My wife really wants the shirt so I am trying to find it for her. Any help would be much appreciated. Okay I believe I found the company !! I don't think that shirt is in print anymore. the company is called Primp. You can find a tank in the strawberry on ebay. Probably a knockoff from some posts I read. Other styles of her shirt different designs can be found in this http://www.thefind.com/apparel/browse-primp-clothing They need to add a feature where I can answer my own question! Okay I found the actual one! http://www.elitedepot.com/servlet/the-2042/primp-tops%2C-shop-primp%2C/Detail

Christians...I usually have to stay away from the unthinkable...but how have you reconciled? a hope in the mercy of God and humanity when these kind of things do happen? I watched the move "changeling"( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0824747/ ) based on the true story of the Wineville Chicken Coop Murders ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wineville_Chicken_Coop_Murders ). As a mother I can't imagine( it is beyond my comprehension) to think my child....let a lone any child...could bare to suffer through such things. I can understand to some degree how disturbed persons can get to a point of "past feeling" and become subject to do unspeakable things....but where I have a hard time is IF the innocent are left to suffer such a degree of horror. About four years ago....there was a year where I could not escape the burden of sorrow and the heart felt pain for all those that go through horrible sufferings. The images always flashing in my head with a run of emotions I can't describe. Well...In order to regain any kind of inner peace in my life.. I had to stop reading, watching, and talking about such news when those kind of events would go public. I know LOVE conquers all. Doing what we can about what is unjust or inhumane is a sure way to access a greater peace of mind and happiness. I also hope in the atonement of Christ for many reasons. When I was burdened by such things I was meditating and sincerely asking God to give me some sort of understanding to such horrific suffering. What opened up in my mind is a very comforting thought. According to the love of God and through the atonement of Christ...all suffering is picked up by Christ when a person's ability to cope has reached a point where it would serve no purpose for good or in other words would be unmerciful. The picture I got was that a person's body still goes through the motions from an unthinkable event but the spirit (the person) is pulled out of the situations(body) and spared from the act at hand. That was the impression I got. Is it true or not? Idk...but I hope it is. Does anyone out there have any personal experience on this matter? I know our minds are naturally set to have coping mechanisms in times of great stress...but would it not be grand if what goes on behind the scene of horrific suffering is a hug from LOVE on the other side? I do realize there is a lot of conscious suffering that seem merciless and maybe it is....but what if suffering in all its variety does serve some kind of unknown or unseen purpose for good? I know I have learned a great deal from suffering...I am a more compassionate person then I use to be. I can see the wisdom in suffering...but something like the true story I posted is...so unreal! It is hard to know. Thank you all for your compassionate answers. I really enjoyed reading all you have said.
I need a name for my new mouse? I have an orphan juvenile mouse. They were in a chicken coop, under a feed container (about 12 total in a nest, found another nest with about 6 later on) and the chickens killed ALL but two (one got away) and my barn cat killed the momma. So I now have this "fuzzy" as I've been calling it. She loves to run on her wheel and she likes apple. We were thinking Molly or Amelia, but I would LOVE more suggestions. I named it Otis, but I think she's a girl..... I have a video of her, but I'm waiting for it to upload. Here is a picture: http://i940.photobucket.com/albums/ad248/tylirthetiger/Mobile%20Uploads/0730101731-00.jpg She is dark grey with a light brown tummy. She has one white paw. Weird stuff found in 1970-80's jar of vinegar??? My friend and I went down to this old abandoned barn that appeared to be a chicken coop, in the back there was ths old room, with beds, clothes etc the dates varried from 1975-1980 on the counter there was this old jar filled with dark liquid, we poured it out and it seemed to be full of vinegar, in the vinegar there were two organ-like things... no idea what it could be... any ideas? click on the link below to view the picture. Thanks! http://s278.photobucket.com/albums/kk93/bri1865/ No...it wasn't hollow, it was scary though lol ewww actually, it may have been hollow... gee idk its really hard to tell lol and I didn't touch it
Anyone have plans for a run in shed? I am building a 12 ft by 12ft run in shed for 2 minis and possibly going to add a chicken coop on to it. Does any one have any plans to make a cheap run-in. I am buying rough cut lumber from a local mill and it has been a debate of have many boards to buy. I am not going to sink the post into the ground since it is frozen, I already have to torch the ground to put electric fence poles in. Also would you use wire or tape electric fence. So does anyone have plans to build a 12' x 12' run is shed with a pitched roof or a picture to give me an idea.
