  1. hmm..here's something easy.. get some dried straw.. a light bulb, the yellow one a box/cage put all the straw in the box,/cage and hang the bulb in the middle of the cage, not too far up and not too far down.. This will provide warmth for your chicken eggs.. anyway i have taken care of chickens for a long time, when i was a kid, elementary school, i hatched an egg by keeping it at the back of the refrigerator for warmth.. hope this helps!
  2. http://www.urbanext.uiuc.edu/eggs/res20-incubator.html http://msucares.com/poultry/reproductions/poultry_make_incubator.html http://www.cyberquail.com/incubators.html http://www.the-testament-of-truth.co.uk/web/incubat.htm http://www.afn.org/~poultry/matilda.htm These are all websites with details of how to build an incubator. All of these incubators are a little different so I hope you can find something that suits your purpose. Remember that not only is your job to keep the eggs warm but you also have to keep the right humidity and you also have to turn the eggs. The temperature of the incubator should be around 97-102 F. The humidity should be around 60 and at haching time around 67-70. You should turn the eggs three times a day until day 18. After that the eggs should be left alone so that they can hatch. Hope this helps, also, a great site that I have learned alot from is http://www.ext.vt.edu/pubs/poultry/factsheets/8.html This sheet is all about properly incubating your chicks. It will help alot and inform you of all the does and don'ts. This website will help you when it comes to brooding the chicks. http://extension.missouri.edu/explore/agguides/poultry/g08351.htm I don't suggest the straw idea in case of a fire.
