Chicken wings found in fridge 2 days past best-before date: still safe to cook & eat? 2 mins in micro > grill?

Chicken wings found in fridge 2 days past best-before date: still safe to cook & eat? 2 mins in micro then brown under grill? I'll start to cook @3pm: I'm ex-martial arts & have done that kinda thing before: got economy size packs & used most of 'em in recommended time & finished em 2 days after best before .. date & it's never made me ill But what do you guys think? Han Solo! Tis I: Luke Skywalker's long lost bro' >> Puke Skywalker LOL I checked at 3pm & there were no replies, so I turned da grill on, having put da 4 wings on da grill pan before typing da question I turned 'em over @ 3.06 & one was slightly bbrown on the joint that stuck up highest My rule of thumb guess-ometer is to turn 'em over again right now Haha I just typed a detailed progress report, then accidental;ly hit a key that deleted it all Full points toall who said to smell 'em I also examined all 4 with my big corded nagnifying glass & there was no sign of discolouration on any of the 4 I'll turn 'em over again @ 3.30 I posted the question because mydear old ma very wisely encouraged me to experiment & to see any recipe as a guide only Put it this way: between college days & in between marriages, I musta had @ 15/16 years experience of living solo I've never ever had to throw any of my cooking away Flavour it w3ith sauces, herbs & spices, yes Put it back in a micro for extra time, yes But I just have a gut instinct that the 'nanny' state has produced over cautiuon bordering on - if not crossing the line of - paranoia, yes? Right after I do this 2nd turnover, I'll post that last bit as a separate question & link it, OK? Right back >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Hi *9 reply I'll read it as soon as I post this promised link to that much more general & fascinating question, which I hope y'all will circularise round any family & friends who are scared of cooking:- http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090302073713AADwNlT OK guys The hidden PC aka the human brain computed to turn 'em over again @ 3.45 I'll put a mix of Cajun & Jamaica Jerk herbs on the upwards side What combo of spices/herbs do ya recpmmend on the final turn @ 4pm? Sprinkling on that combo remindedme of the many recipes I've seen with precise weights & measures of each ingredient I'm trying to keep my face straight here, but I have never used kitchen scales in my life I also never use the oven, as it's so much easier to open up the grill & see progress than to bend down to an oven Also, that trick I usually do with meat is to visuall guage its thickness, then put it in the microwave for 2/3 minutes befor browning it under the grill The progress report thatr I said got accidentally deleted told ya that my butcher is @ 3rd generation in the biz He told me the 1st summer I was in Boootle that I cook more regularly than many women do: so many folk only buy convenience packets, etc, yes? Maybe it's partly cuz I can see my TV perfectly while I cook, but I just love cooking OH - before I do that final turnover, he did confirm my practice of microwavew forst then brown under the grill That combo of herbs/spices @ the final turnover Hey girls Ya shoulda smelt the delicious aroma that told me it was time for the final turn - almost eactly the time anticipated The combo I had in mind for the final turn was Chinese & Thai spices It aint da 1st time I've used that foursome, 2 on one side & 2 on the other My grill is about 16 feet away from my PC chair I never have to bob up & down every 2/3 minutes I did when I first lived alone, to make sure, but as ya build up experience & confidence, ya know ya can trust ya nose to tell ya when it's ready I'd say @ 3/4 more minutes till a mouthwatering chicken feast that will virtually fall off the bone I forgot to say that I spotted Raven Wing was joking Some of this, I'll transfer over to that general question The more I think @ it, the more I'm remonded of several eadio & TV discussions about why we 'baby boomers' are better & more successful risk takers I always did love flying by the seat of my pants Vision of holidaymakers googling that ?? Girls That was so delicious, I just fired up the grill & put the final 4 wings on Now spices & herbs >> Do you buy the tyrpes I do - with colour coded lids, so ya know what's most likely to go together? Yes: I'll post this to that specific question: I just thought it fair to compose this part here, having initiated the last edit over there Anyone else use the same herbs & spices on fish as ya do on chicken? I did the 1st turn on batch 2 @ 4.46 They are all slightly thicker than the 1st batch, so I put the ela#ectric grill on 3.5 instead of 3, for this first round When I do the 3rd turn @ 5pm, I'll turn grill down to 3 again, as I'm in no rush & slow 'n' easy is often best, yes? Besides, I'm jkust enjoying the Jason Upton gig @ Sky *580 AH: I was gonna say that I have 24 herbs/spices arranged in colourt groups I'm gionna use a different combo of 4 on this final batch & I honestly aint decided this time Any recommendations? I'll just post link WOW On that first turnover, all wings were a lovely golden colour So, @ 5.30, I'll turn again & put 2 herbs/spices on Then 2 others on the final turn when my nose tells me What combo do ya suggest? OK .. I decided on ground cumin & ground pepper on 1st side Ground coriander & Mild Curry Powder on 2nd side I'll just turn grill off >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Can I just very quickly share the real secret of such culinary success? One word >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Prayer I always talk to God while I shop & as I cook He cares about every detail of your life He counts the very hairs on yoiur head "He cares about people far more than he does about the birds of the air & the lilies of the field" As Jesus said Time to eat now Later on - @ 9ish - I'll make salad butties for my veg ration I always have fruit in stock for snacks & nuts "No >> Don't laff Titter ye not Oh >> Please yaselves !!" LOL

  1. I wouldn't. But then I've had food poisoning a few times and therefore I am perhaps overly cautious. I'd rather pay someone a couple of quid extra (or whatever the chicken costs) than have food poisoning. Your call. See you back here tomorrow when you're chucking up and want advice!
  2. No way! chicken is high risk in the bacteria dept!
  3. Smell them. That is the best indicator with chicken. If it smells the least bit 'off' toss 'em, otherwise go ahead and cook them and enjoy.
  4. If they were stored properly at the store and at your house, they probably will be fine. I would smell them - if they have ANY bad odor at all, I would toss them. If they seem fine, make sure you cook the very well just to be safe.
  5. They probably wouldnt do you any harm, although i wouldnt risk it. Throw them away!
  6. You should be fine as long as there's no strange smell or visible fungus. Plus, as long as you cook it all the way through you should be save. The "best-before" date is a suggestion really and I would use them up to 7 days past that date as long as there's no weird smell. EDIT: I was not joking.
  7. as long that they were in the fridge they are okay if they were bad your nose will be able to tell .
  8. pls dont eat expired ones
  9. Don't eat them, its not worth the risk of getting food poisoning.
  10. my name is nothing to do with cooking x
  11. Can I just say something? You are mad! What your cooking sounds good though, I'm getting hungry! Can you answer my Q. !!! http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AjbDOG79GHgNkDP6JGnqYhcgBgx.;_ylv=3?qid=20090302090818AA7JgQ8 pretty please!?
