Chook Me!

Can I refrigerate an uncooked chicken and rice casserole?

I want to take a casserole to a family who has just had a new baby. Can I throw the chicken, rice, cream of chx soup, milk etc. together and refrigerate? Or will that make the casserole go bad or taste bad?

  1. Yes you can prepare and bake later with no problem
  2. I don't think I would it the chicken is uncooked. If you are using cooked chicken then it should be ok.
  3. I see no problem if you cook it within 24 hours of preparation. I've done that several times.
  4. If the chicken is raw I would not add it until right before you cook it. But just put it in a separate bag and put it in the fridge too. It shouldn't inconvenience you too much. Good luck. :)
  5. You sure can do that. It is up to you if you put the chicken in raw, or cooked. I like to add cooked chicken to casseroles so all I have to worry about is hetaing the casserole and not cooking the chicken.
  6. Salmonella Alert!!!! Chicken is always safer when it is cooked. I would not take the chance of using it or transporting it raw. You never know when the family is going to cook it.
