What is the story behind the dixie chicks song "Not ready to make nice" ?
I heard that someone in the dixie chicks said something they shouldn't of or something and I wanted to know what it was. Because they made the song Not ready to make nice for something. What is the explanation??

- I BELIEVE IT WAS A STORY ABOUT THEM AND GEORGE BUSH. SRRY I CANT GET OUT OF CAPS LOCK
- i have no clue..but this should help http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Not_Ready_to_Make_Nice

- Back when the country still believed in Bush, the DCs were overseas and during a concert Natalie commented that they were ashamed that the prez is from Texas. Americans saw this in the paper, and there was a big uproar. They got banned from radios, lost fans, got nasty letters, and even some serious death threats and had to hire extra security. They wrote the song as a kind of I'm still here anthem.
- they took all sorts of flack about saying they were ashamed to be from Texas because of Bush. Now that Bush has proven himself to be a threat to humanity and a basic horses a**, everyone is trying to kiss up to the Dixie Chicks and get them on the same shows that took them off before. I guess they are having none of it.
- It has to do with the remark Natalie made while in London a few years ago. She said she was ashamed that President Bush was from Texas. I'm surprised you didn't hear about it. People started boycotting their shows and stopped buying their records. I think it's died down some now. I always liked their music but in a way I don't think she should've said what she did. Check the link for a story about the incident.
- i think it was about some death threats that Natalie Maines recieved im not sure though
- They were doing a concert over in England just prior to the invasion of Iraq. They are Texas natives. They told the audience that they were ashamed that the President was from Texas. Lots of country music fans, generally being more politically conservative than other music fans, were offended and began boycotting their records and a lot of country music stations refused to play their records after that. I lot of people seem to be offended that they were overseas when they said that and that seem to be trying to appeal to an English audience that was overwhelmingly against the war. They felt that some principle of American solidarity or unity had been violated. I don't get that. An opinion is an opinion no matter where you say it. My personal feeling (even though I agree with their basic sentiment..I can't stand the President either) is that they shouldn't have made it about Texas. Does everybody in Texas have to have the same opinions? No. Texas is a very diverse state with lots of different political opinions and cultures. (However, for the 70% of Texas, that identifies itself as conservative, religious, and Republican, I'm sure you will be happy to know that all that diversity has been safely confined to Austin.) One thing I have to emphasize: I was not born in Texas, I have never been to Texas. All I know about Texas is what I read in the newspapers and what I've gotten out of Larry McMurtry novels. Also, my opinions about the relative diversity of Texas are derived only from Molly Ivins' columns and a T-shirt I once saw that said "Keep Austin weird."
- Comments about the song by band members The band members of the Dixie Chicks released their comments about writing the songs of Taking the Long Way through the website Frontpage Publicity [3]. * Emily commented that the song is "special because it's autobiographical" and that they "have all gone through so many emotions about the incident. We talked for days with Dan before putting pen to paper, and he really helped get inside our heads and put these feelings out. And once we had this song done, it freed us up to do the rest of the album without that burden." * Martie commented: "I realized I had suppressed a lot about the death threat. It all came flooding back in the process of writing this song. I think we all realized just how painful it had been for us." * Natalie stated that the Dixie Chicks "tried to write about the incident a few times, but [they got] nervous that [they're] being too preachy or too victimized or too nonchalant."
- Its about the comment they made about President Bush and the war. In others words they are not sorry.
- They think they have freedom of speech and no one else does basically. They think they can say anything they want, and everyone has to support them, even if we don't agree. Well that isn't how it works. Natalie "loudmouth" Maines once again opened her mouth and inserted her foot. She was in London and said she was ashamed that the President was from Texas. So people got upset and didn't want to hear them. So then they got mad and said they didn't want the fans listening to them. She started a feud with Toby Keith which is where the problem REALLY came in, and the REAL reason they were banned from the radio for years. Now that people don't like President Bush she is trying to sell herself as look what I said about him. The same people who are buying her music don't know, or care, about the ENTIRE story.
- As a "Real Texan" and not an Austin lover, I'm ashamed they are from Texas.... Maybe Austin will take them back but not the rest of the Republic.
- something to do with the pres. and the out come for her...
