building a reptile incubator, help please? im building a reptile incubator, i have the polystyrene box, it is quite big. i got it from a pet shop that used it to carry fish in it. i have put a heat mat at the bottom, and ive made holes in the box for the racks to go in so the containers with eggs can sit on it. theres also a bowl of water underneath the rack system which i placed in the middle, the one problem im having is i need to get a thermostat to check the tempreture, and i was looking on a website where i got the idea to build a incubator from, and it said "connect the heat pad to the thermostat" but how do you exactly connect them? if you want to look at the website its here http://www.albinvega.com/pdf/incubator.pdf. p.s i havent got a thermostat yet, but i wanted to know if some connect to heat pads and if some dont. thanks.

juragon reptile incubator, help please? im going to buy a juragon reptile incubator, and i just wanted to know a few things about it, from people who have actually got/had one. 1.what ever medium you use to put inside, will the humidity keep it moist? 2.which medium works best in the juragon/hatching the eggs?(im from uk so some mediums we might not have) 3.for the 3 hours that the juragons tempreture changes, is it needed for leopard gecko eggs? and can those 3 hours be turned off so the tempreture will stay the same throughout the day? 4.will the juragon have to be kept on 24 hours a day for the eggs to hatch? or is there a certain time it has to be turned off thank you for all that answer, much apreciated.

I have made my own reptile incubator but i never seem to be able to hatch any leopard geckos? I previously had 2 leopard gecko eggs.. i know they were fertile but my cleaner kicked the incubator by accident while i was otu of the house and i didnt notice the eggs had rolled until too late. But now 6 months on, i have 6 more leopard gecko eggs but they all just seem yellow inside(with 1 or 2 small veins). They never seem to be fertile anymore.. any idea what i could do to make sure i get fertile eggs?

Reptile fridge incubator conversion? I need a little advice, I have converted an old drinks fridge into an incubator, using habistat thermostat and an 100 watt inferred heat lamp, I wired the thing and done a test run, all seemed good all be it some sagging on the top inside, I deducted it could not handle the temperature so I got some tin foil and made like a heat reflector, I fixed the tin foil using adhesive glue and done another test run for half an hour, this time there was no smell of burning and the sagging appears to have stopped, just wondering if you think this will be safe to use now? Why do you Incubate Reptile Eggs? K so I have a reptile egg Incubator and I was just wondering, why do you need an Incubator? In the wild all the reptiles rely on is the sun, so why the moisture and fans and all this other stuff? To me, it seems like some damp sand and a light heating the surface to about 120 or so would be fine. So ya, why is it needed? I think it may just be to increase survival rate and percent. Please note the 120 temp listed above is for Above ground, with the natural lay approach the eggs will be nearly a foot down and possibly covered by 6 inches of solid substrate and then the hole opening however much she puts over top, so where the eggs actually are will only be about 85. Sorry about the misunderstanding.

would this be affecting the leopard gecko eggs? our females are laying eggs and we know at least one of them is fertile b/c one of her eggs hatched.but the baby died at three weeks old :( but for some reason none of the others have hatched! we have a reptile incubator from randall burkey and the temp is set at around 82 degrees F. they are in peat moss. would the peat moss possibly have anything in it that would be poisoning the eggs? all of the eggs so far except the one that hatched have moulded at odd times,either right after being layed or after they should have hatched. this is very confusing and VERY annoying. there is no one i know personally to ask for advice who can come over and see whats wrong. could the girls be killing the eggs when they bury them? i have seen them and others kicking their eggs when they bury them. would this kill the eggs or not? do you think i should put the female who hasn't produced any fertile eggs in with the male and see if they mate. but he has tried to mate b4 and he left a bad mark on her shoulder and he had done it a few times b4 but he only left a mark once. do you think i should? what are we doing wrong? is there anything you could think of that we might be doing wrong? thanks

What does the red light on a hovabator incubator mean? i just got a hovabator incubator for my reptile eggs yesterday, i am letting it heat itself up and sit for about 2 days before i put the eggs in....i am wondering what the red light on the top means, when i first plugged it in the light was on, a couple minutes later it went off...what does that mean? ......i only had it on for about 2 minutes when the light went off and the temp is still climbing. never mind i figured it out i just had to increase the temp like 5 turns then the light came back on.

Wax Paper for Snake Egg Incubator? Reptile keepers I'm looking for wax paper for a homemade incubator for snake eggs. Does anyone know where and if there is one made for reptiles. Any ideas need it for clutch of rat snake eggs for this years clutch. I have the Styrofoam box tried to incubate eggs with no luck. Been told to cut a square on lid and wax paper over hole with small aquarium inside with water heater and water 6inches. This is what i'm trying to do below. Styrofoam box with a Small aquarium with vermiculite inside it (wet the vermiculite squeeze it out) and place the end of the probe in it, I use the same thermometer (indoor/out), in the small aquarium to read the temp and humidity in it. Fill the cooler about 3 inches of water or enough to cover the heater, put a brick on the small aquarium so it will not float. Put the aquarium heater in the water, the heater is preset to 83-85-degs.the water in the cooler will heat the small aquarium. I put a hole in the top of the cooler to let out the excess heat and moister. Use wax paper to put over the hole and a book on top of it to keep the paper in place. I left about a inch hole too open it or close it, to get the temp set in the cooler. I use a digital thermometer in the lid to catch the over all temp in the box, if its to hot pull the wax paper open to let out the heat, once you get the opening set

