Chook Me!

Is it bad to partially cook poultry, refridgerate and then recook it the next day?

My husband partially cooked some turkey breast and then stuck it in the refridgerator. It was still raw in the middle and then he fully cooked it today. I heard that it was NOT good to eat poultry that was not fully cooked on the first day, however, I am not completely sure why (something about the bacteria breeding). Anyway, my husband still thinks that we should eat it but however you can help is appreciated. (I just don't want to spend the next few days vommitting and pooping the whole time.)

  1. Toss!! No good.
  2. That doesn't sound too good, I would not take that chance.
  3. Ever heard of food poisioning. Throw it away immediately. You will be sick.
  4. if it is fully cooked now, then it should be absolutely okay to eat. many restaurants will partially cook large chicken breasts as prep for next-day large meal rushes. you may not realize, but that chicken sandwich you had at your local business may have been prepared exactly as you're indicating here.
  5. As a chef for the last 22 years I can tell you that it is not a good idea. I haven't heard any rumors about it being bad for you i.e. risk of salmonella, and I am under the assumption that if you get the internal temp over 165F that it will kill off any remaining bacteria buuuuuuutttt like I said I wouldn't risk it. If in doubt...throw it OUT!!!!!!!! edit: as anatomic B posted above, restaurants do partially cook chx breast for rushes but it has to be used within 4 hours. The threshhold for food being in the danger zone (40F-140F) is 4 hours. Anything longer than that and you are risking getting someone sick. Please please please dont take the chance!
  6. Do not eat it! Poultry can not be partially cooked like that. You will most likely get very sick. I worked in a nursing home once in the kitchen. One of the cooks had done this with some turkeys for Thanksgiving and then finished cooking them the next day. When the head cook found out she threw them all away. They sent one out for testing and was she glad she didn't serve them! Everyone would have had food poisoning. It's not worth it. Please just throw it away.
  7. This is not good. Throw it away. Poultry ruins quickly.
  8. I am sure you already have thrown it out by now, but that is exactly what was needed to done here. The risk for getting sick is too great.
  9. eat that turkey and you will be vommitting and pooping the next few days if you dont die first. be smart and throw it out