posessed caw? calf reincarnation? Schizofrenic caw? What do you think of this? Chicken Eating Calf From the News: "We were shocked to see our calf eating chickens alive," Ghosh told Reuters by phone from Chandpur village. The family decided to stand guard at night on Monday at the cow shed which also served as a hen coop, after 48 chickens went missing in a month. "Instead of the dogs, we watched in horror as the calf, whom we had fondly named Lal, sneak to the coop and grab the little ones with the precision of a jungle cat," Gour Ghosh, his brother, said. Local television pictures showed the cow grabbing and eating a chicken in seconds and a vet confirmed the case. "We think lack of vital minerals in the body is causing this behavior. We have taken a look and have asked doctors to look into the case immediately," Mihir Satpathy, a district veterinary officer, said by phone.
Are we prepared to keep chickens? Some questions? I asked this last night, but unfortunately did not get any answers. My mom has a friend who is giving us some eggs that we can raise up into chickens. She gave a great and informative book that i'm reading. She also gave us an automatic egg turner and an incubator. What else do we still need? I know a coop. Can you give me some designs or maybe pictures of your own coop?! Are they loud? I know roosters are louder than hens. Thanks to everyone who answers.
Just A Few Questions About Chickens...? OK so i live like right on the town/country line for my town and i have a fairly big yard. I really want to get a few chickens, plymouth rocks to be exact, but my parents are saying no. My dad did not even let me say more than "hey dad can I.." and he was like"No!" before i even finished my sentence. so i am trying to get more info so i can try to convince them to let me. PLease answer the fallowing questions with their corresponding number. thanks 1) Do chickens smell really bad? 2) How much space does a small flock, like 5 hens and maybe a rooster need? 3) Can i just use a rooster from another flock and put him in with my hens if i want chicks? 4) How much does it cost to get these kinds of chickens? 5) Is this breed very friendly? 6) Is this breed very quiet? 7) Is it easy to care for chickens? 8) The best coop? 9) Where can i get these kind of chicks? 10) A good way to get my parents to accept having chickens and let me get them? 11) Any other helpful advise? OK so i also need pictures of the best coop and yard. I live in town so they would be unable to be loose in my yard. ALso how can i convince my parents to let me get even just a few hens. i want to do this in a responsible way not just going behind their backs or something. please i want them to enjoy having the chickens too. Any other helpful advice that you have learned would be awesome! thanks so much, FFA Girl Also what is good quiet breed for keeping in town? I like these ones that are kinda yellowy gold but i don't know the breed or anything about them. A calm friendly quiet breed is what i really need. Also ones that are good layers but can double as a meat breed. Also what do you do with them in the winter. I live in Wisconsin so i dont think they could stay outside. would i have to build the coop part big enough to house them in the winter full time inside? PLease try to answer the questions. I also found that the golden ones i like are called buff plymouth rocks. :) i really like those and i found a site where i can buy just 10. i will give 3 away. but i really need my parents to agree! please help me out?
