Can you feed oats to baby chicks?

We are in the process of ordering baby chicks and we are wondering if we can feed them oats.

  1. yes but its better to feed them chick starter
  2. ya sure why not!! (dont blame me if yo chick gets sick)
  3. No. You should purchase starter feed/chick feed made especially for baby chicks. It is formulated to provide them with all the necessary nutrients. Chick feed and clean water, keep it available for them 24/7 and they hopefully will grow into beautiful roosters and hens!
  4. In a pinch you could feed them oatmeal (like for people) or corn meal (like you cook with), but whole oats are much too fibrous for a baby chick. They should be fed a chick ration with between 20 and 24% protein. Be sure they have fresh water in a shallow dish or chick fountain at all times and keep them warm. Between 85 and 90 for the first week. Gradually cooling them down as they begin to feather.
