How do you keep from cooling the incubator while turning the eggs by hand?

I have a still air incubator and I turn the eggs by hand, I am concerned that while I am turning the eggs that the incubator will become to cool and the eggs will be harmed, any suggestions on what I need to do to keep this from happening?

  1. well as long as it doesn't take you 15 mins to turn the eggs, i wouldn't be too concerned. You will be fine, just dont be really slow.
  2. Pom-Mom is right, just do it as quickly as possible, and it wont be an issue.
  3. This is actually a normal cycle in the eggs production. If you think about it the mother gets off the nest for almost an hour each day to eat, poop and bathe. They are much better than we are hatching. So the cooling cycle isnt hurting at all in fact propably helping.
  4. dont worry ,its actually good thast air goes in that way there is some kind of air sirculation, and i agree with girl above
  5. I don't know how many eggs or what type you have in there, but I had 36 Button Quail eggs, and I could turn them all in one go without affecting the temperature by more than 1 degree (BQ eggs are difficult to turn by hand because they are so small, so it might take a little longer than a larger egg). The humidity is more what I was worried about, as opening it seemed to suck all the moist air right out. You could always drape a towel over most of the opening to keep everything in. Just leave enough space to fit your hand and see what you're doing.
