Chook Me!

What should I do If my dog eats hot wing chicken bones?

My dog, a 5 year old West Highland Terrier, dug through the trash today while we where not looking. The other night we had hot, and I mean HOT, wings and she chewed up the bones. Now she keeps whining and I don't know if it is because of the Spice or the bones. What should I do? I understand bones cause splintering. I'm really worried! It's night time here, so the vets won't be open. Anything I could do at home?

  1. Let it have chicken bone were baddddddd. You should take to the Vet to have an X-ray.
  2. ring the vet mate
  3. you probably have nothin to worry about, ask a vet.
  4. give plenty of water...it may have just upset its tummy...u know spicy food can cause upset tummies...other than that I would not worry about it unless she was having much worser symptoms...why bother the vet and have to pay money not needed if all she is doing is whining....
  5. Take him to the vet. He just might be having trouble passing it, but bones are not for swallowing. He sounds like he's in pain. Poor thing.
  6. Definetly take it to the vet it could also be the hot sauce on the chicken is doing a total insult on your dogs stomache. you might want to conider putting that kind of food in your outside trashcan when your done with it.
  7. Talk to your vet and let him/her know what is happening. If your really can't get the dog to the vet right away you need to watch for vomiting and liquid stool. My dog, a St. Bernard, ate an entire turkey drumstick without chewing and lived to tell the tale. He did have some pretty uncomfortable few days however. My vet had us feed him Metamucil, sorry I think I spelled that wrong in order to regulate his bms. That was over a year ago and Jackson is still driving us nuts. :) Good luck.
  8. try to convinece your dog to eat hot dogs
  9. My poodle dug through the trash and ate chicken bones 2 years ago. After a few hours, he began having bloody stools, and became very weak. I took him to the vets right away. The bones had splintered, and were causing damage to his insides. Eventually, they passed through, but he did require fairly extensive treatment at the vets. Do take your dog in as soon as the vet opens. My dog is fine now, but believe me, I have secured the trash container. I wish you luck.
  10. bones cause splintering but the reason for whining may be the bones are stuck in between its teeth.
  11. Just watch her very closely. Chances are she will be okay. If she starts to show distress take her to the ER vet.
  12. DON'T THINK ABOUT LETTING YOUR DOG EAT IT!!! your dog might die have an internal injure!!! you can only give your dog bones if it's raw!!! it's not the spice!!! get your dog to the vet. NOW.
  13. My best advice is, try to reach ANY vet as soon as possible. You're better off having a false alarm than losing your precious girl! She might be sick from the sauces, but she might also have swallowed whole pieces of chicken bone, which is really bad! those bones can be really sharp and cause damage to the internal organs. But what I recommend (from past experience) is to let her have plenty of water, and cook around half a cup of plain white rice, and let it cool before feeding it to her. This will help her digest what she ate in the meantime of reaching a vet. (my mini schnauzer had tummy problems, and this is what the vet recommended) Hope your little sweetie will be fine! I know what it feels like when your dog has tummy problems!
  14. Are you giving her enough chew toys?? If you are not than you need to get some more because dogs love to bite and chew on things. Can you tell me where you got your westie?? Im looking for one too and i can't find one!! Good luck with your pup!!:)
  15. TO THE VET!