Would you like Gecko with your egg's...........? Cook finds gecko in chook egg 15May08 EGGS-CEPTIONAL: Dr Peter Beaumont with the fully-formed gecko he found inside a supermarket-bought egg. Picture: JULIANNE OSBORNE A QUIET Sunday dinner has turned into an eggs-traordinary mystery. Dr Peter Beaumont, 60, was cooking Thai fishcakes for dinner when he found a fully formed gecko inside an egg shell. He believes the discovery may be a world first and may help solve a food poisoning puzzle. "I was cracking the eggs into a pan when I noticed one of them was all cloudy. "I looked at the shell and saw a tiny gecko.'' Dr Beaumont said the lizard had not got into the shell after he had discarded it because the reptile was embedded between the inner-shell and the egg's membrane. He said the gecko may have crawled into the chicken to feast on an embryo -- and got stuck. The egg then formed around the lizard. "If you open up a dead chook, you sometimes see the partly-formed eggs,'' he said. "The gecko could have been looking for a feed and got trapped.'' Dr Beaumont said eggs sometimes contained salmonella, a potentially fatal food poisoning often carried by other lizards. "Maybe this happens all the time,'' he said. "Maybe geckos regularly crawl inside chickens for a feed. "And this one was unlucky enough to get stuck in an egg.'' Dr Beaumont bought the egg from a Darwin supermarket. He took it to health experts yesterday. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ads By GoogleAustralian Poultry Wiki Comprehensive online resource for commercial meat and egg production www.poultryhub.org Gotta Getta Gecko Gecko Phone Mobile Phone for Mobile Kids www.geckoworld.com.au Beautiful Feet by PedEgg Stop Wasting Money At Nail Salons PedEgg Removes Rough Callused Skin GlobalShopDirect.com.au Related Articlesweather Darwin Fine and sunny. Can someone help me? (chicken help?)? I got 4 hens. 2 I got last year which turned out to be 2 Rhode Island Reds, and they follow me like a dog, and when i call them they usually come. and I just got 2 barred rocks (one is all black, so idk what it is? but it's supposably a barred rock) and they are suppose to be 2 hens as well, which i think they are? but there only 4 months old, so i still don't know for sure.. but there both so afraid of me! and i even had them in the house when i first got them, and spent everyday with them for at least an hour at least! but they always had a fear of me and everyone else. i literally hand fed them both, and they know who feeds them. I have a dog kennel That i let them run in everyday because they run from me otherwise, and i put them away in their coops at night (which i keep in my garadge so nothing gets them) so that's a problem when i go to put them away. but i even try to spend time with them in there and they stay as far away from me as possible. what can i do to get them to like me, and come to me when i need them to? thanks! oh and additionally, does anyone know what that black one could be? it is mostly black, and has like, some brown in the front of it. and some of the feathers look like they are a fishbowl greenish? but it doesn't look like a barred rock to me. i'll try to take a picture of her tomorrow! thanks!
Thinking about vegetarianism, looking for more info about our food system....? Ok, here is my question....I recently watched the movie "Food Inc", and have done a lot of other kinds of research into the way animals are treated in the US food industry. Having said this, I am very confused about one thing...here is the backstory, as briefly as possible. I grew up on a farm, and just moved to the US 2 years ago. (I am originally from Nelson, New Zealand) As a child, we had many animals, from chickens to cows, even a few pigs that we used to help clean the fields up from the cows grazing. In short, I easily think that we produced 70% of our own food, and nearly all of our own meat. I helped to care for our animals, from taking our cocker spanial out to get the chickens into the coop to milking the cows, even helping to slaughter them when it came time. I always felt that we had a respect for our animals. They had names, were able to roam free on the pastures, minus our keeping them in designated tracts to prevent overeating the grass in a particular area. They lived for a few years before slaughter, and our pigs were normally not slaughtered until they were old enough to aquire joint problems or cataracts (suprisingly, very common in pigs)....I think you get the picture. With all of this in mind, I know I thought along with many others that a farm like my childhood was were my meat came from. I know that this must be a stretch to a degree, but after seeing that movie and doing some reading, I feel like I have been lied to. I read about the CAFO's, the chicken lots, etc...my question is this: What would be a good guess as to the percentage of our food that is produced this way? Is it restricted to certain vendors. I.E. fast food, big chains, etc? Is this kind of thing an isolated blip in an otherwise more "my farm" kind of ranching? What % of cows, especially for dairy, are fed only corn.(That sounds impossible...my cows used to stop eating corn after a few days if no grass was offered. Plus a dairy cow lives a LONG time).... Please help with any info or insights you might have. Thank you!!!
