Chook Me!

Can you freeze cooked chicken that had been previously frozen while still raw?

I checked on here, and got mixed answers. I'm talking about the frozen chicken breasts grocery stores sell in bag. Can I thaw them, then cook them, and then freeze the cooked chicken and still be able to reheat is safely once it's thawed? And if so, what's the best way to freeze and avoid freezer burn and dry chicken. I'm planning on freezing diced chicken breast for salads, casseroles, to make dinner preparation easier.

  1. yeah you can just make sure you don't cook over two times or else that is when bacteria starts in but just put in a freezer bag and wrap in plastic so it doesn't get freezer burnt hope this helps.........
  2. Certainly! I do it all the time. I like to put diced chicken in an appropriately sized zip lock freezer bag. It's compact, and if you squeeze the air out of it you shouldn't get freezer burn. lay it flat so it freezes quickly (and makes it easier to defrost as well). Enjoy!
  3. I do the once a week cooking thing, and we do that all the time. just cook all the chicken we will need for the week, and then package and freeze until the day we are serving that particular meat. I recommend those new freezer bags that are double lined. they help prevent freezer burn well. here is a link====> http://www.ziploc.com/
