I was just wondering, how many times a day should the eggs be turned? i have plans for a water tray, but does anyone think i will need to mist the eggs with water? also, i didn't plan on having the eggs in any specific position. is it vital to have the quail eggs small side down? when i turn them, is it just turn them over to their other side? i was planning on putting them in a day after being layed. then taking out the water tray the day they were due to hatch or should i just leave them in the incubator? because i have designed it to double as a brooder sorry for all the questions but i want to be as knowledgable as possible before i go through with this. i hope someone can answer as many of these as they can :) thank you so much :):) p.s Will a 60 watt bulb work? i will have backup bulbs of diff. watts and i do have a thermometer.

Homemade incubator for a Ball python? I'm researching as much as I can on Ball python breeding because when I raise my Ball pythons and get them to the correct weight I will begin to breed them. I want to know how to create a good incubator for holding Ball python eggs. Here are my questions I have: 1) What should I use as a heating source to keep the eggs at their correct temperature? 2) What substrate should I use for the eggs? 3) Do I need to tear the eggs apart when my Ball python lays them, or should I just keep them as they are? 4) What could I use for the incubator? 5) What temps and humidity levels should I keep the eggs at? 6) What should I use to tell the temperature of the incubator? If you have any other things I should know about the incubator or anything about breeding I will appreciate it. Thank you! -Tiffany
What should I do about this? please help! would like advice from someone who has had a similar scenario? I have a chicken egg that may possibly have live chick a live in it. The date I thought it was due to hatch on was July 14th. But apparently it didn't hatch on that date. I had been tld by someone who owns chickens that depending on how long the egg went without being incubated its normal for it to be late. Since I don't know when the egg was laid or how its gone with being incubated so I'm sure if its late or not. The same person that told its normal for it to be late also said maybe I should wait until the of the month to see what happens. Well, tomorrow is July 31st the last day of the month, the egg still hasn't hatched. Should I give a bit more time or gently open it and find what's happend? FYI: I've been keeping it in a homemade incubator I made myself I also candled it today and there's a shadow that has taken up all the room in the egg except for the aircell. What should I do about this? Also has anyone had a scenario similar to mine? Please help! answer! No jokes or wise cracks allowed! I just mentioned that I candled it today and saw a shadow that has taken up nearly all the room in the egg except for the air cell

Would the temp in my room effect this? In Vegas(where I am) the temps have gotten up to the 70s and 80s on certain days. As a result I leave my ceiling fan running and my window open to cool off the room. If I had a homemade incubator in my room would the temp in the incubator be effected by the temperature in my bedroom? the temp in the incubator gets to be about 99 to 100 degrees. I'm NOT using it right now, but I wanted to know.

If you had a small tank so the heat stayed in. and it had a shallow container with the eggs in it with a small amount of wood shavings. the kind used for bedding. and then had a lid or something on top like wood or something to keep the heat in with a strong light bulb? could that work? please help if not please tell me how to make a simple incubator that is cheap and easy thank you so much.

Is this normal for an embryo? I have a 10 day old chicken egg that is possibly fertile. I've been keeping warm in a homemade incubator. I've candled it and its pretty dark on the inside and has dark lines in it. But what I noticed is when I had it for five days is the yoke started to just stay still and there's some type of shadow and/or near it right now. Is the shadow I'm seeing the embryo? if so is what I'm seeing normal for a 10 day old chicken egg?
What should I do about about this, help!? I have a 6 day old chicken egg with a possible live embryo in it, I keep warm in a homemade incubator I made myself. But what I want to know is it ok to leave the incubator on if I'm gone for 1-3 hours? the heat source I use for this incubator is a heating pad. I'm really concerned if I should leave the incubator on while I'm gone for over 1-3 hours since I wouldn't want the heating pad to get too warm and catch on fire. Also on this heating pad the heat setting CANNOT be adjusted. Can anyone help me on this please? I really don't want to lose this egg if its possibly fertile. Hey! wildrift for FYI I want to keep this egg alive if it is fertile, I would NEVER hurt an animal on purpose. So anybody who does jokes or wise cracks please don't come here. For those who want to know, yes I do lantern the egg and turn it over.
