How long is the pipping process of chicks?
We have 3 out of 8 chicks pipping their shells, one is out (with a little help), one we helped a little but it is not completely out. I need to know how much if any we should help and when,

- Pipping helps the chicks get stronger, this process could last from 30 minutes to 2 hours. a bit of helping never hurts. Sometimes chicks don't make it, sometimes they are very healthy and get out rather quickly. I am no chicken expert, I bought a baby chick from a vendor last year and she has had some babies and i thought it was a very neat experience. Enjoy your new kids!!!
- Using a broody hen to incubate eggs is an on going process at my farm, when i first notice pipping,i check on the eggs after a few hours, usually i get to see one or two newly hatched chickens, with signs of pipping in the other eggs, from then on i leave well alone not wanting to disturb the hen nor allow chickens undue exposure to the atmosphere. I give her a good day to herself, after twenty to twenty four hours i am sure all the chicks that will hatch are out,yet i carefully inspect other eggs, usually they show no signs of activity.
