Can I get a tattoo here and still look professional?
I want to get a tattoo on the top of my foot. It will be only small words, and only black coloring. I work in a business-casual setting, but I want to know if this will be too much. I already have a tattoo on my shoulder that occasionally will show depending on the type of shirt I wear. I'm no biker chick, but I don't want to scare off my employers either. Also...for anyone who's gotten one, what's the pain like? I've heard that the foot is one of the most sensitive places to get a tattoo.

- most employers are ok with them. but just keep in mind the heal time for one on the top of your foot..you may have to wear sandals or flip flops for a few weeks while your new tattoo heals.
- wear boots or long pants to cover it. it will look kinda odd if you have heels on and the tattoo peeks out ...older employer may not get it they're old fashion.
- Tattoos don't look professional. (at least not yet). If you can't cover it, don't get it. If you get it, keep it covered at work. I have a few that peek out from time to time, and haven't had too many issues over the years. However, for best results, keep them covered while at the office. Tolerance for tattoos is growing, but the problem is just never know what kind of person you are dealing with. Better safe than sorry when a job is on the line.
- Please consider what u r doing first before you do it. if u feel uncomfortable and u still want to have one get it somewhere u will feel appropriate. Also somewhere were your employees dont feel differnt about you.
- If your employiers get scared off, then they have some problems.
- i think that the foot tattoos look very feminine, especially if the way you are talking about it, it sounds like everything would be fine.
- i have a tat on the top of my foot....and no one pays that much attention to ur feet for it to be unprofessional...i think u shuld go for it
- Maybe you could ask your employer before you get it done. That's what I would do if I was worried.
- I have one right below my ankle. The only time mine hurt is when he got towards the back of my foot, where that tendon is. I have had mine for over two months and I don't even think my employer has noticed it (and I work in a business setting). I know some people who have gotten tattoo's on top of their foot, they haven't said much about the pain, and if you are getting a small one (like i did), it shouldn't take more then 10-20 minutes. I think they look cute on top of your foot... i say go for it. Most people won't even notice!
- It really depends on your industry. I'm in the videogame industry and I have tattoos up and down both of my arms that are quite visable. I used to be so shy about them, but no one cared. My bosses love them and their originality. I've worked with many executives who've also liked them as well. But again, it's a different kind of industry. Most people don't seem to mind. I also have my lip done, so when I have to dress up for christmas parties or award shows, I think it just makes me look even more sassy :)
- you're employer shouldn't have a problem with it. It's practically always hidden from their view esp since it's your foot and something small like that and the placing is perfect. i mean if you went and got your face tattoo'd or your forearms then i see why the concern. i want to get stars going up my forearms but i dont know how my employer or future employer would handle it since i work in the medical field
- If it's on the top of your foot, you can always wear shoes that cover it, boot or socks/stockings so as not to make potential employers wary. It's easy to hide, so I wouldn't worry.
- "Professional" and "Tattoo" don't belong in the same sentence.