Ever done this sucessfully, if so how was it? Seriously, anyone ever incubated a bird egg with a homemade incubator? I only ask this cause I made a homemade incubator once, using a plastic box, a heating pad and some towels. I tested it out and it works pretty well only now I want to try it out on a fertile egg , which I plan got from a friend. And yes, I did my homework on incbating and hand raisng pigeons from day one, I did about a year and a half research, so I've gt a orugh idea of what expect. NO ridicalous answers please! thanks!
Is this considered normal or what, answer please?!? I have 6 day old chicken egg I've been keeping warm in a homemade incubator I made myself using a plastic box, towels, a heating pad and a small container of water for humidity. I turn it over and check the temp like most poultry websites recommend. But thing is when I candled it today, I noticed the inside of the egg has gotten darker and the faint lines inside are somewhat darker and more pronouned. Also, there appears to be some type of dark(almost black) spot in the center of the yoke. Also there's some small black lines coming out of the edge of the yoke. I know there's a possible chance this egg is fertile but is what I'm seeing normal after having an egg for 6 days? I know that by the 5th day you can see the embryo developing but I wanted to hear what someone who's owned or raised chickens has to say about my description.
Will it help keep it warm or what? For those who have been following my pigeon questions, here's another one: I plan to get a pigeon(or egg) from a friend who onws a pair(she's mostly likely gonna trade them in for a different pair, these will probably be purebreds since the female is a mixed breed and male is a purebred roler, their baby died cause she had deformed head. I have a sport heating pack that stays warm for 8 hours. If I had to go out for a while...would this pack help incubate the egg if I had to leave the house for a while or what? I have made a homemade incubator using a large plastic box, some towels a heating pad a container of water for humidity. I tried it out and it works but I HAVEN'T tried out on a fertile egg yet. (And yes I've done my homework/research already) No jokes or wisecracks...thanks!
Where can I buy an incubator? (Hovabator)? I asked this question before and most of them didnt help. Please tell me where I can get one. DONT POST WHERE I CAN BUY FROM A SITE..STORES ONLY. Or if you dont know, please post how to make a homemade incubator.
Other reliable heat source? Kay, here it goes, ya might have seen my questions here before regarding pigeons(see my profile) But anyway, I made a homemade incubator and the heat source is a heating pad. Although I've been told NOT to leave it so it doesn't start a fire. Anyone know of another reliable non-flammable heat source that can be used when I'm not at home? I'm planning on getting an egg or pigeon chick from a friend possibly sometime this year. (no jokes or wisecracks allowed) thanks for answering!
How do I keep it warm now got suggestions...please help!? I have a 1 week old chicken egg that may be fertile. I've been keeping it warm using a homemade incubator I made myself using a plastic box, towels, a heating pad and a small container of water for humdity. I had planned to tell my parents about the egg but my Mom found the incubator today and seemed a little upset. I explained to both of my parents about the egg everything is ok, but now that my Mom has taken apart the incubator and has taken back the heating pad, how do I keep the egg warm now? I DON'T have a heat lamp and I don't think asking for the heating pad back is a good idea right now. Can anyone give me any suggestions on keeping this egg warm? I only have another 10 days before it possibly hatches and I would like some advice on how to continue incubating it.
Is this ok to use or what? O...kay here it goes, I made a homemade incubator, the heat source is a heating pad, but the only thermometor I have is for testing body tempurature. Will this be ok to use or should I get another thermometor? (I DON'T have any eggs right now, but I plan to get a pigeon one from a friend) I've spent almost a year doing my homework on this so I've got a rough idea of what to look for. Anyone got a decent answer? thanks!
Anyone ever done this sucessfully? Anyone ever incubated a pigeon egg using a homemade incubator? If so... was it succuessful or what? NO JOKES OR WISECRACKS PLEASE!
Could there be worms in my fresh vanilla beans? Hey, fellow foodies: I just got some fresh vanilla beans and decided to make some homemade vanilla yogurt. I make plain yogurt all the time, so I followed the same process, but I added the vanilla at the very beginning so it would have long contact with the milk for more flavor. I sliced the bean down the middle, scraped out the seeds, and then put the pod and all the seeds in the milk. But once the milk warmed up, I found dozens of long, slimy strands in it that looked like little brown worms. I'm hoping it is just a gelatinous lining or something from the beans, but thought I'd ask and see if anyone else has had this experience. I've strained the yogurt now and put it in the incubator, but I'd like to know if it's really good to eat once it's done. If you've used really fresh beans before maybe you can shed some light. Thanks!
i need help on incubator bedding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!? is there a way to make homemade incubator bedding for the eggs and hatchings.
