Chook Me!

Why is it socially acceptable to eat poultry without utensils but not beef?

These are the questions that plague the minds of 18 year old college bound girls at 5am when they cannot sleep. Why is it socially acceptable to eat chicken or any sort of poultry with your hands, but not steak or roast beef or pork chops (minus barbequed ribs, but those are barbequed and do not count as normal food.)??

  1. poultry has natural handles drumssticks and chickenwings
  2. Because chicken is too fiddly to mess about with knives and forks. I think it's mainly legs and wings, because of the bones
  3. Depends what social circles you travel in. Hnagout with ritzy Nor-easterners and you will definitely eat your chicken (non-fried) with a fork and knife. Go down south to a Bojangles chicken rest. and you will look very stupid eating fried chicken with a knife and fork. On the other hand head down to some open ranges in Texas cow country and you will be eating your greasy steak out at an open camp fire with nothing but your paws. :-)
  4. YES
  5. you know poultry is soft and no chance to throw on other but beef or mutton has a lot of chance to trow on other if you eat without any utensils
  6. Steak, roast beef, and port chops are foods that can be easially cut up by a knife and fork, while chicken that is attached onto the bone and is easier to remove meat from the bone by holding it in your hands and remove the meat with your teeth.
