Chook Me!

We have a chicken coop and something opened the door and ate one chicken. What could that be?

  1. A large raccoon or maybe fox if it's a difficult door to open or a dog or coyote if it's an easy door to open. Less likely: wolves, bears, your neighbors
  2. A dragon!!!! OR the BIG BAD WOLF!!
  3. Could have been anything... Fox Coyote Wild Dog Large Raccoon even a Possum Those are the most likely choices. It could have also been something like a Lynx Cougar Wolf I think it depends on where you live.
  4. a fox, bobcat, coyote, wolf,
  5. could be a fox, racoon, wild dog. we have had that happen before.
  6. it could be a fox or a raccoon, coyotee, wild dog. really it all depends on where u live
  7. depending on where you live it could be a cougar or lynx. i dont think a bear would be smart enough to open the door and steal or eat a chicken. maybe it was a theif. maybe a fox wolf or coyote
  8. Raccoons and possums are predators of chickens, so if you have any of those around it very well could have been one of them.
  9. Could be a large cat, dog or racoon. Poor chicken :(
  10. Racoons. They're smart. .... And they can figure out ways to open chicken coops, reach into the chicken wire, dig underneath the fence, and much more. I've had racoons take many of my chickens. Sorry that you lost one. You can set up a friendly trap, and maybe let it loose in a woods somewhere? Good luck, ☻☺☻Maggee96☻☺☻
  11. sorry to hear about your chicken. it depends on where you live. there are different predators in different regions. for example, 2 florida panther cubs ate 5 out of my 6 chickens right through a chainlink fence. It was awfull, i was very upset as these are my pets. I now have 8 more chickens and a much larger pen around their coop, and their coop has several layers of wire and screen over the windows and the door, which has a latch lock that we lock at night after they all go in. it's a pain in the neck, but so far so good. honestly, a one shot meal sounds like the traits of a fox. most of the other predators would have eaten them all. a fox will eat a meal, and return later for another one.
  12. Could have been that someone by accident may have not latched it all the way ..thus making it less difficult to get in to.Coyotes are notorious for eating chickens. Hope this helps.
