  1. Well I use vermiculite, which works great. The humidity needs to be very slightly moist. My first time I had it too moist and after that I lessened the amount of water and everything worked fine. I would keep a lid on it which helps keep the humidity more constant. I usually get my eggs at the right humidity and never have to add any more water the entire breeding season. So keep the eggs moist but barely and they should be good. Also, I'm sure you know to never turn the eggs.
  2. Go to any of your local farm stores (or somewhere that sells farm supplies) and get an incubator. Otherwise, LLLReptile sells them for about $40. The Hovabator is going to be the most common one you'll find. The setup you have now is not going to work. The eggs must be kept in deli cups or small tupperwares COVERED so they don't collapse like yours are. They get dried out much too fast when the humidity isn't high enough. Also, using a heat emitter is not a great idea because the ambient temps change too much. I'd get on that incubator as soon as you can.
