  1. What you have to remember is the less you pay for you incubator the less dependable it will be. While I have hatched many different types of eggs in the styrofoam incubator, it is easier to hatch in one of the automated incubators. You should look around to see if you can find a good used incubator.
  2. Check around on the poultry forums such as backyardchickens.com as they have lots of plans for less expensive but very dependable incubators. There are people even hatching chicks/ducks out of modified skillets!
  3. Ebay!! You can get NICE incubators slightly used for a fraction of the price. Just try searching for hatching egg incubators or incubators and see what you find. I used the circulated air model Hova-Bator and it worked GREAT! You should be able to find a used one for under $100!
  4. You can make a nice one from a foam cooler and two light fixtures with 40 watt bulbs. It has to have holes for ventilation ans a pan of water for humidity. Wire the lights to a rheostat so you can control the temperature. There isn't much to it.