What to use? help me!? I have a possibly fertile chicken egg right at the moment. I have it in a homemade incubator and have candled it today it's dark on the inside and has dark lines in it. But if it hatches what do I feed the chick if I don't have the right birdseed they need? I live in Las Vegas, NV if you need to know my location. And please no jokes or wise cracks
Question about incubating? Hello, I am currently incubating some duck eggs in a homemade incubator. My problem is that the humidity is around 80% whereas it should be 50-55%. The container of water that is in there is pretty small and I can't really imagine making it any larger. I poked several holes in the incubator thinking that it would bring down the humidity, but it didn't do much. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.
Would this be consider flammable, please help!? I have an 18 day old chicken egg that might hatch this friday! or later on. I have it in a homemade incubator the main heat source is a heating pad. I can't change the heat setting since it doesn't have a control. My folks have to go shopping today and pick up my older sister from work. I CAN'T leave the heating pad on while we're gone, someone suggested using a 40 or 60 watt bulb to keep the egg warm. I have a 15 watt bulb that gets just as warm but what I wanted to know is if I leave the bulb on with the egg on a towel to retain heat with the towel catch on fire by any chance? Please answer! I might be leaving soon and I don't want to lose this egg if its possibly alive. I forgot to add NO jokes or wise cracks allowed! Oh and by the way I DON'T have a chicken to keep the egg warm. I live in townhouse complex in Las Vegas.
PEKIN DUCK EGG is HATCHING? My Pekin duck egg is hatching in my homemade incubator. It has started to poke a hole in the shell. However, the humidity is only 25%. Will this hurt the hatching process or something?
Which would probably work better?? I once made a homemade incubatior using the following: large plastic container with lid heating pad a clean tuna can with water(for humidity) towels I tested it out and it worked great(I HAVEN'T used it on a fertile egg, though) But which do ya think would owrk better, the homemade incubator I tried out or an ajustable desklamp? The temp inside gets to be about 98 to 100 degrees, is that ok?
I should do it or not? I have 1 week old possibly fertile chicken egg I've been keeping warm in a homemade incubator, I have candled it and it is dark on the inside. Here's what's up, I haven't told my parents or older sister about the egg, I'm concerned they may make me get rid of it before it possibly hatches. I do plan to tell them if the egg hatches, but my problem is some people think should stop incubating the egg since I don't have the right home for it. But here's a description of where I live I live in a 3 story townhouse complex in Henderson, NV(in short I live in Las Vegas). Our complex is still under construction and there really isn't an outdoor area the chick can go to or live in. We don't have a backyard just a balcony. We live in a 3 bed room townhouse. But most people think the chick will be miserable if it stays in the house or I can't find the right home for it. Also some other people think I should stop incubating the egg if I can't care for it, so should I do it or not? No jokes or wise cracks allowed! I only ask for good advice not jokes! What I meant by candling it is checking to see if its fertile, using a flash light. Also I'm home schooled and Summer vacation is here so I don't go to a public school, the air cell in the egg has gotten to the size it should be when it reaches the 7th day of incubation(I found a char online that explains it). So the humidity seems fine if the air cell is at the size it should be according to the chart. Although the egg may possibly hatch I've read that some people have had a bit of success using a homemade incubator.
Would this be consider a problem, please help!? I have a two week old chicken egg with a possible live chick in it. I candled it today and noticed the air-cell is the same size it was when the egg was 7 days old. Now the egg is 14 days old, I keep it in a homemade incubator and I do have a small container of water in it for humidity. Should I be concerned if the air cell is slow on expanding to the size it should be? If so, should I add another container of water or leave the incubator the way it is? I'm concerned that too much humidity may possibly be too overwhelming for the chick that is possibly alive in this egg. Please answer No jokes or wise cracks allowed I don't know what type of chicken it is but thanks for telling me. I have seen lines in it that look like veins, Earlier this week I put my ear up to the egg and heard what sounded like a heart beating so the chances are its still viable.
Can this work, please help?!? I have a question similar to this. Check out my Q&A , the question is titled "Got answers?!please help?!?" It has a list of things I have to make a homemade incubator. But all I want to know is this... can it work for a pigeon egg? I just wanted to know so that I might be able to save a life if a situtation like this should occur for any reason. If you read my question"Got answers?! please help?!" that will provide you with more info. But please tell me can this work?