Not sure if I posted it right last time. Please comment? If I had to explain every line of what I write, it would take me forever. True Vogan(the begining) To have a begining that starts at the end, is like turning round to find an old friend. So back to the begining you I shall send. At the start, we think we are smart, putting the horse before the cart. To smile when you cry, to the heavens you do fly. Rising, falling, is that you calling. Sitting, seems quite fitting, when doing the knitting. There is a dog being chased by a cat, watch out, brick wall, splat. Come in and join the fray, tis ok now to play. To and fro, do not know, where im meant to go. Long way getting slow, hurry up body please do grow. Show the doubters they can not crow. Seeing a picture and writing a book, looking at your face is all it took. With pleasure your body shook, as you started to cook, here chock chock. Growing, showing, never slowing. As a baby always glowing. Going to play group, having soup, feeling like a chicken in its coop.
What kind of chicks do I have? Need help identifying chickens!? I bought 6 little chicks at a feed store on my way home. I know nothing about them, except research I've done. I bought them a chicken waterer & feeder, 2 bags of starter food, and a temporary cage, which they have like 20 times more room now. I got 3 different kinds. 2 of each. I don't have a way of uploading pictures right now, since we moved & my camera is packed somewhere....so I'll describe them. Okay the first 2 are just pale yellow color, like a standard chick....You know how when you think of a baby chicken, you think a little yellow one...yeah thats them! Orange feet & beak. The next 2 are black & white. 1 is almost completely black, except under belly, and chest area that is white. They even have black on their beaks. Their feet are greyish colored. I know the sign said they were called Black something. The last 2 I remember are Rhode Island Reds....Pretty positive thats what the sign said & from pictures I've seen. So they were all $2.95, so I know they aren't some fancy expensive chickens, and the store had like 100. Please help me identify them! I want to look up more information about them. We are building a 12'x12'x12' pen for them, and getting a coop delivered Wednesday. We love these little guys! Oh yeah and the store said they were all females. Thanks
what to do with chickens? well me my dad and bros are going to manchester tomorrow till Sunday to stay with my auntie. Problem is we have our hen and cockerel in the garden. We lock them in our hen house at night as we have already had chickens killed at night so its a must do thing lol. But there is no light , food or water in the hen house. we normally let them roam the garden in the daytime but obv cant as they will be out all night and most likely be eaten. This is the coop. http://s460.photobucket.com/albums/qq322/livvyz123/chickens/? action=view¤t=coop.jpg As you can see the hens are sitting in the coop (which we also shut) and the house is the bit at the end. there is a latch so you can lock them in that certain bit which is safe. (we changed the locks ,the one in the picture was the one tht the fox was able to open) but there is a drop down latch on the hen house so you can shut them in (this is safest for ours due to the fox who can open the old latch, we have a new stiffer one but we still worry) but we could leave it open. however our coop is a bit smaller but it has their food and water in. im just worried about their safety. Would they be alright in just the hen house from 11am Saturday mornin till around 12;30pm Sunday afternoon. They have nice soft bedding and a perch in the house , we could put food and water in but they would knock it over in the dark and not be able to find it. Any help PLEASE.. im worried as i (L) my chickens OH BTW; we have no neighbours or near friends to help and the cockerel is wild and agressive to others and if someone else interfears he goes mad and flys ove the fence or just ignores you. LOL helpful i know! does this link work? http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq322/livvyz123/chickens/coop.jpg
Called Children Protection , Did i do the right ting? I did one of the most hardest thing in my life, i called my sister into CS two days ago. Reason being she has four girls and i worry for them dearly and want to see them all get help. As for why i feel i should've called here's some issue going on in the house Dad is a truck driver never home three of the kids are on school only one is home all day with her. Mom got angry one day that the house was a mess and kids where watching tv so she tore the tv, cable box outta the wall in front of all of them and threw it and broke it. Mom and Dad constantly argue always in front of the kids one incident led to my sister getting so mad that the kid closest to her she beat on and dad saw it and didn't stop it, kid tells me momma