I am baking two items in my oven. One recipe calls for 400 degrees the other calls for 450.?
I am making oven roasted potatos and breaded chicken breasts. The potato recipe calls for the oven to be set at 450 degrees and the chicken calls for 400 degrees. I preheated the oven to 400 degrees, knowing it will take the potatos longer to roast. The recipe calls to roast them for 35 mins. How much longer should I let them cook to compensate for the cooler oven?

- Until they're done... Another 15 Min. ?
- Another 15-20 minutes should do the trick.
- try cooking them for a little while then testing them, cooking properly until they are done, its an inexact science. and turn down your chicken all you will do it dry it out to shoe leather.. try 350
- put the potatoes in the oven about 15 minutes before you put in the chicken. then they should be done about the same time. Or, cut the potatoes into smaller cubes than the recipe calls for
- Holy SH**! That's quite high to put the oven at- do what I do-put the oven at 360 and put the potatoes in first and the chicken in about 20-30 min. or so later. I've never heard of putting the oven that high just for chicken & potaoes
- Potatoes are pretty flexible. Put the oven at the correct temperature for the chicken. When the chicken is done, if the potatoes aren't quite browned enough, you can pop them under the broiler for a few minutes. It will probably take the potatoes another 10 minutes to roast, but that timing is just a rough guide anyway.
- Doneness (yeah I know that is not a word :) of potatoes really depends on the size of the potato and your preference. Some people like potatoes a little firmer than others. So when you take your chicken out stick a fork in one of the potatoes and decide for yourself. If you can't tell with a fork, eat one but do remember it will be VERY HOT. Cooking "by feel" will teach you to be a very good cook. Somethings you just can't cook with a timer..
- Well since you choose the loewr temp, i would check them every so offten, and fell them to see if they are tender enought to be eaten. if they feel like they are ready, take a little chuck out, let it cool, and then taste it. Thast what do, but i normally choose a number in the middle for the oven temp, that way the higher temp, cooks longer,a dn teh lower temps also cooks longer. it works better for me that waybat least. lol but like i said check, dont go my the mubers, go by feel, and taste, and waht ever you do (i dont think you'd be weird enought to, but just in case) please do not touch anything bare handed. I have done it by accident, and i have had a friend how did it, and it hurts like so much, not recomended. enjoy your diner.