leopard gecko egg questions? ok so on the 16th my leopard gecko had laid her 1st set of eggs i just came back from vacation { on the 14 , and they was staying with my mom } so i diddnt even no she was preg , but on the 16 when i went to go clean out there cage i seint 2 eggs my boyfriend and i was running around like chickens with are heads cut off trying to figure out what to do we 1st called some vets listed in the phone book for reptiles they said use a incubator i asked yahoo answers they said a incubator would kill them . I figured the vet knew what she was talking about so i went and bought 1 and then i looked on the internet how to set up a incubater and i follewed what it said and , last night i started smelling something rotted and looked at the eggs and i guess we did something wrong . so in the future when my baby lays eggs what should i do please be exact because i've searched the internet all day and cant find what i need to know she is only 11 months please help i want heer to have healthy babies . p.s. if it helps the temp in there was 81.3 the whole time please tell me what to do should i use the incubator or not {its a chicken 1} dont knoe the diff IM NOT BREEDING THEM WHEN I BOUGHT THEM FROM THE STORE WHEN THEY WAS BABIES I HAPPENED TO GET A MALE AND FEMALE AND I DONT WANT TO SEPARATE THEM

Best Bearded Dragon / Leopard Gecko incubator? Recently my bearded dragons laid some eggs, and my Leopard geckos have on two different occasions. I would like to keep these eggs to term and get more animals, but I haven't been able to find an incubator that seems good. I need one that is totally automated, and can be adjusted to set the humidity/temperature at various degrees (obviously since each species is different). Does anyone know where I can find some good reptile ones? Various prices are fine as long as it covers both cheaper and expensive-but-high-quality, etc.

My boyfriend & I really like reptiles and want to go further w/ them. Which roads can we take? permits/license So years back my boyfriend and I really got into reptiles we had 2 ball pythons then got out of it for a while then got back into the game and now have 2 San Felipe Rosy Boas, Tree Frogs and Anole lizards in our Vivaium we will be getting 2 red footed tortoises and an incubator to raise there young we take care of our roomates geckos and bearded dragons and are always at the repltile store here in San Diego checking out there new animals, we have a friend who works there so we get a lot of hands on they have a HUGE monitor lizard and a baby alligator its a wonderful store. My question is what kind of permits or licenses can we obtain to go further with repltiles...We would love to go further but dont know of our options. Any reptile hobbiest please give me your feedback!! Thank you!! Also do you need to have a permit to have a tortoise as a pet in california??

Help Quick! My Leopard Gecko Laid eggs and I need to make an incubator!? PLease help me! My leopard gecko just laid her first egg earlier than I thought she would and is trying to lay her second. I have NO IDEA what I am doing! I need to make an incubator for them asap but sure how! I can not find any vermiculite or perlite so right now I have a plastic shoe box container filled with sand and then I have reptile moss which I made damp and put the egg on it. I put it underneath my geckos cage where it is about 10 in away from their heating pad on the bottom of their tank. Please help me make this better! I know the egg is fertile because it is pinky looking and has little veins running through it so I really dont want to kill the babies! Help helP! and it has to be an incubator that I can make from home at midnight with things I have around the house if that is possible?? Yes I have a male and female. I am not able to purchase vermiculite or perlite. Any ideas without using that? Will they be ok the way they are until I got to a pet shop tomorrow?

Breeding Green Anoles? HI: I have 2 green anoles a male and female. My female Just layid one egg but no in dirt.... So I put in the dirt last night and the morning the egg was caved in. Is my gecko pregnant? the moist hide is full of sand? i woke up this morning, and looked into the gecko's viv and the moist hide, which i have made out of a ice cream tub with some kitchen roll was full of the reptile sand that covers the ground. I am not sure what this means, i have left the moist hide like it is for now, which is not moist and full of sand. I have a pair of geckos,definitely male and female but we were told that they were unlikely to breed, because they have been a pair all their lives, they are around 5 years of age, and when we bought them we were told that they were sub adults, but in fact they were at least 4, which we didn't realize until after wards. The geckos are not interested in each other what so ever, and i have never seen ANY interaction between both of them, this is why i doubt she is pregnant, but what does the moist hide full of sand mean? I have looked at her and she doesn't look pregnant, well from what i can see anyway. Do i need to buy an incubator? Thanks if you can help!! X

Is it a house gecko or leopard gecko? I had a house gecko as a pet for a while. She laid eggs in her tank and then got loose during a feeding. I was not sure her eggs were fertile and could not afford an incubator I just left them where she had never thinking they would hatch. About 2 weeks later I found a baby gecko on my bedroom floor looking REALLY thin and hungry. I caught it easily and then checked on the eggs. One was broken open. I assumed this gecko was the baby from the egg. It looked similar to the MOTHER. However since then I have begun to question if this is in fact a leopard gecko that just happened to get into my room. I have had is a month and it has not shown an ability to climb glass but can climb wicker baskets. It also has the CATS eyes and seems to hate when I mist the tank. So can this just be a HUGE coincidence? I have had trouble finding the answer on reptile sites. All they show is the differences in care. Help me please. He seems to have put on alot of wt from the time I caught him. He eats primarily live meal worms and fruit flies as he is too small to eat crickets. Any ideas on things to help make him strong enough to climb?

Leopard Gecko Egg Questions? Hello I am currently looking around for a incubator but I have a few questions about the leopard gecko eggs I currently have six eggs in a ten gallon tank know I have the eggs in that brick soil that breaks apart with water and they are in a long contanier I have a temp gage and humidity gage also in the tank a screen lid and a heat emitor know the temp is good what should I have the humidity stay at? should the contaner have a lid on it or should I leave the lid off also the eggs look like they are caving in is this normal I candaled the eggs and they looked fertal they were yellowy and I could see a little red spot and it looked like some vains I guess so I am pritty sure they were good eggs I am just ensure of the caving in off the eggs any help would be greatly apresiated as these are my first reptile eggs and also I live in the oshawa area and am finding it kinda hard to find vermiculite any help thanks