does it all the time to me only because she knows i'll forgive her. Thrid kid whom is 6 she tells she hates her because she doesn't listen to her mother she's a major daddy's girl Oldest is 12 and is the only one with a different father that hasn't been in the picture much and when she ask to contact him mom's repsonse is no shut up go to your room your grounded. Also the 12 year old with her teenage attidue gave her dad a rolling eye look and he threw a stapler at her lucky it missed. Family has chickens and children go threw the coop barefoot sometimes and with shoes on and wear same shoes threwout the house litter box is in dining room but is always kept clean thanks to the dog eating it. Moms broke phone and threw it against a wall in front of kids after an argument with dad on the phone...for the second time House is cover in ants and sour milk order fills the girls room. two yougest sharing bed one still wets the best often sheets are cleaned but no like bed mat to catch the pee so it's soaking into the mattress 6 year old went to start kindergarten almost couldn't because she hadn't had shots since she was 12 months old oldest has a cavity very painful mom gave her something for the pain for a few days but never made an appt because she stop complaining about the pain (notes kids all have state health care ) Mom tells children she hates them calls them stupid and the B word. Mom will complain about their live in father and verbal abuse him in front of the children along with verbally abusing the children themselves Children are not regular showered oldest whom is 12 will shower everyday others i have to remind my sister to make sure they shower once a week. mom is lucky to shower once a week. There's much more I called CPS not because i want her to get in trouble i want her to get help i want the whole family to get help. Did i do the right thing? Did i just destory their family and emotionally reck the children now? Did i have any other options? More info i guess: She doesn't know that i called yet we spoke about issues in the house yestreday and she express that she won't get help she's trying the best she can she gets very defensive so i'm careful how i say things but there's always an excuse for every action she takes that's abuse to her family even beating her kid she says her hubby watched it and didn't stop her so it couldn't of been that bad... I don't know how to respond to that. it's like she doesn't get it Dad does konw that i called his repsonse I've emotionally destroyed his family now. I responded "you don't think how you guys treat those kids hasn't already done that anything i've done will just help them" and i ended it at that. to repsonde to MOI response THanks for your opinion but to add I do help my sister A LOT everyweekend i will take two of the four children. I attempt to babysit all four all the time so mom and dad can go on dates but dad always has an excuse not to go out. I"ve even given my sister my lexapro which is an pill to help with anixety which she said helped but won't go to the dr to get her own. I talk to her for an average of four hours a day to help her get threw whatever comes up next. I know they won't take the kids that wasn't my goal My goal was to get everyone in that house some helps if it cause me too lose my sister well atleast i know what i did was sincre i tried to help she's beyond the sort of help that i can offer that's why i called cps Hope this helps you understand more and lessen your thoughts on me calling CPS
Having trouble with Farm Life on Nintendo DS? Can anyone help? I get as far as buying the animals then can't put them into their homes. I am ok as far as buying the animals until the man asks where i want him to put the item. I have put the picture of the animal over the barn or coop and touch the tick with the stylus or press the A button. and nothing happens. Earlier, I managed to get one cow and one goat into their barns by chance, but don't know how. Now I am trying to buy some chickens, but although I have tried several times, no go. i have made sure the glove is in the box from the tool shed and have tried pressing the other buttons including L and R. Can anyone stop me climbing the wall, across the ceiling and down the other side wall? If not can anyone tell me how to contact ubisoft support team as this seems impossible too. Have tried several different email addresses. Thank you. Have read instruction booklet several times
