Will soon be a baby chick mama. Any advice on building a chicken coop, lot (pen) safety, diseases and health?

- Depends on where you live and how many chickens you are going to have. A shed for their warmth, wood & chicken wire for a yard area. Put a large limb out in the pen in case they want to roost on warm nights. That should keep them safe from wildlife. Diseases? websites: Texas Animal Health Commission.com and www.usda.gov
- Baby chicks need to be kept warm for a while, so you need to keep a heat lamp on them. Fence needs to be tall, and if you bury the fence at least 1 foot, then that will hape keep predators from digging in from under the fence. Coop needs to be tight, to keep predators from getting in. My friend built the coop off the ground by 1 foot and put in a sturdy wooden floor with chicken roosting boxes. This site explains things really well: http://www.i4at.org/lib2/chickens.htm
- I wouldn't have got chickens without the help of http://p072.ezboard.com/bbackyardchickens which is now moving to www.backyardchickens.com . I've been putting a lot of my knowledge into my own website, www.allaboutchickens.tk
