Silkie Bantams?

I have never kept any sort of bird as a pet before and we are thinking about getting some silkie chickens for my neice to show in 4H. Are they friendly birds? How big would a coop for about 10 chickens need to be? Do you know of any nice coop plans for free on the internet? How long do they live? What is the name of a hatchery that breeds nice looking silkies? Thank you!
