Chook Me!

So, what do you think about...?

Natural Balance dog food? I want to feed my dog's a healthy food. In the past, I have been saying Beneful, but I realized I was talking about the wrong brand. I meant to say Natural Balance. A couple of things about the type of food I'm looking for: Above all, we are looking for an economical food. That is one of the reasons we have been switching on and off food brands, generic, brand name, etc. Bad, I know, but that's the way it was since we weren't really looking into the nutrition of the foods. So economical, and healthy is a key. We have gone through trying a lot of different types of food with our pups. The youngest is a 4 month old Boxer baby girl. Bailey will eat whatever type of food we give her. She is currently munching on a pork chop. Raw, of course. The oldest is our year old labbie. Ginger is actually rather picky about what type of kibble and wet food she eats. She really does not like Alpo, Iams, and is currently growing more despondent with the Purina. We recently bought a different type of food at Vons. This one is Priority Total Pet Care. In case you don't know what this contains, the first five ingredients are: Sufficient water for processing Meat By-Products Poultry By-Products Chicken Beef Yes, I know that is horrible. However, this has been the first dog food that Ginger has actually eaten without picking at it. Now, getting my story back to the Natural Balance, we buy the dog food rolls, which we then cut into pieces and then use to treat, or even as a little special snack for them. On top of their love for it, it seems to be very healthy for them. First two ingredients in the Lamb Roll, is 1. Lamb, 2. Lamb lungs. So, what do you think about the Natural Balance as a staple food supply for them. I don't want people to rag on my not having a raw diet for them. I don't want people to say that Natural Balance is like fast food, and horrible. I want facts, experiences, something on which I can actually rely. No ragging, no insulting, no stupid comments. So if you have any suggestions, the floor is yours. Uh, I would just like to add, if you possibly can, please tell me the reason why you think one brand is better than another. I don't want lists, but would appreciate WHY it's better.

Because all of the foods I listed are GOOD. They have actual MEAT in them as the first ingrediant. They don't have byproducts, animal poop, or corn. that is why. EDIT- Well I like the thought that the dog is getting more protein in its diet. Meat by-product is what kind of meat???? It could be road kill, or maybe a euthanized dog or cat. The list is long . I know I would not eat a by-product. yuck!
  4. I think the Priority is fine... avoid corn, soy, etc because dogs are carnivores and it makes no sense to be feeding them grains. Dogproject is a good site, check it out.
  5. I actually don't know a lot about lamb OR lamb lungs for a dog, but as far as I know it is decent, and it's good that the first ingredient is an actual meat. I'd say, based on reviews I'm seeing, that it's a good food, so try it out. Of course, remember to gradually switch, and monitor for chances of allergies, and whatnot. Another economic and healthy food I've heard about is Kirkland from Costco, if you ever need to know that :)
