who can I give my baby male roosters to?
I am thinking of borrowing a male rooster to mate with my chickens so as to continue having laying hens for eggs. When the eggs hatch I do not want to keep the males. Does anyone know who will take them. I cannot bear to kill them as I really love animals?

- Sorry I have one already
- craigslist.com, post an ad in your metro.
- Roosters are hard to give away. People mostly want hens because of them laying eggs. Put an ad or flyer up where animal stuff is sold if they allow flyers. Or put an ad in the paper.
- Rather then breeding your hens, why not just buy pullets direct from a hatchery. That way you know for sure you will be receiving all females. Then there is no need to find a place for unwanted roosters and you wont have to worry about any birds becoming harmed. Many different hatcheries now offer sexed chicks of nearly all their breeds. They are a little more expensive then straight run,Most places do have a minimum order policy,it might be something worth checking into.
- There is no guarantee that once you borrow your friends Rooster that you will have hens that will want to "sit". Your Rooster may do his Rooster thing but that does not mean you will have a hen that will be willing to "sit" until they hatch. Maybe the best thing you can do is go to a website: chicksandmore.com Here you can order either chicks or pullets and you are guaranteed that you are getting all female birds. Somewhere in the works if you are wanting more chicks you really need to get a Rooster of your own and perhaps 2 of them depending on how many hens you have. Thing about raising chicks that you breed and hatch on your own,you will have to deal with what to do with male birds and this may include butchering some. . . . this is just what "FARM" people do and it's just part of the process and it is not for the "faint of heart". Good Luck
