Does a chicken egg incubator need a cover? I made a homemade chicken incubator for the chicken eggs I recently got. I also got an incubator that holds 3 eggs. The incubator that I bought seems to keep the heat in better than the homemade one but both thermometers read 100 F. How long can a fertilized chicken egg be without an incubator or a chicken's warmth? I found a chicken egg and I had it for at most a week. Will this chicken egg incubator work? OK I took a big cardboard box, and put a heating pad on the bottom of the box. Then I took a old towel and placed over the heating pad. I also took a lamp (its like a big metal one but not the kind you use for reading) and clipped onto the side of the box. Will this work? I'm trying to hatch chicken eggs. How do you know if the eggs are still alive and not rotten? I've been trying to hatch chicken eggs in an incubator for about two weeks. Last week, i left the chickens for the weekend, and when i came back, the light bulb went out. I was just wanting to hatch one, I had a baby chick that was my pet and a chicken hawk ate her, so I wanted to try without a incubator, because I can't afford one. and i would like to have another one for a pet. I know it sounds strange but someone has had to of tried it.

Some of my incubated chicken eggs have peeped, but have not hatched after 24 hours. Is this normal? One of the chicks died in the shell after it had peeped about 3 hours earlier. I have a LG still air incubator with an auto egg turner. I have 6 chickes that have already hatched, but about 6 others that are just peeping after 24 hours. I do not want to remove them from their shells and risk losing them.
How do you Tie Die a Chicken? It is my understanding that the bast way to do it is while they're stil in the egg and then put them into the incubator. What types of die work best? Does it even work?

Can electrical storms result in the failure of chicken eggs to hatch? My mother used to say that when there were lots of electrical storms it could result in a bad hatch - the chicks would die before hatching. She said it was the nitrogen put in the air from lightening. We have had many electrical storms and the eggs in my incubator did not hatch, neither did the ones put under a setting hen at the same time. Could it be that my mother was right? I can find no reference to this theory on the Internet. Has anyone else heard of this? Is it scientifically possible that the lightening storms killed the chicks before they hatched? Comments and observations please.....
