Can cooked chicken get salmonella when submerged in a liquid/sauce?
My brain works in weird ways. I was thinking while i was throwing out chicken that was left out from the night before. If it was possiable for chicken to get salmonella even when it is submerged in a liquid/sauce. So i was just wondering if any of you would know?

- If the liquid was what the RAW chicken was marinating in, then yes.......
- yes indeed! And salmonella isn't the only thing to be worried about. Actually, any salmonella was probably killed when cooking the chicken, you just don't know what else is in your kitchen, or is released when someone sneezes, farts, or otherwise walks by the chicken. Room temp-to-body temp, moisture, and food is all bacteria needs to grow. It's all there in chicken submerged in liquid. Pitch it.
- yes only because it was out all night though
- I wouldn't eat anything that was left out all night. There are many things you can catch from spoiled food , other than salmonella... don't risk it.
- Generally, salmonella is a contaminant that arrives in the food from the processing plant. But food can be contaminated from soiled hands, containers, and utensils as well. The process of cooking the meat kills most contaminants, and reintroduction of contaminants is the result of careless handling after the fact. Refrigeration only slows the growth of contaminants once they are introduced. Just because the cooked chicken was left out of the refrigerator overnight does not mean that it will cause illness. On the contrary, it is probably just fine, and if the sauce is a BBQ type with vinegar and sugar, it is even less likely that bugs will grow with enough vigor to cause problems after consumption. Smell the food, taste it, and if all is well, go ahead and have your meal. I have worked 12 hour shifts for more than 20 years. We bring in food that is out of the refrigerator for up to 14 hours and eat on it all night---ain't nobody sick. The rest of you---take a microbiology class and get a grip.
