Chook Me!

Which is a better heat source fo this?

Seriously, which is a better source for a homemade incubator: A desk lamp or a heating pad? I only ask this cause I want to try out the one I've made on an actual fertile egg. (no jokes!) thanks!

  1. well id say heating pad at bottom and desk light shining down it will get all around warmth
  2. A heating pad can be used for a brooder, but neither a heat lamp nor heating pad will work to hatch an egg. The temp and humidity have to be just right. An inexpensive chicken incubator will work.
  3. I believe a desk lamp at approx. 25 watts. people usually place two, one on either side of the incubator. It is very important to keep it at a certain temp....If I were you I would do a little more research on line or go up to the library and see if they have a book about it...make some copies...It's free!! Good luck!! Have fun!!
