Surrogate Mothers - Personal Incubators? Just curious as to how you feel in regards to this issue of how women in India are being used as incubators for women around the world. http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/asiapcf/12/30/india.wombs.for.rent.ap/index.html?iref=mpstoryview I have very mixed feelings on this as the idea does not sit with me even tho- I do not have an issue with women who choose to be surrogate mothers. But wow...what next.

Do hens look after and take care of their young? Would the hen care for the chick even after it hatched? If so, how do they feed them? I always wondered because I've always heard of using incubators to hatch the egg, etc. But what would happen if we let nature take its course, Is the chick raised by its mother or is it on its own? What are the dos and don'ts of hatching eggs in an incubator? i have used an incubator twice and have no success I keep getting conficting information about putting water in at the start or near the end. I also don't know if the temperature was too hot, the temp gague said it was ok most of the time but the first lot died in the shell and had a thick rubbery substance around them which seemed to be what prevented them from pipping out. Please do not want titles of books but rather the value of those who have had some experience in this field.
How do you hatch your own eggs? With a Incubator, or do the hens just sit on it natuarally? I have a variety of chicken breed hens and they all lay eggs. But someone told me they are supposed to sit on them and hatch them but they never do? Is there a way to make them do this or do you use an incubator? Also, do you have to collect them within a certain amount of time for the incubator process to work? And anything else you might know about the hatching process, please let me know! Thanks
When the government, and the rest of the idiots ban incandesent bulbs, where will we get replacements? We who are of the past, still use bulbs to maintain warmth in chick brooders, to keep a water pump and lines from freezing on a dip in temperature below freezing. Toy baking ovens still use them, incubators, antique chandeliers, and lamps, a long list of their use. Baker ovens work for little girls, and that's not important? Inmates make them from tin foil and cardboard. You must have attended government schools heh?

Would this be good to use for incubating or what? I've been told a thermometor used for checking body temperatures isn't the best thermometor to use for an incubator. I found a thermometor used for checking room temperatures, would this work for a homemade incubator? I only want to know cuase I'm planning on trying to hatch a pigeon from a friend I DON'T have an egg right now. I live in Nevada my room is pretty warm right now even though I have my ionic breeze and regualr fan running, I also have the window open. (No jokes or wisecracks please) I don't want anything to happen to this egg when I finally get it! I DID my research on temps & hand feeding for almost a year now.
How accurate is it from a biological perspective to say "women create life"? As I understand it an embryo is essentially as a clump of dividing cells. It is also an separate organism that uses a females womb like a egg would use an incubator. So granted women are more involved in the lifes development. So what does it mean when some feminists say that women are superior because they "create" life. * This is not an attack on feminists so please try avoid Ad Hominem attacks.

Are Covatutto 7 incubators any good? I'm currently using a home-made incubator to incubate bantam eggs but have decided to buy a Covatutto 7 incubator from eBay and am wondering if it's really any good? My home-made gadget has worked okay (last hatch 100% success) but with the weather changing so much I'm having trouble maintaining the temperature. Would I really be better off with a Covatutto 7? Anybody know? And does the flickering light annoy as much as I expect it to? Thanks.

Is sawdust OK to use as the substrate in an incubator for Leopard Geckos? My Gecko has just laid an egg this morning and I knew she was pregnant but not when and we intended to go out today and buy some vermiculite but she has already laid 2 so we have put them in a tuba-wear container with sawdust that will be kept moist and also cling film over the top to hold in moisture, the container is under a spotlight in the geckos tank. Is sawdust ok or bad ?
Has anyone ever considered being a surrogate mother for a friend? I have a friend who due to some problems with her woman parts is unable to get pregnant. She's taking pills to see if they help at all, but I have had this thought on my mind so much lately of trying to give them the gift of a baby by letting them sort of use me as their incubator I guess. Has anyone ever considered this before?

Will it help keep it warm or what? For those who have been following my pigeon questions, here's another one: I plan to get a pigeon(or egg) from a friend who onws a pair(she's mostly likely gonna trade them in for a different pair, these will probably be purebreds since the female is a mixed breed and male is a purebred roler, their baby died cause she had deformed head. I have a sport heating pack that stays warm for 8 hours. If I had to go out for a while...would this pack help incubate the egg if I had to leave the house for a while or what? I have made a homemade incubator using a large plastic box, some towels a heating pad a container of water for humidity. I tried it out and it works but I HAVEN'T tried out on a fertile egg yet. (And yes I've done my homework/research already) No jokes or wisecracks...thanks!

Was a fun game and would love to play it again. HELP ME!! Thanks

Could there be worms in my fresh vanilla beans? Hey, fellow foodies: I just got some fresh vanilla beans and decided to make some homemade vanilla yogurt. I make plain yogurt all the time, so I followed the same process, but I added the vanilla at the very beginning so it would have long contact with the milk for more flavor. I sliced the bean down the middle, scraped out the seeds, and then put the pod and all the seeds in the milk. But once the milk warmed up, I found dozens of long, slimy strands in it that looked like little brown worms. I'm hoping it is just a gelatinous lining or something from the beans, but thought I'd ask and see if anyone else has had this experience. I've strained the yogurt now and put it in the incubator, but I'd like to know if it's really good to eat once it's done. If you've used really fresh beans before maybe you can shed some light. Thanks!
Can electrical storms result in the failure of chicken eggs to hatch? My mother used to say that when there were lots of electrical storms it could result in a bad hatch - the chicks would die before hatching. She said it was the nitrogen put in the air from lightening. We have had many electrical storms and the eggs in my incubator did not hatch, neither did the ones put under a setting hen at the same time. Could it be that my mother was right? I can find no reference to this theory on the Internet. Has anyone else heard of this? Is it scientifically possible that the lightening storms killed the chicks before they hatched? Comments and observations please.....

To invade Iraq 16 Jan 91, what story was used to inflame US blood lust.? I am arguing with friends, what story made the US public support that war. My opinion is, that story about babies been taken out of incubators in Kuwait, by Iraqi soldiers (it was later found out, that the 17 year old girl (eyewitness), was daughter of a Kuwait Diplomat, born in CA and had never left the USA.) Can anybody shed some light?
How to keep chicks warm without a brooder lamp? I'm hatching 21 chicks in my incubator but when they hatch I don't know how to keep them warm throughout the night. I won't use a brooder lamp because of the danger of a fire starting and they could get to hot. Day time is ok I can just put them down the t-shirt. Is there something else I can use to keep them warm at night???.
Ever done this sucessfully, if so how was it? Seriously, anyone ever incubated a bird egg with a homemade incubator? I only ask this cause I made a homemade incubator once, using a plastic box, a heating pad and some towels. I tested it out and it works pretty well only now I want to try it out on a fertile egg , which I plan got from a friend. And yes, I did my homework on incbating and hand raisng pigeons from day one, I did about a year and a half research, so I've gt a orugh idea of what expect. NO ridicalous answers please! thanks!
I am trying to hatch a chicken egg, but i want to know a few things first.? the requirements were NOT to use an incubator, but to use our bodies to warm it, so we must wear the egg with us. Does anyone know a good way for a male to wear an egg without endangering it? and also, i know the egg needs to be at about 100 F but what will happen if its only at about 90? will it still hatch? thanks.
