How to keep chicken wings warm for picnic?

i'm going on a picnic with my bf and am intending to make some nice grilled chicken wings. how do i keep these warm? it's about an hour plus away from my bf's place and i don't have like a big thermos container or whatever. am thinking of putting them in a normal box and then wrapping the box up in papers to insulate it? might that work? or should i just skip the chicken wings? or, and any ideas for picnic food? going to have cake (it's his bday), probably some sandwiches...and? what drink might be nice? juice? i'm not a drinker. am also somewhat on a budget... thanks!

  1. Tightly wrap the chicken in foil, then wrap in thick cloth, like towels and place in box or bag.
  2. Wrap them up in foil instead of paper. I love wings bu they might be a little messy for a picnic. Maybe stick with sandwich's or a pasta salad.
  3. You will get sick if you eat warm chicken - it needs to be either hot or cold - maybe go for cold chicken wings or chicken drumsticks... will still taste good. Just take whatever sandwiches and drinks you like.
  4. if you have a small soft sided cooler that will work. like the ones you bring your lunch to work in.
  5. The best thing would be to wrap them tightly in foil, and keep them hot till you leave. Then keep them separate from any of the cold foods. Also if you have a heating pad, you might turn it on high, and have it nice and hot...and then place it in a box, and put the chicken wings on top of it, to help them stay hot. But chicken wings are still good when they are 'room temperature' and some like them cold. For a drink, I would make a 'mixed drink' punch. Take whatever juice's you like, and combine them, and voila! You're own special picnic punch! You can find some good hints here for your picnic...http://www.outdoorpicnic.com/Recipes.htm I'm sure your boyfriend will love whatever you do for him! Have fun!
  6. i have a 13 x 9 inch portable Pyrex baking dish. it has a blue plastic lid, a blue cover to put it in and it came with hot and cold packs. i bought it at walmart. use use the dish a lot and the lid some times. i have never used the cover or the hot & cold packs for travel. the do come with directions on how to use them. i hope this helps.
  7. Good old newspaper makes a wonderful insulator. (That's why homeless people cover themselves with many layers of newspaper to keep warm). Wrap the chicken wings in aluminum foil, then in 10-12 layers of newspaper, then wrap that tightly in aluminum foil.
  8. for the wings , keep them warm in the oven, then 5-10 before you leave, put all the wings tightly in foil. it will keep warm. Invest in a cooler for warm foods For a picnic, since I do not know if it is party or just you and him (sinvce you are a budget, Lets say you and him), buy a small Newspaper grill (this is a grill you stuff with newspaper ) or a mini hibashi grill . cook hot dogs and premade burger patties are great. Small container of fruit like strawberries or/and grapes are wonderful. Cabbage (cole) slaw and potato salad from the deli is great. You can buy pre cooked summer sausage and veggies and make kabobs on the grill Hope it is a great birthday for you and him
  9. not sure, but I'd say wrap them in tin foil, they might still be warm!! other ideas............ cold pasta salad? tuna mayo and sweetcorn? mushroom sauce, mush and peas? tom sauce, hot dogs, peppers? fruit salads? chopped up apple strawberries melon pear etc? cocktail sausages? hard boiled eggs with mayo dip? king prawns and french stick? and for drink......a nice home made smoothie with ice cubes in? def bake your own cake, cheaper and more personal. sure you'll have a great day,,,,,,,,,,,,,,enjoy!! xx
  10. I have done this allot of times and it works fine make the chicken and then put the chicken in an aluminum throw away pan and wrap tightly with aluminum foil and then put it in a cooler and cover should be good for about 3 to 4 hours to keep warm