why won't my chicks forage?!? I have 6 chicks (3 orpingtons, 2 americaunas, 1 kuku marans) about 2.5 months old. They've grown up in a pen in my basement, and since they have all their feathers and the weather is warm/mild, I've let them outside during the day for about a week now. They peck and scratch a bit outside - one even ate a spider today! - but for the most part, they just hang out all day. When I take them back to their home in the basement they attack the feed like they've been starving all day. I've tried scattering feed during the day to get them thinking about foraging, but it seems like they just concentrate on the feed and not the bigger picture of searching for food. Am I expecting too much of them at this point? Also a factor is that our Brittney Spaniel herds the chickens. *sigh* He does not hurt them, but he likes them to be all together. I've put him in the house for hours at a time, and when I check on the chicks they are usually all hanging out together as if he's still there. They seem fine with him being around; I've seen them go toward him if he's in the way of where they want to go and he shies away from them and lets them pass. I've never had chickens before, so I have no good feeling for what is "normal" and what isn't. They are quite docile and won't usually run from me. They have trained themselves (ha!) to gather around the pet carrier in the evenings, ready to head back to the basement. I can't complain about their behavior at all, except I feel like they shouldn't act like they're starving when they get to the feeder. Oh, and I feed them fruit scraps; they love oranges and watermelon. So I know they realize that other things qualify as food . . . Well, I could write all day about my chickens, but I'll just say thanks in advance to anyone who has suggestions. Oh, and the reason they're in the basement is because we are so rural we have bears, foxes, raccoons, and every other sort of predator, and I don't think my coop is predator proof yet. Thanks! Lora

What is this song about? Okay so I'm wondering if this song is about love or what? Maybe you'll have a better interpretation of the lyrics. It's called "passing me by" by The Pharcyde here are the lyrics... Now in my younger days I used to sport a shag When I went to school I carried lunch in a bag With an apple for my teacher cuz I knew Id getta kiss Always got mad when the class was dismissed But when it was in session, I always had a question I would raise my hand to make her stagger to my desk and help me with my problem, it was never much Just a trick, to smell her scent and try to sneak a touch Oh, how I wish I could hold her hand and give her a hug She was married to the man, he was a thug, His name was Lee, he drove a Z, he'd pick her up from school promptly at three o'clock I was on her jock, yes indeedy I wrote graffiti on the bus First I'd write her name then carve a plus, with my name last, on the looking glass, I seen her yesterday but still I had to let her pass She keeps on passin me by She keeps on passin me by She keeps on passin me by She keeps on pass When I dream of fairytales I think of me and Shelly See she's my type of hype and I can't stand when brothers tell me That I should quit chasin' and look for something better But the smile that she shows makes me a go-getter I haven't gone as far as asking if I could get with her I just play it by ear and hope she gets the picture I'm shootin for her heart, got my finger on the trigger She could be my broad, and I could be her nigga But, all I can do is stare Back as kids we used to kiss when we played truth or dare Now she's more sophisticated, highly edu-ma-cated not at all over-rated, I think I need a prayer to get in her boots and it looks rather dry I guess a twinkle in her eye is just a twinkle in her eye Although she's crazy steppin, I'll try to stop her stride Cause I won't have no more of this passin me by And I must voice my opinion of not even pretending she didn't have me Strung like a chicken, chase my tail like a doggie She was kind of like a star, thinking I was like a fan Dude, she looked good, down side: she had a man He was a rooty-toot, a nincompoop She told me soon your little birdie's gonna fly the coop She was a flake like corn, and I was born not to understand By lettin her pass I had proved to be a better man She keeps on passin me by She keeps on passin me by She keeps on passin me by She keeps on passin me Now there she goes again, the dopest Ethiopian And now the world around me be gets movin in slow motion whenever she happens to walk by why does the apple of my eye overlook and disregard my feelings no matter how much I try? Wait, no, i did not really pursue my little princess with persistance And I was so low-key that she was unaware of my existance From a distance I desired, secretly admired her Wired her a letter to get her, and it went: My dear, my dear, my dear, you do not know me but I know you very well Now let me tell you about the feelings I have for you When I try, or make some sort of attempt, I symp Damn I wish I wasn't such a wimp! Cuz then I would let you know that I love you so And if I was your man then I would be true The only lying I would do is in the bed with you Then I signed sincerely the one who loves you dearly, PS love me tender The letter came back three days later: Return to Sender Damn! She keeps on passin me by..
