What do you think of the Dixie Chicks and their political display?
I know this is an old story, but they're starting to re-surface in the news lately.
Public Comments
- Why did they get bashed for stating an opinion? I never could understand that. Whatever happened to free speech? I applaud them for stating what they believed, it's more than most people do.
- It's the USA, we still have freedom of speech (I think). It's their right to express their views and more power to them if they make popular music and some money along the way.
- As silly as most other celebrities. . .
- Who cares as long as they still rock!
- you know the lead singer..??? i banged her....
- I didn't know they were still around. Anyway, they are entitled to express their feelings about the government and I am entitled to express my feelings about their opinions. I chose to do it where they felt it most by not buying any more of their music or attending their concerts. Are you sure they're still together?
- I think the whole thing was an overreaction to a badly timed comment. Maines made a statement that ticked off the listeners of the radio stations that the Dixie Chicks need to get their music on the air. Whether the statement was true or not is secondary to the fact she made them to a foreign media service while overseas, a faux pas as far as the majority of country fans are concerned. However, I also think that their music has improved because of the (semi-forced) hiatus: the instrumentation is fuller, the emotion more pronounced, and their sound is (to me at least) fuller and less forced than their last album.
- What does free speech have to do with it?
- I think they should have thought about their target market. If they were a rock/punk/alternative...etc band no one would have cared. However, their market is the Bush is awesome crowd and that didnt go over well... obviously.
- The same thing I think of all celebrities who spout off about their political beliefs. SHUT UP! They are entertainers, I want them to entertain me. Opening their mouths about politics is a huge turn off to me. The Dixie Chicks screwed themselves. It amazes me that they took such offense to what happened. What did they expect? Yes, they have a "right" to say whatever they want. I have a "right" to no longer listen to them, buy their cds, see their shows, etc.\ As entertainers, those who open their mouths about politics or religion run the risk of ruining their careers. Fine example...look at Tom Cruise...who doesn't believe he is a nut job now after learning of Cruise's religious beliefs?
- I think the Dixie Chicks are American citizens and can say anything they want.... Who, as an American, would think otherwise?
- They do not like to make money.
- They did and still do have the right to say whatever they want. They have not lost any of their rights. The rest of the country has the right to call them morons and not buy their music. We all have the right to request that a radio station play or doesn't play them. Its the law of supply and demand. Its certainly no worse than a bunch of extremists asking a university not to convey an honorary degree to Rice for giving a commencement speech.
- Freedom of speech applies only if you are Republican. I hate Bush. He is the first one I have EVER hated. Now turn the cards a little bit and lets see what kind of boo hoo ing bitching and moaning would have happened if the Natalie would have said the same thing about President Clinton. PS Today's AP pic is a good pic of Bush. It depicts him as the porkhole poking idiot he is! Rock On Natalie! 29% approval? LMFAO
- i've supported them since day one. love their new song, it's like a big screw you to the people that complained for their simply expressing an opinion that many others share.
