Is hip-hop sort of a last ditch effort to save fading pop stars?

I saw a Ricky Martin video at the gym today featuring Fat Joe and some R&B chick dancing around (can't remember her name, they're all the same, you know). Anyway, that question popped into my head.

2. lol, sometimes Ive thought that too. However I've also thought the same about other genres of music such as rock (avril lavigne), punk (Good charlotte) and R&B (nelly fertardo,) Basically pop music is strictly trying to sell big time. In order to do that they gotta cater for the majority. Whatever music style is selling big at the time pop artists tend to manufacture their songs around that style. As for the song you mention, I guess hip hop is currently the most popular style of modern music.
