Chook Me!

How do I get my roosters to not be so mean?

I've noticed that when I have roosters born to an actual mother, who has sat on the eggs for a month, they aren't as aggressive towards people as when they are born in an incubator and raised under a heat lamp. Every time I have had a rooster born to a mother, they have been friendly towards us, yet they are always A Holes when they grow up under a heat lamp. Is there a way to simulate this so they are not aggressive?

  1. I don't think there's actually much of a correlation between a rooster's birth and its aggressiveness. It probably has more to do with how much attention it gets from people as a chick. If you spend more time holding the rooster from a young age it will be nicer. Some breeds are also friendlier than others.
