Chook Me!

Is the dish "buffalo wings" really baby chicken wings?

Wikipedia says that buffalo wings is cut up pieces of chicken wings, but they look like baby chicken wings or underdeveloped chickens. Please give me information with references if possible

  1. Well all you have to do is get a chicken and compare the end parts of the wings to buffaloe wings and you will see they are big chickens not baby chickens, SO where did you hear this and do you believe everything you hear.
  2. Go to the grocery store and look at a whole chicken wing (your meat cutter can show you) you'll notice that the whole wing is shaped like a V...they take off the tip (pointed end) of the wing and call them Buffalo wings when prepared with spicey sauces. BABY CHICKENS??? Have you ever seen a baby chick? You have a computer and you can research all of this yourself ya know!
  3. Wikipedia is not an encyclopedia. The answers are submitted by anyone. Baby chickens are NOT used. They use grown chickens, but chickens don't fly much, so their wings are small for their size, and there are breeds of chickens that are smaller than our normal roasting chickens.
  4. Have you ever seen a baby chick? A buffalo wing is about the size of an entire chick, let alone it's wing. Chickens have very small wings, (hence the inability to fly) especially if the feathers are gone. Just go to your local grocery or butcher and look. It isn't baby chickens.
  5. .. Around here, "baby chicken wings" have been replaced by chicken drumettes that look like drumsticks. Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe they are turkey legs. .....
  6. NO THEY ARE ACTUALLY REGULAR SMALL CHICKEN PIECES. THE CHICKEN ARE FULL GROWN BUT THEY PUT SOME CHEMICALS IN THE CHICKES SO THEY WONT GROW TO THEIR REGULAR SIZE.
  7. Pleaseeee.....you can not be that stupid. It's from a full grown chicken.
  8. Why does it matter? It's still rotting animal flesh. This is what you get for actually bothering to read wikipedia, a site that is open to be edited in any manner, by any individual who choses to do so, at any time. It can never, NEVER, be counted on to be accurate.
  9. The wings are from full grown chickens. They are only the top part of the wing, called drumettes. They are cut off at what would be our elbow. The drumettes look like tiny drumsticks, and can also be stuffed, and are good as finger foods. but Since your question was only about them coming from baby chickens, maybe you are not really interested in that though. Just thought it worth a mention.... the "Buffalo"part comes from the sauce. I don't have any references for you, except to say that if you find a recipe for them it will most likely make mention of cutting the top part off the wing and using that, or it will mention drumettes.
  10. Everyone is saying it is full grown chicken. I thought it was from baby buffaloes. That's why buffaloes cannot fly anymore.
  11. And can cows fly?
  12. Buffalo wings are just chicken wings. Depending on what part of the country you are in they can be very small. Here is buffalo our wings are much larger than most other places.
