Chicken Incubator Project?

There's a place where you can rent an incubator and chciken eggs and watch them hatch. You get to keep them for like... 3 weeks. Does anyone know where I can get something like this?

  1. u can look on ebay but look at the sipping make sure that its not 2 long!
  2. I have never heard of something like that. why dont you just get an incubator and chicken eggs and get a deal with a farmer that once hatch and grow up that you will give them to him. and for chicken eggs it will take just over 3 weeks for them to hatch. so if you are planning on observing the chicks you will need to observe them for over three weeks. the average chicken egg takes 21 to 25 days to incubate. if you are planning on observing the embryo inside the egg grow you will need to perchase a candler or make one from a flash light and a shoe box.
  3. I've never heard of anyone "renting" an incubator and eggs, but lots of grade school classes hatch eggs. You can buy an incubator from any farm/agricultural supply store. I've also seen them in teacher supply catalogs. In the catalogs there are smaller sizes than I've seen in stores, which would probably be good for classroom type projects. A good Styrofoam unit that can hatch about 3 dozen eggs will cost about $40, but it can be reused many times. Fertilized eggs can be purchased through a mail-order company, or through your local farm supply store. Just run an Internet search for "hatching eggs" or something similar and you will get lots of results. p.s. If you want to observe the development of the eggs and then the chicks once they hatch you'll need the setup for more than 3 weeks. They usually take longer than that to hatch. Hope this helps.
  4. There are teaching supplements and educational material for incubating and hatching eggs. I believe you would have to contact your local county extension office - this is the county department affiliated with 4-H. They should be listed in the phone book under your county government listings. They will either sell you a reasonably priced incubator or loan it to a classroom, but I don't think they do this for private use. You also have to provide the fertilized eggs, or find a generous hatchery or farmer who would donate them.
