Chicken in a CrockPot?
I found a great recipe for chicken and vegetables but is says to bake it in the oven. I don't have a big enough pan so I was thinking about cooking it in my crockpot. It calls for a whole 5 pound chicken - how long would you cook it and what setting. My crockpot has high low and warm settings. Thank you.

- LOW setting for 8 hrs*-9hrs or 4hrs -5 on High*
- Yes. Cook it in the crock pot. Use a meat thermometer. Chicken is done when it reads 165 F. (Make sure you use liquid. You can also brown it first in a pan on the stove before you put it in the crock pot.) Use the low setting. It may take anywhere for 1-3 hours.
- This should help. I just stumbled upon it like a week ago. I hope this gets me best answer. http://www.flickr.com/photos/25014312@N05/
- I would cook it on low....and check it after 3hrs. if possible. It will literally be falling off the bone. You might want to brown it in the skillet, a few pieces at time before putting it in the croc. Good luck.
- I've never made chicken in a crockpot ... If it were skinless, that should be fine. But I don't like the idea of chicken stewing in it's own fat for hours:) ... Don't you have a 9x13" pan you can use in the oven?
- I know this is a different recipe that what you have, but I have copied it so you can see the cooking time for a 4 lb., cut up Chicken cooked on a lower setting. You can increase your temperature setting and speed up your cooking time, but a cut up Chicken will cook faster than a whole Chicken,so you might want to consider that as well. If you're in doubt, always use your meat thermometer and make sure it reads over 165, and that way you'll be assured it is cooked properly! Good luck and have fun! Ingredients 1 4-lb chicken -- cut up 3 tablespoons olive oil 2 onions -- sliced 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon fresh ground pepper 1 celery ribs -- cut in small chunks 2 cups potatoes -- diced 1 cup ripe tomatoes -- chopped 1 teaspoon oregano 3 tablespoons chopped parsley 1 cup frozen peas -- thawed Preparation Brown the chicken parts in oil. Add salt, pepper and onions and cook for another 5 minutes. Put celery and potatoes in the bottom of the slow cooker and top with browned chicken, onions, tomatoes, 1/2 cup water, oregano and parsley. Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours. Add peas, cover and cook on high 15 minutes.
