Can eggs whose chicken are close to an older garage contain lead?
I would like to get some chicken. I know that soil close to an older garage could contain lead. How close to the garage can I put the chicken without a possible lead contamination? We live in Southern California( gets very hot here). What is the best way to keep these chicken?

- I don't know if hens eggs can carry lead or not... Maybe if you just buy a few bags of cheap topsoil- & spread it around where the chickens are apt to be scratching- it won't be a problem. ...
- Heat has nothing to do with it. Chickens eat insects. Buy the chickens. If you know about raising chickens, you know you have to supply grit.
- lead can be in the grass and or the insects around the garage, so some level of lead contamination is possible in the eggs.
- never thought about that, but chickens of course peck and eat objects on the ground, including gravel and bits of flaked paint, etc. which helps make the egg shell hard. I guess if there was lead paint chips on the ground it could wind up in the egg, but I think it would be too minimal to hurt.
