Can I bake or boil frozen chicken wings?

I have a bag of frozen chicken wings that I want to prepare tonight, its too late to put them in the crock pot...can I bake the frozen chicken wings or do I have to defrost them first? I also heard that boiling the chicken wings before baking them will take the fat out and result in a crispier chicken wing...anyone heard of this???

  1. no I would not cook them frozen chicken. I would defrost them first because it is chicken they need to all the way cooked so you do not get sick that way they are evenly cooked
  2. You can boil them first, but don't leave them in for more than 5-8 minutes. Drain the well, shake off the excess water, and toss them in a bowl with your favorite barbecue sauce or glaze. Spread them out on a cookie sheet or baking dish and bake at 350 for half an hour, or until they're crisp and cooked to your liking.
  3. Boiling it first would dry them out. You need some fat, chicken can dry out very fast. Just thaw them in the microwave or run cool water over a well sealed bag.
  4. Bake - absolutely - you can go directly from freezer to covered baking dish -just add 20 minutes to cook time to allow to thaw. I don't know what time it is where you are but a crockpot will take about 6hrs on average so unless you have the time skip the crockpot. Boiling won't work for the chicken wings it will actually make them over cook and begin to fall apart. For crispier/less fat wings - don't use a sauce that has fat and use a roasting tray to elevate the wings 2" above the bottom of the pan to allow fats to drip down and prevent resorption. Good Luck!
  5. For a time saver, Boil first. This will defrost them. Bake them afterwards!
  6. Hi, you can cook frozen chicken portions without defrosting, but not a whole chicken as it is too dense to cook properly. Boil a pan of salted water or with a chicken stock cube. Once it is boiling, add your chicken wings and put on the lid. Switch off the heat. Leave them in the pot for 10mins. Remove and dry on kitchen paper and roast in the oven for about 15 - 20 mins. My favourite way to keep chicken moist is to use the switch off method for chicken breasts then quickly pan fry for colour and flavour. Yum.
  7. Simmer them in some water, and then broil.
