How do I know what eggs in my chicken coop are fertile?

  1. You don't know for sure until the chick starts to develop. You check them with a bright light. But if you've got a rooster and your hens are healthy, odds are most of them will be fertile.
  2. You need to give it a week or so after they are laid. Then place the egg between you and a bright light, so you can see inside it. If it is fertilized, then there will be a visiable 'dot' or 'blob' where the chicken embryo is developing. All the best!
  3. I can tell you if your rooster is among all your hens then chances are they all are..Your hen will sit on them when she has quite a few under her..Leave her alone and wait..I know if you crack one open, and there is a blood spot in it, then its fertile...If your only want one hen to produce any chicks, then seperate your rooster with a couple of hens..After then hens have hatched the eggs, get the rooster away from the chicks, as they might kill them...Also, if you introcuce the chicks back with the other hens, they will surely pick on them, till death.
  4. If you have a male running with the females, then all the eggs will be fertile. The ratio is usually 1 male for every 20 female
