Chook Me!

buy or sell: there ''selling out'' is a business move that rappers make to better themselves?

interesting point someone made to me today and i have looked at it from this standpoint before but some of these die-hard ''fans'' call it ''selling out'' is it so wrong for a rapper to do a song about the club, money, girls etc if the song is jsut being made to push themselves further ahead evewn if they didnt start out like that y is it soo wrong at the end of the day can their not be passion about a song made for a club lets be honest if lupe fiasco can make a song about video games and be lyrical with it and its accepted whats wrong with making a song about the club a chick etc IF it can be done lyrically or are some people just too caught up on hip hop having t tell a story or be deep to reallize that NOT everyone is looking for a poem or a story some people just like to have a good time with their music EDIT-i tried to make this persons point make sense as best as i could but this is what was said

  1. Buy! Rapping for 'the art' or 'for fun' is retarded. You gotta eat.
  2. Only sometimes. It depends how broke they are.
  3. buy and sell.... b cuz it depends on what youre n it for.... for the artist that is interested in goin mainstream and "makin it big" i would say buy but for the 100's of underground artists who have been offered very lucrative record deals but turned it down bcuz of the terms (or reasons why they are making hip hip< ie: the art, for the message ect) i would say sell.... so it really depends if you ask me.....
  4. only ignorant folks would see a business move (not a business move that would compromise who they are and what they have been known to stand for) as selling out.....i sell all day!!
  5. Roffle at having a passion for going to clubs. You can have a song about girls and whatnot...but when you have 437574365 models shaking their butts in the video of that song..how is that bettering yourself? If you go from talking about how broke you were and how hard of a life you had and how much you appreciate the money to talking about touching some random girls a*s in the club..how is that bettering yourself?
  6. Don't forget that I can whup your ass... HMPH! But I don't think they do it to actually "better themselves," I think it's more so a way for them have a bigger fan base, along with make more money. But then there are others that just do it to try something new. So i'm not neccessarlily buying nor selling. With that being said though, I agree with the whole... What's so wrong with making a club song. I tend to actually be in the mood for that type of music sometimes. When i'm about to go out, there's no way in hell i'm going to be listening to some storytelling, controversial, political, type song.
  7. Sell: simple fact that if you really think about it they [rappers] make far less money then the people that sign their checks, therefore who is really getting pimped in the whole process? Most certainly not the guy rapping about being a pimp
