Chook Me!

Would a plastic dog house make a good chicken coop?

I found a really cool plastic dog house at Sam's Club. I've been wanting to start raising chickens and thought this might make a good chicken coop. Please take a look at the photo, if you raise chickens, and let me know what you think. http://tinyurl.com/e6cfj

  1. Yeah man...just don't put the dog in it !!!
  2. it might, but i am not too shure if it would be big enough...
  3. would plastic feathers help a dog to fly
  4. It looks pretty small, but yeah I guess.
  5. yeah, if you have a big backyard and a fence, so the chickens can run around, but they wont escape
  6. no it won't work chicken need a lot of ventilation
  7. no, its to small for chickens they need a small barn !!!!!!!! i know my family has raised many farm animals!!!!!
  8. No, it would not make a good chicken coop. Chickens need a shelf with nest boxes a little bit off the ground and a protected area to scratch in. The coop should be big enough for you to get into to collect eggs and put in clean straw, and clean up the poop.
  9. I have had several different kinds of chickens, and you have to keep them where they can roost. That means up of the ground, so if you not going to keep them very long a dog house isn't the answer. Animals will make their way into the dog house and kill them. When they become adult chickens, you might want to have them lay eggs. Make sure that there isn't a Rooster around them or you will have embryo's, and not just eggs.
  10. No i think so. Chickens like a fenced in yard. Boxed in boxes, one for each chicken, a latter going to the box. They like a dark place at night. A good size yard. How many chickens do you have? I will have to find pictures of some we had. Let me know how you come out.
