Chook Me!

How would you adjust this recipe to use a 9x13 casserole dish instead of an 11x8 one that the recipe calls for

I would like to use this recipe, but do not have an 11x8 inch. casserole dish. Is there anything in the recipe that I would need to adjust? Campbell's Cheesy Chicken Casserole 1 can cream of chicken soup 1 1/3 cups water 3/4 cup uncooked regular long- grain white rice 1/2 tsp. onion powder 1/4 tsp. ground black pepper 2 cups frozen mixed vegetables 4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves 1/2 cup shreadded chedder cheese Stir soup, water, onion powder, pepper & rice in an 11x8 Inch. shallow casserole dish. Top w/chicken. Season chicken as desired and cover. Bake @ 375 degrees for 50 Mins. or until chicken is tender. Remove cover and top chicken with cheese. Let stand for 10 Mins. Stir rice before serving! I would assume I may need to and more soup, a little more rice, and could add one or two more halves of chicken breasts? Do I also need to bake it for a little longer too? Thanks for any help!

  1. Use the same amount of ingredients but cut the temp. to 350 degrees and about 45 minutes since what you are making will now be thinner.
  2. It will be perfectly fine in a slightly different sized baking pan. It's not a fussy recipe.
  3. I would say keep the recipe as is and bake a little LESS. If you are hoping to feed more people, then make another 1/2 recipe and bake in a 8x8 inch square pan.
  4. 9x13 is larger? Just make the casserole, it'l be in a larger dish?
  5. Measurements don't have to be exact. Just increase the amounts according to how much food you need, making sure you have enough liquid for it. You'll also want to increase the spices, and personally I use chicken broth in my rice instead of water. It gives it more flavor.
  6. you don't need to do much of anything unless you really want to. in that case, increase each ingredient by about 1/3 except for the canned soup (what the heck would you do with 2/3 leftover can of soup anyway?). substitute perhaps milk for that 1/3 can of soup.
  7. A 9x13 pan is about 1/3 bigger than an 8x11 pan, so you can increase everything by that amount. I don't think the cooking time would change because the proportions would remain the same. Alternatively, if your chicken breasts are on the smallish side (since you'd have to be able to fit them all in flat), you could put them in a 9X9x3 square pan, if you have it. The sauce and rice would be deeper in the pan, and I'd check for doneness earlier (5 to 10 minutes?), but then you wouldn't have to increase your recipe.
