Harvest moon ds cute: Question on material stone?

Can someone please explain to me how supplying my own material stone for gotz to build a poultry shed works. I've already started mining for gold and silver, etc. but do i only need to get 420 of one of these stone materials to work?

1. you can't get material stone in mines, but there's only two ways to get it. 1.buy it from gotz for 200g or 2.smash rocks with your hammer!
