What are your views about the dixie chicks and everything that happened with it?
I think that The Dixie Chicks were criticized horribly for making the remark about Bush. Freedom of speech lets them say what they want. I am glad that Natalie spoke her mind and I will always be a big fan for it. They are a wonderful group and Bush is an awful President to me. I don't agree with him at all.....what are your views on it?
Public Comments
- i could care lessi mean i like their songs and all but i really don't care what happens with them
- They were right about Bush, as more and more people are finding out (23% approval rating for Bush) As a group, I think they are very talented
- I'm not a fan of their music but otherwise I totally agree with you. It was ridiculous that they got raked over the coals for giving their opinion. I've heard that it was "treasonous" because they said it in England during the war but I used to live in England and trust me, they HATE George Bush so it's not like it shocked anyone there. I like their song "Not Ready to Make Nice" and I'm glad they didn't back down.
- I view the Dixie Chicks as a talented musicians and vocalists, end of subject, thanks for asking.
- She can give her opinion but she should make sure she has all the facts before she shoots her mouth off.
- They have freedom of speech, and they were actually never denied that. Their genre of music is geared toward a typically conservative, patriotic group of people. I think Toby Keith went overboard with his part in the whole thing, but music fans have just as much right to dislike and boycott a band as Natalie had to speak her mind. The 1st Amendment guarantees us freedom of speech, but it does not guarantee respect and support from the people around you when you say something controversial.
- I think the Dixie Chicks were brought down unfairly for what Natalie said...One person in particular boosted his career with harsh critisim of the Chicks. I won't call his name, but I LOVED Natalie's T-shirt that said, FUTK.
- They make good music and kept their integrity by not backing down. It turns out they were right.
- They weren't criticized horribly for their remarks about bush...they were criticized about their remarks about patriotic country songs. Yes, there was a lot of coverage about their remarks about Bush, but nobody really disagreed with them...nobody likes Bush! But when Natalie spoke out about the coverage, she dissed Toby Keith and the like for singing Patriotic songs like "American Soldier" and "Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue." She went too far with these comments. If they would have left it alone after the Bush remarks, they would still be making number ones on country radio. But criticizing patriotic country songs because you don't agree with the war...that's just wrong. I don't agree with the war, but I still support the troops! And that is the view held by nearly all country music fans! What killed me was the fact that they decided to claim that they never officially declared themselves and "country." All of this was after the fact that radio stopped playing their songs! And after they decided that they were no longer a country band, they won 800 grammys in the country music Genre! That was bull! It just goes to show you how out of touch with country music the Grammys really are! Then, after they made their comeback they made a comment about not wanting fans that have their CD in a five-disc changer with Toby Keith and Reba McIntire! WTF? So now, fans are only supposed to listen to one band!? They don't know anything about country fans! My favorite moment about this whole controversy was when Reba was hosting the ACMs. She said "I don't know why I was so nervous about hosting this...If the Dixie Chicks can sing with their foot in their mouths, then I can definitely host this show!" The crowd went wild after this comment. That just proves that the Dixie Chicks were wrong. They weren't wrong in their comments about Bush, but they were wrong in their follow up comments! I will still listen to their old music, because they are a good band, and Natalie does have a good voice, but they no longer have a place in country radio after all that has happened!
- I didn't care what they said to the president, but when they attacked Toby Keith for stating his views on the whole situation, I lost whatever shard of respect I had for them. Most country stations in my area are boycotting that group, and I say good for them.
- I stand by the Chicks! Bush has got his head in his @ss!
- I won't get into a political debate on here but there is something said about a person when they can't defend there own country! I will not listen to them anymore, they were wrong.
- Their music is much better than their politics.
- They have their own opinions and a right to them. I don't think they should have been treated the way they were for their opinions. Sure, they didn't do it tastefully, but then who does!!! I think they should be left alone, and if people really appreciate their music, whether or not opinions differ on whatever topic, they will continue to love the Dixie Chicks... You Can like someone's music and still disagree with their views....
- I don't care what they said. Everyone is entitled to voicing their own opinion, even if it's wrong. That's why it's called an opinion. I could've said ten times worse than they did, but I'm not in the public eye so I won't get rediculed for it. It's so one-sided. I love the Dixie Chicks, they're so amazingly talented. And if I didn't agree with their opinions that wouldn't make me love their music any less. People are power hungry and so ready to shoot people down that are more well off than them. Jealousy is an ugly thing. And such strong opinions that you think no one else can possibly be right, that's just as bad. There's no "wrong" or "right" when it comes to OPINIONS.
- They have the freedom to say and do whatever they want. It's not only what they said about Bush ,but the disrespect for this country. With that said, they also have the freedom to leave this country.
- Didn't the whole thing just get so blown out of proportion.. They were just giving their opinion - when it comes to war it is just a very touchy subject - I am just happy to see people that do stand by their own opinion when jumped on by those who think differently. The lowest point of this whole debarcle though would have to be the American Red Cross refusing to accept a sizeable donation from them because of the whole controversy, what a sad shameful moment for all those people who could have been helped by that.
- i think that they should not be played or even acknowledged on country radio for what they said...
