1. its because they give them lots of hormones and they trick the birds buy keeping them i the dark and then turning on the lights like every three hours. the poor bird thinks its a new day so it lays a new egg.
2. The hormone thing charles said is true but that turning lights off and on is really stupid..
3. I think you are assuming facts not in evidence.. Chickens lay eggs unless they are sitting "trying to hatch their eggs" and raising their chicks Domestic chickens aren't good at that part,, but chickens like banties are good at it we used to take eggs from chickens like new hampshire reds and have banties sit on their eggs and they raised the chicks.. One thing I am sure of is they lay eggs till they get too old or die penned or unpenned or become unhealthy
