Chook Me!

What is this glass dish that has a fog coming out of it?

Years ago at a christmas sale in our mall, there was these nifty little glass dishes that are on stands that have some kind of ultrasonic light in them that makes water evaporate looking like steam/fog. I need to raise the humidity in my egg incubator, and the apparatus that is in this bowl would help me. But I don't know what it is called. Help. Please, my eggs depend on it, they are dying left and right because I can't keep the humidity high enough! Where can I find them?

  1. My daughter has one and she calls it a mister.
  2. You can get what you are describing by looking at table top fountains or water features, either locally or on the internet where they are called fog machines. However, for an incubator, I think you would probably be better off either getting a humidifier (like the kind designed to sit beside a bed and help a sick person - therefore at a drug store) or put in a small fountain from the same water feature place. Hardware stores also sell them and the pump is about a 2" cube and they often have a tube with a spray head on top - they are put under water, with the tube sticking above the surface and make a nice spray that will evaporate. You can partially solve the problem instantly by hanging a wet towel in the incubator.
