Chook Me!

Has anyone here ever fried chicken wings in a turkey fryer?

If so, how did they turn out? I have a big bag of frozen wings that I am going to either bake, slow cook in a crock pot, or fry in a turkey fryer. If you fried them, did you defrost them first? Also, how did you go about using sauces? I have a recipe for a great sauce but I'm not certain if you fry them first and then baste them in the sauce or baste them first and then fry them. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

  1. We deep fry chx wings all the time @my restaurant from frozen. It takes about 8-10 min. check by picking out the biggest piece and doing the nick and peek method. No pink please. Then we toss them with 2 parts Franks red hot mixed with 1 part honey.
  2. You would certainly fry then baste. To do so otherwise, would just result in the sauce being fried off! Personally, I've always just baked my wings; coat them in flour (frozen) and then bake them at 375 for about 40 minutes till they're done. I would be afraid of them getting over-cooked in the fryer, since they're so small and don't really have a lot of meat on them. Good luck.
