What did the dixie chicks do that everyone is talking about?
I have heard people talking about the dixie chicks and that they dont agree with them, and then I'm Not Ready To Make Nice came out. What did they do?
Public Comments
- People have still not gotten over Natalie Maines's comment about being ashamed of being from same state that Bush is from, Texas. It's funny; their album has been #1 for two weeks, but no one's lining up to buy tickets to their shows.
- Well recently i don' t know... but a while back, one of them said that George W. Bush give Texas a bad name or something like that.
- Said they were ashamed bush was from texas... all while in another country!!
- that one fat chick lost a lot of weight. as a result, people are taking them seriously again.
- Um, they bashed our President and his decison of war. Although many do not have to agree with the decision of war, they should support our President, and the Dixie Chicks didn't. They just sat back and talked crap.
- they talked bad about bush and terror
- When in France during a concert I think it was Natalie said they are ashamed that Bush is from Texas . Big backlash for them. That was a couple of years ago
- They said that they were embarassed that Bush was from Texas. It's not a big deal it's just that they sing country music and most country music stars are hateful conservatives.
- the lead singer said that she was ashamed to be from texas becaus bush was rom there too
- They bashed Bush, calling him a terrorist while on tour overseas.
- It stems from the comments Natalie made about President Bush and the war. She spoke out against it, and there was a lot of backlash. Toby Keith and a few others were particularly vocal about it. That's where the song came from.
- It happened a while ago. They were in some other country touring and during one of there concerts they mentioned that they were embarresed to be from a country that is led by an idiot. that got everyone upset. Even Wal Mart had a ban on selling there albums.
- they slammed President Bush at a concert
- They used their freedom of speech to reveal their feelings towards President Bush. They have every right to express their feelings, and I think they're awesome!
- it's okay to question or comment on your leadership. but not to or in another country. that is just disrespectful.
- They spoke their mind, something some people have forgot that we are allowed to do here in America!
- They openly voiced their opinions on how the feel about George W. Bush. She used her freedom of speech right and everyone got upset.
- In addition to the comments about Bush, one of them recently said they did not need county music fans. Apparently the feeling is mutual as they have had to cancel a number of concert in the US.
- They opened their big stupid blabber mouths.
- they practiced this little thing we call freedom of speech, bitched about the president, and America went nuts...... it worries me that if those people knew me ever listened to me in my rants, I'd probably be in jail somewhere......he is an idiot, president or not, and I'm ashamed too......
- who cares
- NEW YORK (CNN) -- Dixie Chicks lead singer Natalie Maines was singing a new tune late Friday, this time in the form of an apology to President Bush for saying she was ashamed that he was from Texas. "As a concerned American citizen, I apologize to President Bush because my remark was disrespectful. I feel that whoever holds that office should be treated with the utmost respect," Maines said in her latest statement. Her comments deriding the president this week have sparked outrage among some country music fans, with some stations boycotting the Grammy-winning group's songs. In a poll on Atlanta, Georgia's KICKS 101.5, 76 percent of its listeners responded with "If I could, I'd take my CDs back." Maines issued a statement earlier that fell short of offering an apology. In her latest statement, even as the lead singer extended an olive branch, she expressed reservations about a war with Iraq. "We are currently in Europe and witnessing a huge anti-American sentiment as a result of the perceived rush to war. While war may remain a viable option, as a mother, I just want to see every possible alternative exhausted before children and American soldiers' lives are lost. I love my country. I am a proud American," Maines said. In a concert in London, England, this week, Maines told the crowd: "Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas." The group hails from Texas. The Dixie Chicks kick off a three-month U.S. tour May 1 in Greenville, South Carolina. BTW: note from me:all their CD's that people burned in piles,,,,, had to be purchased $$ heard on interview on Fresh Air, NPR
- Well Natalie made a few comments about Mr. President Bush that a lot of people didn't agree with. So they went in hiding for 3 years. Alot of the country music stations are just now slowly beginning to play there music again.
- They highy direspected Geroge bush even tho i dont like him my self but......................
- Everything stemmed from Nathalie Maines (lead singer) saying she was ashamed to be from texas where the president is from..BUT...did u also know that President Bush sent the Dixie Chics a letter telling them to stick to singing, and if they did not keep there mouths shut, their singing careers would be over....
- They publicly bad-mouthed the stupid ass president of the United States!
- Who cares but I think the Chicksey Dicks and a lot of others need to stay the hell out of politics. All they are spouting is their opinion, and we all have those' and it is rarely based on any facts. Basically saying what they 'think' Joe public wants to hear for controversy or 'extra fame points. Certainly ain't for the good of the country....
- there talking because they were talking about Bush
- first the dixie chicks went to London and bad mouthed the President of the U.S.of A. Gorge W. Bush then some of their fan didn't like the fact that the d cs were bad mouthing Bush so than the d cs started verbally attaching the fans that didn't agree with with them about Bush and the d cs are bad mouthing other country singers that don't agree with them.it looks like the d cs have forgot who bought all of their CD s and made them successful and have made them multi millionaires.
- They or she bashed Bush.
- I think people in the entertainment industry should stick to entertaining and keep their political views to themselves!
- The statements about the president are old news here is her most recent addition of fuel to the fire from England yet again. Maines is testing Americans again by questioning patriotism in British newspaper The Daily Telegraph. She says, "The entire country (US) may disagree with me, but I don't understand the necessity for patriotism. Why do you have to be a patriot? About what? This land is our land? Why? "You can like where you live and like your life, but, as for loving the whole country... I don't see why people care about patriotism." She has also criticized fans and stated that patriotism displayed in country music videos sickens her. Frankly I don't really care what Natalie Maines thinks about the war, the country, the president, or anything else for that matter. She is an American and has the right to free speech. However rights work both ways. Natalie has the right to spout whatever crap she wants, but the people who have to listen to it also have the right to say we are not going to buy your product or support your career. What really annoys me is the people who scream about the right to free speech, then complain when other people express free speech in the other direction. It's very simple you have the right to your opinion and I have the right to mine, but if I don't like your opinion I also have the right not to buy your product. If enough of us don't buy your product you go bankrupt. As for radio stations not playing the Dixie Chick music, well that just market forces ar work. They are going to give the people what they want, so long as those people represent a majority. That is just the way it works in real life gang.
- I find it funny that people can defend the Ditzy Chunks rights to free speech but then go on to bash anyone who has an opinion other than theirs. I feel that the girls disrespected our great country but also recognize their right to free speech. We also have the right to criticize them and the right to not buy their CDs or their concert tickets.
- They said... In an interview with UK's Telegraph newspaper, Robison accused some country artists of jumping on the anti-Chicks bandwagon to further their own careers. She said, "A lot of artists cashed in on being against what we said or what we stood for because that was promoting their career, which was a horrible thing to do. A lot of pandering started going on, and you'd see soldiers and the American flag in every video. It became a sickening display of ultra-patriotism." Maines continued, "The entire country may disagree with me, but I don't understand the necessity for patriotism. Why do you have to be a patriot? About what? This land is our land? Why? You can like where you live and like your life, but as for loving the whole country... I don't see why people care about patriotism." Can'y give up can they?
- Well besides the Bush Comment.. they have made several comments about country music listeners saying they dont need country music. even though it made them rich. They say patrotism is stupid, even though they enjoy the security and freedom in our country.. then finally they say they would rather have a FEW devoted fans than alot of listeners that "dont get them". Plus they say they dont want to be in the same CD changer with Reba and Toby Keith. looks like they are getting their wish.
