Chook Me!

Why are my hens scared of my 2 roosters?

my hens won't even go outside when the roosters are around. they won't get down off the roost so they can drink and eat. I have to put the food and water up by them so I know they are ok. but why are the scared of them. thank you. Need some help.

  1. Probably because there are two of them.
  2. How many hens do you have? Roosters are VERY agressive during breeding times. If you ask people who raise chickens they will tell you never to have more than 1 rooster per 10 or so hens. So get rid of one and get some more hens so the rooster is breeding the same couple 24/7.
  3. Sounds like one rooster too many ,try keeping one out of range & see if the hens grow more comfident,if so you need just one rooster for your hens .maybe the roosters are too aggressive & scare the hens from approaching them , Try out alternative strategies & see which one works well ,a few experiments i am sure will give you the correct approach .
